She's actually number 7 in the race to Istanbul..her results in 2011 have been really good. But last year she was injured (missed RG, Wimbledon and the hardcourt events leading up to US Open)..and then post US Open she had a slump and lost a lot of first rounds. But she's heading towards the top 20. :)
The only points she really has to defend the rest of the year are US Open third round, Charleston QF and Estoril SF!

No wonder Ivanovic never dropped too far down.

Kuz is beyond hope. Peng is a good player. I would like the see the KUZ get stung.

Peng sure gave Pova a run. But I doubt Sveta will get worn out after a set and a half.

Peng will have chances but Sveta will be too strong for her.

You made it sound like it's rigged, but it's simply the nature of being seeded in tournaments.

When you are seeded, you are guaranteed one or two rounds of wins (either bye or meeting lower ranked opponents). Shuai has been consistently competitive lately, but it's still early in the season. If she keeps up this form for a while, it's only a matter of time before her ranking starts reflecting it.

more importantly, i can't decide which nickname is more nauseatingly childish, "shushu" or "kuzzy":

Shu is #7 in Race ... Kuz is *8 in Race ... this is a tough draw for both of them
