View Full Version : Venus Williams: Reinventing herself??

jrollaneres25
Jan 18th, 2011, 03:42 AM
The now frequent fist pumps, the ongoing illusion-style dresses, and from what I saw in her first round against Sara Errani even has gotten sassy and very girly much like her sister.;)

So is Venus Williams reinventing herself at the tender age of 30?

But I like her new insideout forehand.

As for outfits. I think it is time to go back to her classic dresses.
At her age now, it makes more sense than the skin showing stuff she has been favoring the last couple of years.

Now she has this exposure would be a golden opportunity to use the free publicity and sell

OK. Now Gurl you need to watch your mouth or else you'll get hurt. You need to deal with the fact Uranus ain't shit compared to Serena and whatever Venus does, Serena does it with swag and of course better. So keep it cute.

Her forehand looked good in her 1st round. Granted it was against a hack with no power but it was still impressive. I think that shot is the biggest key to her doing well or not. If her forehand is consistent there arent many women who can beat her. If it breaks down she is vurnerable to bad losses.

I am sorry, this time around, the dress she is wearing for the shape she is in does not do her any good. It actually takes away from her classy and classic look she has built over the years.

I would hate for her to leave this image as her legacy, especially if she is going to be serious about taking her clothing company to a higher level.

She should start building her image as a businesswoman for post-tennis career.

Slutty dresses are making more noise than the outfits she came with when she started Eleven
Sure she lost some of the class she had on court but she gain sexyness. It's not always in good taste but saying she's too old at 30 to wear sexy stuff is just stupid (and unlike Serena who'd look ridiculous if she had to wear her old catsuit with the body she has now, Venus has the body to wear what she wants to).

She's really not doing herself any favours with these outfits. Not saying she needs to be utterly boring, because that wouldn't do her any good either, but even some of her more adventurous Eleven dresses were quite classy up until 2010.

Venus is building her image as a businesswoman for her post tennis career because according to Venus she was doing a lot more hand's on business stuff during her time off. Venus is also pursuing another college degree and learning multiple languages.

Also I believe her clothing company has helped her land a few endorsements, Tide endorsed Venus and let her wear her designs in their ads and they even had a design competition for her. EA sports let Venus wear her fireworks dress in their ads and Ralph Lauren partnered with Eleven last summer. She also partnered up with gilt.com. That's 4 new endorsements in one year. I don't think being risque is the problem, it's wearing horrible clothes. I am sure Venus never wanted to be compared to a cornish pasty, but that is what the Sunday Mirror called her outfit. If she wants to go the Liz Hurley safety pins dress route, good luck to her, but this is more out of the Helena Bonham-Carter wardrobe. :tape:

Figuring out any celeb's marketability is an inexact science.

But Nielsen's annual State of the Media report for 2010, released Monday, offers what it dubs "the most comprehensive" projection of various athletes endorsement potential through so-called N-Scores that measure name recognition, favoribility and "46 specific personal attributes."

And the winners are: Fox's Terry Bradshaw is the highest-scoring TV announcer. Shaun White ranks highest among active male athletes while Venus Williams is the top female athlete. Among NBA players, Shaquille O'Neal ranks first while Dale Earnhardt Jr. tops NASCAR drivers. Predictably, Tiger Woods' N-Score has plummeted, but it's not as if another PGA Tour star stepped up to fill that vacuum -- Arnold Palmer, at 81, had 2010's highest N-Score for any golfer, active or retired.

Interesting that she is the only top player without a clothes sponsor yet like it or not her dresses have gotten more ink and discussion in the media than even the best tennis matches played to date. Venus has obviously made the transition from being a great tennis player to a shrewd business woman. She is using the court as an opportunity to test her designs therefore some "misses" are expected and I'm sure she will learn and gain from each experience for the future. Go Venus, you are your own woman!:worship:
