Good fight from Bojana from 6-1 3-0 down, served for the second set twice only to waste her opportunities :o

Monica :yeah:

Both players have a rather weak serve, but some of Jovanovski's stats are cringeworthy to say the least:

1st serve points won: 13/40 (33%) for the match, 1/12 (8%) in the 1st set :tape:
Break points saved: 1/9 :help:
Break points won: 5/18 (1/11 in the 1st set :o)

The thing people might not be aware of is Monica what did to Bojana, returning serve today, breaking 8 out of 10 times, was simply a continuation of how she was playing at Indian Wells. In that event, in her 1st three matches there, she played 26 return games and broke 18 times. Even against Marion Bartoli, who was playing pretty fine tennis last week, Monica was able to break her in 4 of Marion's 1st 8 service games before Marion was able to turn the match in her favour.

As things stand after today's victory, in Monica's last 5 matches she has played 49 return games. In those 49 games she has broken an incredible 31 times. So while it is true Bojana does not have the best of serves, you will not find many matches at all where she only wins 33% of her service points and loses 80% of her service games.

As at least one other poster has quite rightly pointed out, Monica herself does not possess one of the world's best serves. Far from it. So for Monica to win matches comfortably she needs to be able to break serve a lot. And that is exactly what she is doing. Simply if you are player who finds it a bit awkward to hold serve, Monica Niculescu, in her present form, is not someone you would want as your next opponent.

Niculescu would be the worst opponent when you're in a mini-slump. She also took Bartoli to three sets last week.

Her match against Jankovic should be interesting.

Not surprising nor a bad loss for Bojana.

Monica is in solid form and Bojana is in a bit of a sophomore slump.

I didn't pick Monica in FITD because I thought she had suffered some sort of injury. Either my memory is bad or she has recovered, which is good to see.

Congrats to Monica :yeah: and Bojana will have her chances.

Bojo :smash: I'll agree, Niculescu is a bitch to play if you're in a slump.

Keep winning Mon:)

Nice to see her playing with confidence, now keep the ranking where it is!

To be honest, I want to see that ranking keep climbing and the way Monica is playing right now I see no reason why it shouldn't. Monica has very few points during the clay season and I'm actually very optimistic that come Wimbledon Monica will be residing in the top 50, hopefully with a career high ranking. :)

I've said it before, I'll say it again. No doubt, Monica is not a particularly strong player but she is one of the smartest. I think the world of her, shes one of only a select group who can be a threat to every player on the tour.
