They played at the 75k in Phoenix and Mel won in 3 so I knew there was a possibility of an upset. Ashley is playing THE BEST tennis of her career and Mel is in a slump. Best win of Ashley's career since she turned pro.

Ashley has been in very good form the past 6 months or so. Really surprised me when she started beating some tough ITF players. And then as Kevin pointed out, she nearly beat Oudin during the 75K in Phoenix on a hardcourt, so the fact this match was on clay just gave Ashley that extra bit more advantage IMO.

Well Jarmila Groth who is in good form and higher ranked lost in Australian 25K's late last year and people didn't make a huge deal of it. I guess Mel did not care much. Ashley is a tough opponent... at 25K level.
