The Black Swan star, 30, was said to be celebrating the birth of her first child with her French-born dancer fiancé Benjamin Millepied, a well known choreographer.

The couple, who met on set of the movie in which she won her Academy Award, have not released their son’s name.

People magazine (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20498509,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines), which broke the news, gave no details of where the baby was born or when. A publicist for Portman was unavailable for comment on Wednesday.
The Israeli-born, New York-raised actress, who celebrated her birthday last Thursday, announced in December that she was pregnant and planned to marry Millepied, 33, a well-regarded ballet dancer.
In Oscar acceptance speech in February, she paid tribute to "my beautiful love, Benjamin Millepied, who has now given me my most important role of my life."
She won in the best actress category for her performance as a delusional and a self-mutilating ballerina in Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller.
Portman, who has stuck by a strict vegetarian diet, also won a Bafta best actress award although she did not attend because she was heavily pregnant at the time.
Although the pair are known for being protective of their privacy, they recently made public their joy at the prospect of becoming first-time parents.
“I have always kept my private life private but I will say that I am indescribably happy and feel very grateful to have this experience," Portman said when announcing her pregnancy.
She also admitted she would likely make “lots of mistakes but I am open to learning”. Despite her success with Black Swan, she told an interviewer in January (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2011-06-14-natalie-portman-baby_n.htm)she would rather be at home.
“It's the most private of experiences, so I'd definitely rather be at home right now. But also, it's my job,” she said.
In another interview (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/43403391/ns/today-entertainment/) she later said: “My back is not feeling great right now, sitting for so long. But everything’s really great otherwise.”
She admitted she stuck to tradition when it came to babies’ births.
“I think it’s a Jewish thing to be kind of superstitious,” she said in April. “You don’t do any of the baby stuff before the baby arrives.”
in an interview a few weeks ago, Millepied was effusive about his impending fatherhood.
"I'm going to take a lot of time off to enjoy this new stage of life that I'm really looking forward to,” he said.
“It's the unknown and there's something so exciting when you know life one way and you can do all kinds of projects and exciting things, but this is going to be so different and new and I love that idea.”
Portman rose to fame playing the preteen protegee of a hitman in "The Professional," and appeared in the "Star Wars" reboots as Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia's mother.
Portman was most recently in theatres with the romantic comedy "No Strings Attached”, starring as a overworked doctor who attempts to undertake a “casual” relationship with a “friend”, played by Ashton Kutcher.

Natalie Portman has kept a low-profile since giving birth to a baby boy in early June. Though she and fiance Benjamin Millepied have yet to officially announce their son's name, reports from Israel claim the Oscar winner has named her firstborn Alef, after the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet. The name also represents the "oneness of God" and the element of air.

I saw Thor. Chris Hemsworth is so hot. I think I'm going to get the DVD but I didn't see Your Highness. I was just too busy and just missed it. Probably on DVD.

I didn't get it from Fox but I have it now. I hope they bring out special editions in the future.

Natalie's son is named now: Alef

It's the first letter of the Hebrew "Alefbeth". :)

New mum Natalie Portman has called her baby son Alef, according to Israeli news reports.
The Oscar-winning actress gave birth to fiance Benjamin Millepied's child last month and she has honoured her Jewish roots by naming the boy after the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, reports Israel Hayom (http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=76).
Babynames.com (http://www.babynames.com/name/ALEF) defines the ancient name's meaning as "Oneness with God".

An intensely private couple, Portman and Millepied have yet to confirm the birth of their son let alone his name but Portman has never made a secret of her love for her native Israel.
The Black Swan star was born Natalie Hershlag in Jerusalem. When Portman was three years old, her family relocated to the United States eventually settling in New York.
At the age of 13, the actress took her grandmother's maiden name as her stage name after winning her first starring film role in Luc Besson's The Professional.
Portman went on to earn wide fame as Padme Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
Earlier this year she won the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Darren Aronofsky's ballet drama Black Swan, the film that brought her and choreographer Millepied together.

If you don't know Hebrew, it's not really a weird celebrity name. I think it's nice.

I don't like the name at all... I know some Hebrew names from Bible but I don't know this one...

I think she could have named the boy "Daniel" which is my favorite ;)

Congrats to the family!

I heard, however, that he may be leaving her shortly after this. I do hope it's not true.
