I suspect Maria might finish as high as Nr 2 if she intends to play enough tournaments (which is not a given with her). Most of Pushniacka's ranking points will come off in a span of 2-3 months, which will probbaly catapult her down the rankings. I have a sneaky feeling Vika will finish as YE Nr 1 somehow

Wozniacki is #1 in the race with five titles this year so far and AO SF. Unfortunately she is not coming down anytime soon.

Azarenka getting to #1 :haha: without even a slam sf? :haha: :haha:

Wozniacki will stay at #1,
Na and Maria will be somewhere between 2-3
Azarenka and Kvitova will finish in the top 5
Kim and Serena will float somewhere between 6-8
Venus and Vera might just sneak into the top 10.

Caroline won't finish this season lower than 2nd/3rd spot... Right now only Na Li has chance to take first spot from her. Unless Vera or Maria will have amazing next 5 month and take title in Wimbledon and US...

Li is the only player within 2000 points of Wozniacki in the race, so there might be a race if Li has a great 2nd half, which is possible.
But she hasnt shown consistency yet
Sharapova has a chance to be top 3 if she has a big 2nd half.

Li can do that because she only defend R1 points in USO... not very good results in USO series last year also...

Li could do it if she has an incredible and Wozniacki a terrible second half of the season. Not a likely scenario, but not completely impossible either. Sharapova could be #3 if she plays enough tournaments and stays healthy.

What's so funny here? Vika is a monster on hardcourts with her counterpunching/grinding from the baseline combination. If she stops self-destructing against Pushniacki in Premiers, she will gain most of the points in late summer/fall season.

Yes she does defend quite a bit, but do you really see her losing before semis/finals of hardcourt Premier events if she's healthy? She will go deep everywhere and win a fair share of them too - then it will be only the question mark how Pushniacki does in them too.

I don't but same thing goes for the Woz, as much as I want her to fail during HC season she won't.
The HC season will be between Maria, Woz and Vika IMO.

It all depends on Lobniacki's performance later this year, particularly from the USO on. I really don't see her renewing her points in Tokyo and Beijing, and I doubt she gets to the semis at the open again, when this year is already shaping up to be MUCH better than last. But then again, The Pusher seems to be the only one to really care about post-USO tournaments, so she may just collect those points.

I expect something like:
1- Wozniacki
2- Sharapova
3- Li
4- Azarenka
5- Kvitova

PS- I expect Clijsters to retire before the USO.

RetroDonkey
Jun 16th, 2011, 02:09 PM
Kvitova will definitely be top five... watch her win Eastbourne and go far in Wimdbledon to defend her SF points from last year. Have to think she'll be strong in NY, as well. Plus, she's already got a few nice titles in the bag from earlier this season.

I'd love to see Li Na as the world no. 1 at the end of the season, but Caroline just plays too many crap tourneys and wins them, claiming points here n there all the time. Think it might just be to tough for her.

both player made 3000pts this year. And basically 3200-3600pts is enough for a top10 spot. I don't know how could they drop out of top10 this year... maybe with long term injuries, still they only need couple hundred points.

Someone like Fran won around 2900pts already but at the end of the week she'll only be like #9 in the race.Players following her like Petko, Jelena, Peng, Stosur, Sveta etc...are not that far behind (between 500 and 1000pts).Woz, Na, Vika and Maria will most certainly make it and Kim, Marion, Vera and Petra have a good shot too but a lot of players still have a chance to take a spot in top10 by the end of the year.

I think people are overestimating the drop Vera will get if she doesn't get far in Wimbledon/US Open. Even if she went out R1 in both, she'd still be #6 at the moment, with around 5000 points, more than enough for Top 10.

If Serena doesnt get at very least Wimbledon SF, I think she's virtually out of Top 10 though, assuming she won't play that many tournaments over the Summer.

yes, but the #11 had only 3555 so theoretically speaking even 3600 could have been enough.
I think this year at some point Serena was in top10 with 3200pts(?), don't know.
Its fluctuating every time, but if a player earned almost 3000 in the first half of the season, its not that hard to gather another ~500-1000pts.
