LOL the defending champion shown the door in a routine win by Vesnina :spit:

the 2011 clay season is going to be a big mess ... with JuJu retiring, the CLAY-GOAT Sam was supposed to dominate but :tape: and Schiavone is also battling an injury ... really anybody could win Roland Garros and it will probably be Princess Karolina :hearts:

Stosur is going down, a lot of people said she would be better on clay..... not happening, but there´s still red clay

Congrats, Lena.

Lena :hearts: Great job! That was really good match for her and probably her the best match in this year. Stosur played really bad, not like a clay GOAT, just like clay weakling :help: There were a lot of good hits, but she should do more.
Elena :yeah: Keep going! Now Goerges, you can do it!

Stosur is not going to magically get in form because its green clay.
Much more expectations this year.
Elena plays Julia for a spot in the semis vs Peng/(Mirza-lisicki) winner

Probably the worst match Sam has played since she came back from injury a couple years ago.

She honestly did nothing good, besides a couple of routine serve and forehand combinations. She was that desperate for guidance she even used on court coaching for the first time with David Taylor, which did nothing.

A lot of work to do Sam. Probably close to 20 in the world by the end of the year if she doesn't get it together.

Vesnona hit some nice shots when she was under (a tiny amount) of pressure. Good for her :)

Sad to see Sam playing so badly. She looked completely lost at times.

Credit to Vesnina for staying solid throughout the second set, she showed no sign of weakness/choking whatsoever. Probably one of the biggest wins in her career

No choke! :rocker:

Sam hit some great winners, only to be followed by 2-3 stupid errors.

Vesnina! Well done, great play.

I don't know what is up with Sammy--lost confidence I guess--but I'm not sure she'll go far at RG this year. You never know, of course. Just think of Rezai's great clay run and then drop off in 2010.

I'm just happy to see Vesnina play a steady, focused game.

Chaos Elena! No choke! :hearts:
So happy that you've finally got your game together! :yeah:

I can't say I'm surprised. Lena can play pretty good ball, especially if her opponent lacks confidence like Sam is right now. I was worried about Sam's form for the clay season based on her results this year as a whole, now I'm even more worried. If she can't turn it around on the red stuff, her ranking is going to completely collapse.

Apr 7th, 2011, 09:45 PM
Wow Elena, really did not expect this :D Great win, and good back-up result to Miami. Hope this is a good sign for her. Speaking of good signs, Stosur was TERRIBLE and I mean terrible, terrible with every seam of her body.

As for Elena, I LOVE the match-up vs. Goerges, may the better player win :D

One advice for Sam, next time try to fight at least, I can take defeat if player is interested and trying.

C. W. Fields
Apr 7th, 2011, 09:53 PM
Ok. I wasn't too worried about Sam earlier despite her poor play on HC. I was sure she'd raise her level on clay but no. Vesnina has had two close matches with Caro at PVB so I know she's a tricky opponent on green clay but I certainly didn't expect her to bash Sam like that, winnng 8 of the last 9 games.
Now I AM worried about Sam's clay season. I won't write her off completely as a RG contender before I see how she fares in Stuttgart but she better start pulling herself together soon!

Really, really pathetic.

It baffles me, how even on the clay, Stosur can lose these types of match and so easily with that kick serve and forehand of hers. Like...what?

If Sam can't take her responsibities and dominate a surface where competition is non-existent... where she also was 18-3 just back then 2010... better off just give the french trophey already to a designated Serbian, Belarusian or Siberian.

I didn't think Stosur could play any worse than she had done vs Martha in Miami, but she went out of her way to prove me wrong.

Sluggish, couldn't hit even a routine groundstroke to save her life, BH nonexistent, return game club player level.

For fuck sake, you call yourself a fan?

Stick to playgrounds I suggest.

She would probably do better with a lower ranking. But she just beat a top 100 player convincingly in the previous round. There's no reason why she should be ranked 400.

I cannot wait for RG to be over with so that Sam can start all over again.Being top 10 has brought Sam nothing but pressure and shoulder injuries. She needs to sort her head out and play without any more stress.Honey you've got to hang tough and keep a level head or people will call you a fluke:shrug:

makes me appreciate much more the fact that Amelie was in the top 10 for so many years:awww:

Time to watch this over.

Jokesur is still throwing in those same random, harmless slices that I criticized her for during the hardcourt swing. Started off with her perfunctory display of tennis, but unraveled due to her non-existent shot selection(surprise, surprise).

Vesnina played well for her standards, but I'll never back off from the opinion that her and Cornet are the two most useless players in the top 60.

As much as I would like to fully write Stosur off for the clay season, green clay is pretty irrelevant... Jury is still out until Stuttgart/Rome/Madrid for her.

Stosur coming back down to Earth. Before long she'll be out of the Top 10 where she belongs.
