At least 2 solid and expected wins :)
Tricky first round though. With Kremer you never know, if she's on it's really no shame to lose to her even if Anna-Lena would be Top 80 again but if Kremer is off she can lose to almost anyone.
We'll see :)

Mar 23rd, 2011, 02:43 PM
well, positive thing is that she won it, and Kremer was for sure not an easy opponent for a 25k tournament!
ALG was more than one class better as soon as she played well, could have been 60 61 or similar, that really should give her confidence, although it still seems that she just is ballbashing, if it works, she is really tough to beat, but no plan b if it doesnt work! Another problem is that she is totally without confidence it seems, almost unbelieveable that she lost 2nd set and choked again in third set but as I said, I think she is unable to keep just the ball in and when she gets tight she probaby she just makes too many UEs...good that she didnt give up , she was fighting and she won, which should give her confident for the next matches, I expect her to reach the SF now, anything else can´t be satisfying....

IMO these are expectations without taking into account that Anna had to qualify and won a tough match against former WTA # 18 yesterday, gained too much weight last year and is not fit as she should be. If she is in the mood to make another come back, she has to work on her weaknesses (= weight, fitness) first.

^^ well, I won´t change my opinion!
It was just shameful today and there is no excuse for that pathetic result! That russian girl had some nice results at 10k events, really seems to be in good shape but she has to be beatable! What did AL here? 2 easy wins against more or less sucky opponents in qualifying and then one "good" win against former top player Anne Kremer, then she was obviously already too tired today....just annoying, that girl keeps talking about coming back to top 50 and the she is not even able to win such matches at a 25k tournament, not only that, she even embarrasses herself, looking at the players here who are in 2nd round, only defeats against Vögele or Domachowska would have been acceptable and such a defeat should show ALG once again that she is not on the right way and that there are too many wrong things (lack of fitness, mental weakness, wrong coach etc.) And yeah, she has to live with harsh comments and criticism as long as she continues in singles as such results can´t be satisfying for anyone..but as she isn´t willed at all to change sth , it might be better for ALG to make a cut and only move her lazy ass in doubles in future.....anyone else would change the coach after such horrible results or would retire but it seems like ALG is still totally satisfied with it all..whatever, former RG juniors champion, juniors No.1 and WTA No.14 doesn´t find enough motivation obviously to work harder in training and make some big chances..pretty sad actually!

mk27
Mar 24th, 2011, 12:16 PM
It's pretty clear now that ALG won't be in the qualifying for the French Open. She still needs at least 70 points and has only 4 weeks left.
Qualifying in Monzon won't be easy and for 3 wins in the qualifying, she would only get 6 points.

Maybe ALG should play some 10k tournaments like Zell am Harmersbach in Germany at the end of April.

IMO not a big surprise, IMO.

ALG had to play four matches in last seven days (one of them was an alomst three hours long battle) to earn nine points. Then Anna arrived after an exhausting trip (http://twitter.com/Annagroenefeld/status/51341195795898368) yesterday evening in Monzon (Mona Barthel who holds a MD spot trained since Thursday there).

After her loss in Q1 today, Anna has serveral options:

To play Doubles in Monzon
To travel to Marbella in the hope to recieve a Q-WC because she is present and/or playing Doubles there.
To travel home to take a well deserved break and preparing for Fed-Cup.

this.

she's turning 26 this year, I'm afraid it's a little too late to make a big change and start with a new coach, she's all messed up as a player and Dier probably is holding her hand and telling her everything will somehow turn around and she will be top50 soon
Wimbledon'10 was most certainly her last GS singles MD

I don't wanna bring up that issue here, but I do it.

Greta Arn changed her coach at age 30 when she was outside the Top200.

In the next rankings, she'll break into the Top50 as it seems.

So it's never too late.

To travel home to take a well deserved break and preparing for Fed-Cup):

Davodus

So she got picked in the FC team...she's lucky her and Julia made a good doubles pairing for a while last year, and she still had good doubles results this year, or she probably wouldn't have been. Hopefully Germany can win, but that'll depend on which team the USA sends

:sobbing: I am actually pretty shocked she has made a final...does this mean she can enter Chiasso on the SE or not because she withdrew?

But anyway, it's more points, and if she can manage to scrape another win in the final I think she'd feel pretty good about her week...it's all about confidence with her, so the more she wins the better she will (hopefully) get. Hopefully she gets this title :p

She withdrew, so she can't play there and also won't get a SE.
With this final, she should be at #225/226 in the rankings.

Good tournament for ALG, first title since 2008 , "only" was a 25k , but it was really important for her confidence, I hope that she continues like that, her fitness is not the best but with her power she should be able to beat most of the players on that level, would be great if she could make it into Wimbledon Q-Draw, we´ll see :)

Three great results in quali here, no chance for Floris as well, didn´t won one service game :tape:
ALG´s serve in 1st set was great as well, 2nd set was a bit weaker it seems, but that is a big problem of her anyway, too many up´s and downs in her matches, but that wasn´t a big problem against Floris today at least!

Think this match is a good indicator for groenefeld to see what she's still missing! i predict a 46 06, don't think that andy will give everything when it is not necessary!

Petkovic def. ALG 6/3 6/1

no trashing but not really a good match, serve is not as strong as it used to be, movement is pretty terrible and just too many unforced errors, some nice winners here and there but that´s definitely not enough to annoy top 20 players, although Petkovic really didn´t play great as well today!

She still needs to work on her fitness, in that kind of shape she can win smaller challengers and might qualify for GSs with a good draw but definitely not more, but that was clear before...

She didn't play quite as bad as I expected...she actually had about 5093809850983 chances to win games that she lost...she just could never win the game points or deuce points, which is mainly mental. But her movement was bad. And she mainly just spun her serve in, and she was doing good kick serves to the AD court, but bad serves to the deuce court. But anyway, I think it was closer than 6-3 6-1...she probably couldve won if she had got one of the other Q spots (Not Hradecka, but the other 2 wouldve been good).

It wasn't totally bad, but by far not good enough to trouble any top 50 player. Her serve was average (and she had one of the best serves on tour!), her groundstrokes were OK but far from penetrating, and her movement was as bad as always...

LightsOut!

ALG will be at #202 on next Monday, should be high enough for the Wimbledon qualifying (Qualifying Cut-Off is on Monday) :)

While watching the match I was worried about her (non-existing) fitness. Petkovic just had to wrongfoot (sagt man das so? ^^) her and she won the point. In longer rallies ALG had almost no chance at all.

Yes I agree...when the rally went beyond 4-5 shots you knew ALG was unlikely to win it. She moves ok once she is running side to side, but she is so slow to actually take off so as soon as she is out of position, she doesn't get there. Also, she is throwing the ball way too far behind her head on her serve, which is why it isn't powerful. But I watched her doubles yesterday, and she moved better and hit her serve better in that...she basically won every single game for the team in the 2nd set, Cornet was horrible. She needs to transfer the doubles confidence to singles.

I think the match with Petkovic says a lot about her fitness and confidence. She trashed those girls in qualifying, then got trashed by Petkovic. Clearly she's not at that level yet, and she knows it.
