But Britney's album sales becomes lesser the more her albums are released (the more recent her albums the lesser the debut sales number):p. What's the debut sales for Femme Fatale?:p

Didn't know Mimi's E=MC^2 has higher debut sales than TEOM.:spit:

The sales are lower these days, unless you do some special discounts to sell more like Taylor and Gaga did. 'Circus' sold 505k in it's opening week during the holidays, but it's very impressive because it didn't have any discounts.

I didn't know Underwood was that popular given the record of Idol winners' sales.

Well maybe that should become the new trend, sell your album cheaper, you'll sell more. Not like the artists make much money from album sales anyway, its mostly touring where they get their cash.

But then again, that's if you care enough about album sales.

Why is there a distincion made between female and male album sales?

I think sales was better back in the late 90's early 2000's because Illegal downloading wasn't as big or advanced then.

Funny how most of the best selling albums aren't necessarily the ones with biggest debuts. Unlike movies, most artist will take an album with good legs over one huge week of sales. But that doesn't make it any less amazing going platinum in just one week!

Some facts about this list:

- Britney Spears is the one with biggest number of albums (4 albums) followed by Alicia Keys with three albums.
- "Oops...I Did It Again" is the only album to sell 10 million.
- Only two albums released in the 90s.
- The oldest release is "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" released in September 1998.
- Madonna & Janet Jackson have only one album.
- Mary J. Blige have two albums in the top 10 both released in the second half of the 00s.
- Notable names (who were very active & successful in the last decade) missing from the list are Christina Aguliera, Kelly Clarckson & Pink.

Her biggest album debut is 305,000 with her last album "I Look to You".
"The Bodyguard" soundtrack sold one million in the first week but it doesn't count as her album since it was a soundtrack and with various artists.

No it didn't sell that many in its first week, it actually debuted at #2. It sold 1,000,000+ in like in its 14th week at #1 and was the first album ever to do that in the US...that has actually been recorded (although I wouldn't be surprised if the Beatles or Elvis did it back in the day). And Billboard, the Grammys, her label generally count it as her album and towards her sales. It's Soundscan that doesn't.

The reason why she, or none of her albums are there, is that most of her albums were pre-1998/9 and before the days where high 1st week sales were so significant. It was normal to have a debut somewhere in the top 10 and work your way up to #1. Of course she's has had many weeks throughout her career where she's sold 400,000+ albums.

Interestingly though, Whitney was the first female to ever have an album debut at #1 with "Whitney".

Thanks.
Yes you are right, it wasn't the first week.
I just checked and it only sold 144,500 in the first week.
It sold one million in 1992 Christmas week (6th week).

that's just the sales for the first week - wouldn't the overall sales be more interestinig?
