I don't think Hantuchova had any GS semifinals points when she reached it many years ago.

Word. Wouldn't be surprised if there were a few more who made Top5 without GS Semis. Bottom line is they are only 4 tournaments a year, and you can be incredibly successful without winning/making the final/semi of them.

Poses the question if Chakvetadze is still the weakest top 5 player in the history of the WTA. Probably still so now that Azarenka has 2 Miami titles.

Well done.
I would have expected her to make it a bit sooner.
After shooting up the rankings she kinda stalled around #8, then falling a bit and then stalling around #8 again.
I'm glad to finally see her in the top 5. And there's great potential for more.

...and 4 titles. Stanford, Moscow, Miami, and Marbella.

I agree though. Vika needs to have a good slam result pretty soon here.

Also in her defense...

Australian Open- ran into red-hot Na Li.
French Open- had been injured for the entire clay season and still wasn't 100%.
Wimbledon- ran into red-hot Petra Kvitova.
US Open- had a concussion.

She's had some bad luck the last 4 slams. I think she will have success at least once before the end of this year (SF or better) and if she is still in this form at the French, she, Caroline and Jelena should be the favorites if Kim is out.

Very typical of a Wozniacki fan to say.

Very strange to see her record in majors

That said, she's really earned it with some impressive play.

It's between Chakvetadze, Hantuchova and Dokic.

Chakvetazde when she hit her peak is better than Victoria right now IMO. Not saying that she is a better player, but I haven't seen any outstanding level of play from Azarenka so far this season. (infact she seems to have struggled quite a lot in the early rounds)

She did well to defend Miami, but like I said...did nothing extroadinary to do it. (seems thats how you win tournaments these days though)
