(15)Marion Bartoli (FRA) v Bye
Anastasia Rodionova (AUS) v Qualifier
Kristina Barrois (GER) v Lucie Safarova (CZE)
(21)Andrea Petkovic (GER) v Bye

Tough draw with Safarova :(

H2H is 1-1, but Andrea won the latest one (Beijing 2010).
Safarova also coming pretty much straight from Kuala Lumpur. Hopefully she's tired...
Just trying to think positively here.
Possible rematch from Brisbane w/ Bartoli, and if we dare think ahead, Clijsters in the Quarters.

Michael!

Safarova is always a tough opponent but you never know what to expect, as she has no consistency, in QF Clijsters would wait, so that is the maximum for Andrea here, I guess, good luck :)

Someone in the Middle East thread wrote that if Andrea makes it to Quarters she can reach Top 20, so on the bright side that's a good short-term goal to have, and very possible.
Also Andrea hit w/ Steffi the other day, that's gotta be good for her confidence.

not a easy draw
hope she can win at least the match vs. Safarova/Barrois

Edit: but hey, she's only defending first round points right? So at least she's getting add'l points in comparison to last year already?

It seems she rarely has any luck with draws, so I don't care about them too much.
Just don't lose in the first match, then I'll be fine with it.

sucky draw in my opinion

But she should be fit and well prepared again so it will be a good challenge :)

no, after bye in 1st round a second round loose would count like a 1st round loose.
so she need to win her 2nd round match to add points to her ranking

Would've been nice to have an easier opponent in the first match after the break. But she has to beat players like Safarova and Bartoli anyway if she wants to make it into Top 20. Also being without the pressure of defending points won't hurt.

Good chance at a R4. Safarova is still very inconsistent and Marion was sick last week and she hates the court here, doesnt suit her at all.

Looks like it was a tough, close match. Good news: Andrea held serve for the entire match. She was only able to break Lucie's serve once though, which is what gave her the edge in the 2nd set. Too bad it wasn't streamed, it would've been a great match to see live.

Petko lost first set 4-6
seems to be a intensiv match

but Petko with big trouble on 2nd serve, just 3/13 points won so far =23%
i know Bartoli is good on return, but 23% is far to less

Not a shame to lose against a player like Bartoli, maybe a bit too clear, one of Andrea´s problems is her serve, it is often not effective enough if she plays good return players, 50% won on 1st serve and only 19% won on 2nd serve is just not enough!
But 3rd round here was OK, we´ll see what she can do in Miami!

CillyUltra
Mar 13th, 2011, 08:40 PM
The fading of her service game definitely wasn't completely caused by Bartoli.

Hoping for a better draw and some more wins in Miami now :)

Hopefully Miami in about a week and a half. Not sure if that will get TV coverage though, or if it's the same deal as what's happening with Indian Wells.

But at least she picked up some additional points, compared to her first round exit last year.

If you are talking about her opening opponent, I see your point. However, Andrea won against Lucie Safarova.

If Miami’s seedings are based on rankings as of March 21 (http://www.sonyericssonopen.com/Players/Player-Landing.aspx), Andrea spot is not established right now but more likely 21 (looks like Serena Williams is only Top 32 player who don’t play) :

22 Andrea Petkovic 2.365
23 Aravane Rezai 2.280 (R3 against Maria Sharapova)
24 Yanina Wickmayer 2.235 (R4 against Dominika Cibulkova)
25 Maria Kirilenko 2.140 (R3 against Agnieszka Radwanska)

As a low tier seed within 17 to 24, her opponent in R3 will be 9 to 16. In Indian Wells, Andrea was seeded at 21 and Marion Bartoli at 15. Marion who was sidelined by Andrea in Brisbane 46 26, lost in Kuala Lumpur to Lucie Safarova 16 46. As ¾ of this unscientific poll ( http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?t=430775), I was confident that Andrea will advance, however she failed. IMO this time Marion had the edge and Andrea’s R3 draw was in her favor!
