:woohoo: Should have been easier, seeing as she has early leads in both sets, but Mel kept her nerve and closed it out! Good win!

Julia :o Really terrible. I though she would have a good year after her decent start to the year. Really some bad losses now, and this one seems to top everything, I mean who on earth is losing to Oudin nowadays :o

Good win for Mel, BL against Daniela :)

Yeah, losing to Melanie is tons worse than losing to Han, Medina Garrigues(who up until that point couldn't beat anyone besides useless WCs and low ranked scrubs) and Pervak that she has lost to recently.

I think it's time for me to rally every German female tennis player and have a pep talk with all of them. What in the world is going on with Sabine and now Georges. Something has to be done with all the German female tennis players. Georges can not stomach the pressure of playing tennis. This is just another sad day for German tennis fans.

Honestly, if I was Melanie and I read this place I would be scared for my life.

As a fan, I can agree that she is over-rated and that some of her comments and fistpumps are annoying, but she's just trying to make a living like all of you and some people are disgustingly hateful (and I use the word to its full extent).

She probably did and it messed with her, which would explain her slump recently.

Tennis Observer

Even though I support Julia I don’t feel miserable if she plays decent but her opponent (regardless of her ranking) wins the match because she played untouchable. Unfortunately for some weeks Julia vanished one of her weapons (first service) and made too many (horrible) UE’s that she loses matches.

Yesterday Julia only leads *10 and went down *25 after a short while. In opener Julia dropped half of her service games and half of her 30 service points (1st service: 47%), she was only able to convert two of her eight BPs and won only 22 of 47 return points, including seven DFs. To stay in the match, Julia recovered to three a piece but could not transform a BP to *43. Rest is history and Melanie’s comments ( http://www.wtatennis.com/news/20110322/oudin-moves-ahead-dokic-into-main-draw_2256076_2322346) were down-to-earth:
"Julia was missing a lot of balls at the beginning and I was just getting balls back; she started playing better and I got a little tight," Oudin said of the first set. "It was up and down a lot. She'd make errors then hit winners. I was pretty steady most of the match - I think we both could have played better."

Julia, I hope you can sort this mess out sooner than later! I see it that way: Without mountains, there are no valleys!

GL for your Doubles with Lisa tomorrow!

Josh.

Was it really bad?

From my perspective, it was.

It was a bad year for my faves, all taking it on the chin. Was hoping for better things for Julia, and she got ambushed by Oudin in her first match. It was on the Grandstand court, which is the second biggest one there, and it was packed with fans cheering for Melanie, and there was about one German couple and me pulling for Julia, and both of them were really error prone. It wasn't a very pretty match. Julia didn't serve well, I do remember that. I think she had problems with the wind. But basically, they both were making a ton of errors.

Melanie had lots of crowd support. Of course, that was still when people were were remembering her US Open exploits and hoping she would rekindle the magic.

This was the end of a nice little run for Mel that lasted a few matches. I remember, looking at the stats at the time, it seemed that she had figured something out on her serve — high percentages and, for her, a lot of points won. But then came the shoulder injury, perhaps from the service motion she was using, and it's all been down hill from there. You got to think that after so many losses, finally seeing her work paying off, and then having that injury ruin it… It must have been a lot to deal with.

Moodin, you are doing no favors to Melanie by continually bumping threads and posting things about her in GM. It sets her up to be ridiculed and attacked. Especially since the biggest thing that contributed to her problem was mental issues of not being able to deal with the hype/pressure and also all of the hate. I really don't understand what you're trying to accomplish, because you really do come across as mocking Melanie rather than supporting her. I'm not saying that's your intent, but that's definitely how it is received.

As for the shoulder injury, if it happened it wasn't very serious. Any taping was probably only precautionary. Mel played a full season.

As for this result, I think it shows that Melanie still had/has potential to be a top 50 player. The 2011 clay court season just utterly destroyed what little confidence she had, and she still hasn't gotten it back.

No the shoulder injury wasn't a huge, career threading thing, but it forced her to switch from a serve motion that was working to a motion that made holding serve more difficult. She went from 4 or 5 double faults a match before the serve change to 7 or more double faults a set for a time. So, yes a big blow to her confidence. Adding clay court season on top of that didn't help. It's not that the shoulder injury was terrible, it just happened at a very bad time, right when her game was gaining some momentum in the right direction.
