Pretty confident Alex will win this. She is not as bad on hard as people seem to think. Sure she will lose on hard to most of the top 40 but against lower ranked players on hard she is pretty consistant. Johanna's record on outdoor hardcourts is actually substantially worse than Alex's.

I'm surprised that there hasn't been any poll yet, considering that a win would be one of the greatest things both players have ever achieved at a Hard Court Mandatory.

Johanna really slumped for the beginning of the year on hard, only showing up with a great semi at the clay event of Acapulco. So it seems even more surprising how she beat AO finalist Na Li in a 3h match after warding some match points off in the decisive tie break! :yeah:
She should be very self-confident and has really nothing to lose!

Speaking of slumps, Alex had (as always) a slow start into the season with just one win against Baltacha before this week. Nevertheless, she won surprisingly comfortable against Scheepers in round 2. An unexpected big result just before the start of the clay season should be enough motivation for her to show her best up! :)

Who will win it?

Hopefully Johanna, I think she´s really beautiful, she must win this, and also she had the bigger win of the two, must be feeling more confident

Hoping for Johanna too:p

This isn´t actually the worst draw for Johanna in Miami R3, she could take the chance:)

The spectators at Chokoroz liked and supported Johanna Jenny during her run there last year.

I cheer for La Jo-La but objectively Algheru is the favorite.

Alex, take your chance! :fiery:

Those WTA points would be so surprising and important! Not speaking of her self-confidence just before the clay season! :)

Still..Johanna´s game is more effective on hardcourts actually...there is a big difference between Johanna´s game on clay and her game on hardcourt, she is definitely more creative and agressive there IMO...I actually don´t like her watching on clay, she is too passive there (her performance against Voracova in Bastad was more than :tape:), but she was very impressive in Portoroz

But why did she have her best result this year on clay?

I'm curious to "see" (no live streams ) how Johanna will cope with Alex' game which is completely different from Li's. Looking at her activities, it is kind of surprising that she had very big problems with players on hard who don't give you much pace (only 3 games against LDL at AO or a straight loss to Errani in Monterrey :tape:).

So it seems that she tends to become too impatient. I just saw her one time on Hard, against Sori in Istanbul, where she was a very consistent player, but in the end lost because she didn't hold serve at 4-5 in both sets. To admit it was one of only a few decent matches from Sori last year.

We will see how it will end! :)

Like many other matches on Hard... :o

As a young player if you want to make progress you have to take this opportunity on a slower hardcourt.
