Sania was hitting so many blitzing winners against Shuai. It's such a shame she ran out of gas mid way through the second set and the third she was hitting the amazing winner here and there but it was all Shuai's consistency that won her this. The final stats were 20/20 for Shuai and 31/35 for Sania in W/UE. Great week Sania!! :worship:

Reach the finals Golden Shu!! :cheer:

Well done Shushu.

Sania  she did play well through patches of the match, but then started getting a bit tentative - probably tired.

I agree, it showed. BUT she overcome those niggling injuries and the loss of the first set for a good win. :)

Sorry, Sania, though you played well in the first set. At least, 22 forehand winners. :worship:

Peng's movement was awkward to watch and she struggled to cope with Mirza's power at times. Mirza definitely got tired and tight and that allowed Shushu to get into the match and it was plain sailing from there.

Positive signs for Mirza though, I hope this tournament does a lot for her confidence.

So 20 winners in 24 games is a pusher, and 28 in 30 games is in some totally different league. Ok then.

I'm glad Sania once again gave a good account of herself. As things stand now I think she could very possibly be back on her way to the top 50 again something that didn't seem at all likely 6 months ago.

As for Shuai, what can one say? She has been, quite simply day in and day out the most remarkable player on the circuit this year. The consistency she has show this year is absolutely extraordinary.

Shuai has shown previously that she can play to the standard she has shown this year. That she can play at such a high level doesn't surprise me. But in truth there are many girls on the tour that can also play at that level. But playing amazing top notch tennis 3 or 4 times a year is one thing, what has made Shuai so amazing is that she has been able to bring her very best tennis to the table practically every match she has played this year, and that is very exceptional.

Shuai is not a big strong powerful girl who can just blast winners at will. She relies on her speed, anticipation, timing and accuracy of her shots to win her matches. To win matches she needs to work very hard. And yet virtually every match she has played this year she has been able to give her maxium effort. In terms of professionalism Shuai Peng is setting a standard other players can only try to emulate. Respect.

Having said that, Peng plays really well this year. :wavey:

Good match for about a set and a half if you're into baseline bashing.

Mirza played spectacularly for a while before fading away. She was still hitting the ball wonderfully early in the second set, but Peng served very well then and thus managed to keep herself ahead in the score even though she was still being overpowered in the rallies. And after a while Mirza stopped moving her feet, and was no longer able to go for her FH so recklessly.
