Well done Dinara :yeah:

The Double Faults cost her at times, but good for her for winning in straights!

Tsveti was trying to be a pusher at times.Unfortunate pusher.

Well, I never liked Safina as she is the same bashing player with no thoughts at all during play.Worse was that Tsveti was having even less idea what to do on court.Great many opportunities there and she never took advantage of them.
It was pretty good watching Tsveti saving 3 setballs in a row at 0-40 in the first set and eventually getting the game.Hope there's something good on the horizon for her.

Second set should have been much easier, but still positive signs. Interesting match next against Vika.

Dammit. At this rate we may wish we had a DNR on Cara.

Dinara :)
Pironkova will be about 90th place after Wimbledon  She shouldn't be in top100.

How the great Venus Williams lost to this girl there is beyond human comprehension...

Sometimes Dinara puts together 3-4 points that make you go "ahh", that must be the reason she was the best claycourt player 2-3 years ago. Then she reminds you why she is still ranked around 80. Her defensive movement is just not what it was 2-3 years ago. If Dinara was still in the top 10, you´d say she played like she just couldn´t take Pironkova seriously. Don´t think Dinara stands much of a chance against Azarenka, but who did the last two weeks.

This Marbella is so not bella in terms of tennis, results, draw etc etc. Top 2 seeds are like the only hope there...

Never good for the sport when talented players like Pironkova are out of form facing these sorta... pseudo... parodies of the number one players... former... eh...:(

Dinara needs wins to build her confidence. Some pretty good players left in this field.

Dinara is probably slightly more comfortable on clay which makes it seems like she's playing better, but I wasn't really impressed. She still has time to pick up her groove on clay though.

Average performance by Dinara. Some great winners and some awful errors, but she's getting there.

Good luck in the quarters :D

Safina has shown real signs of progress and the ability to overcome self-created and opponent-created problems. She also is a little bit calmer with the self-deprecation, even if she might be overdoing the cries of Vamos/Davai/Forza/etc. Today she did more contained fist pumps than yesterday’s excess of Vamoses, etc. Also, she seemed to take a moment to reset herself and then just get on with it, even if she had just double-faulted. Of course, she had way too many DFs and she couldn’t serve it out initially, but she didn’t let herself down and have to play a third set. Pironkova had some nice returns and volleys, but overall she seemed weak against Safina. So…I think things are going well for Dinara, and the Silver Fox is doing well, too. Keep it up, Sanowa!

Her next match is probably Vika, so that will tell a lot.
I think Dinara still has a ways to go. But she is on the improve and the FO is still over a month away.

Some better signs off the ground from Safina. Had a bit more leverage and 'thud' off her groundstrokes, which was nice to see after her continual 'loop-fests' last year, where her moonball was seemingly her only conceivable stroke. Serve wasn't as messy as it usually is either, so she could garner some free-ish points off it. Her kick second serve is still a formidable ally on this surface when she times and places it well. Be interesting how that part of her game holds up.

Pironkova's form was just shocking to me. I didn't expect miracles of course, but she was just marooning herself at the back of the court, mis-timing forehands, hitting her backhand centrally. Just a nothing performance. Indicative of why she is where she is right now.

beating hopeless Tsveti in 2 :yeah:
game is not that bad, serve is okay-ish... besides DFs. but she can't defend shit, so slow. Of course its hard after a serious injury, hopefully she can improve this.
