or 2006 when she crashed out of Rome to Safina?

Did they have an MRI machine in the church? How could they determine so fast that it'd be 4-6 weeks out?A sprained ankle usually gets healed in less time than than.

4 slams vs #1 ranking.,....hmmmm :oh:
I couldn't care less if she has 4 slams. She is a part-timer which is a terrible thing for a top 3 player. If she doesn't care enough to play full time, she should just retire. Better to be #1 without a slam who cares so much for the sport and who plays a lot than to have a part-time #2 who has a few slams but rarely plays because she doesn't care.

Just to answer some of the questions that have been raised here:

- The news release was issued by Golazo, which is Kim's management agency
- In Dutch, the word for "cousin" and "nephew" is the same ("neef"). Hence the confusion; we tend to use nephew when it should be cousin because the word is alike in Dutch. To be clear, we are talking about her cousin Tim who used to travel with her as her physical therapist.
- Either way, the injury is described as (and apologies if the English isn't 100% correct): "severe sprain of the right ankle with severe sprain of both the medial and lateral ligaments and a capsule tear in the ankle joint and adjacent tendon sheath." Clijsters' ankle is now completely immobilized and she is not allowed to put any weight on her foot for a few days.
- To the people who think she made this up just to get out of playing the French, don't you think she would have used a simpler excuse. Like she did when she said she couldn't play the China open because she had a mole removed on her foot.

More bad luck for Kim

Kim has injured her ankle. She won't be able to compete for four to six weeks. Her participation in the French Open is no longer certain.

At the wedding party of her cousin Tim, Kim injured her ankle severely. The consequences are rather dire. After a visit to the doctor, echo and NMR the diagnosis is a severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and a torn ligaments, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, a hematoma and torn tendon sheath.

Kim's ankle is now completely immobilised and she can not use her foot for a few days. Kim faces a recovery of at least four to six weeks. Since the French Open starts in literally six weeks, Kim's presence in Paris is very uncertain. In the meantime Kim has to continue working on her recovery of a shoulder and wrist injury.

Amazing how tennis players get so perilously injured with something as simple as a sprain or cut foot. What was she doing? Playing Novak Djokovic on ice??? Or is this medical diagnosis standard for an ankle sprain?

Seriously? Weird, I've sprained my ankle tonnes of times, and I'm fine after a few hours  Maybe the fact that you play tennis a lot for so long makes it easier to get injured with these sprains?

L'Enfant Sauvage
Apr 10th, 2011, 06:51 PM
I will say though, if somehow this IS a legit injury:

1) This is a warning, if you are a tennis player do NOT under any circumstance dance, be it at a bar, wedding or what have you.

2) Get well Kim. Let's just say, I'm not her #1 fan, but having a sprained ankle that kept me inactive for only a week was like hell, so I don't even want to imagine that times six(potentially)

this time i believe her. she already made an excuse for not playing, so she didn't need another one.

Agree. It is very unfortunate but the bizarre nature of the injury would have a somewhat comic element to it if it wasn't quite geniune as I suspect it is.

Clijsters attitude and commitment towards the tour has, since her return, often been questionable but at the same time she gets a lot more flak for this than than Serena Williams has gotten for the same thing over the years, and a lot of that flak has, quite hypocritically come from Serena Williams fans.

What is clear is that over the last 12 or so months there does appear to have been some kind of very unfortunate jinx on the big four of the last decade. We have already lost Justine for good, Serena has been out of action for almost a year with serious injuries and illness, and Kim and Venus have both suffered a myriad of injuries of varying severity.

The period when the big four were going to continue to dominate the game would have come to an end sometime between now and the next couple of years anyway but this is not the way one would have wanted it to end. I have to say, based on the last 12 months, I find it hard to believe we can expect much more tennis from any of the remaining three champion veterans, which is quite sad.

Clijsters attitude and commitment towards the tour has, since her return, often been questionable but at the same time she gets a lot more flak for this than than Serena Williams has gotten for the same thing over the years, and a lot of that flak has, quite hypocritically come from Serena Williams fans.

When is Serena not bashed, criticized or doubted for some action or statement she gives? Whatever Kim has received, from numerous fanbases cause your :bs: bias is showing, doesn't even come close to Serena's treatment her whole career and even in the past year. You drool over Serena and the big 3, 4 having their career come to a close, that's a given.

Actually no. I think it would be amazing if Serena could comeback and win another slam. Honestly, I'd be delighted for her. It would probably be the most amazing comeback in the women's tennis history and as such would be absolutely great for the sport. And considering everything she has gone through she would quite rightly have the support of virtually everyone who follows sports.

That said, I do not withdraw my point about a double standard I see in numerous posters on this forum with regards to criticism of Clijsters as a "parttime player"

Totally NID.

When at the end of last year/beginning of this one (can't remember exactly when; we were discussing the top players' scheduling) I dared suggest that Kimberley wouldn't play a single match on clay this year, I remember that Mr. Samuel and other Kimmytards reacted with OUTRAGE!!11!!

If Kimberley returns from yet another layoff to rampage through the US Open Series and then take the USO, then I'll be the first to admit that the WTA deserves all the abuse it gets. And then some.

I can't help but think this injury could have been prevented if Kim wasn't so nonchalant with her body. She knows she has fragile ligaments, but she doesn't take more precautions. It doesn't seem very wise to go dancing with a sore shoulder and wrist in the first place. History always repeats itself. Instead of learning from the past and being more careful, especially with a GS in sight...

BuTtErFrEnA
Apr 10th, 2011, 11:21 PM

I have to say, based on the last 12 months, I find it hard to believe we can expect much more tennis from any of the remaining three champion veterans, which is quite sad.

what? :spit: come on now....serena took so much heat for showing up and playing half assed and ruining her legacy  she was bad for the tour because she didn't support a tour that made her a superstar bla bla bla...how do you NOT recall that from 2008-2010 on this forum....even when the news of serena's injury broke and said she had surgery people STILL said she was faking it...

In the moment Miguel Seabra said "Breaking News" in today's final I knew it was about Kim :hysteric:

But please, let's deal with the facts: Kim has an injury that put her out for 4 weeks. And then she thought, "Hmmm, I don't wanna play RG as well. I'll fake an accident and I'll call my friend, who is a very good doctor, asking for a detailed and scary diagnosis. Unfortunatelly, I gotta stay at home with my windows closed so that journalists can't see me... Well, that's part of the deal. I'll also ask Brian to buy me a couple of crutches so I can still leave. And last but not least, I'm gonna teach Jada how to say at school that her mama (tennis superstar Kim Clijsters) is suffering a lot and that she have a severe strain of both the medial and lateral ligaments of the right ankle and a torn ligaments, a torn capsule of the ankle joint, a hematoma and torn tendon sheath. Yup, that's the perfect plan!".

Wouldn't have been much more easier for her to simply say that her shoulder was getting worse?
