ALLEZ!!

Yanina played really well apart from a fairly passive second set.

Very enjoyable match, both players firing at different times, Groth took some time to get going but in the end the better player won.

As much as she is hated on here, there is no denying Wickmayer is a very good player. I think she's going to be around for a while, so people better get used to it.

Bad luck Jarka, but the better player won on the day.

She REALLY is. Her serve and backhand are top 10 material. Shame she has an awful personality.

Jarmila really needs to work on her errors. So often she has a chance to win and just turns into an error making machine. When she is playing players like Wickmayer the errors hurt her even more.

Congrats Wickmayer.

I'm not a fan of hers either, but I really admire the way she competes. So intense and such positive body language. Other young players could learn a thing or two from players like this.

Hahaha how can someone say she is an awful personality without knowing her personally. Get a life..

The better player won. Jarka will always be up and down, she might have one or two good years ahead, but Wickmayer will consistently be a top player like Wozniacki.

I applaud her technique. But the U/E and winners speak for themselves. This was Jarmila's to win/lose.

As for other young tennis players, I would say there are better players that can be learnt from. I really didn't see much from Yanina after the first set.

One of the better first round matches. Both players were evenly matched, but Groth simply made too many errors, especially at key moments. Yanina kept her cool (and has clearly been working on her serve) and won it fair and square. Groth deserved to advance more than some other players currently in round two, but that's the draw for you.

YAY well done on the win Wicki. Im so warming to this girl. I love her game and her intensity. She reminds me so much of Masha. I love her bitchy/cold attitude of court as well. Give me that over they annoying sunshine/girl next door types anyday. I really done get why so many people dont like her.

She will be my backup fave if (or when, to be more precise at her current level) Caro chokes herself out of AO.

Also, I don't really get why Lisicki has an almost saint-like reception here while Yanina is hated in almost Caro'esque dimensions.
Yanina's game is much more intelligent than an injury free Lisicki.

Every time Wickmayer screamed "COME ON!" dogs started howling far and wide.

Do not get me wrong, she was very good today. But between her annoying presence on the court, the comments the Australian commentators made every ten seconds about how her father should get "Father of the Decade" ( :smash: ) and my growing like of Jarmila, I really wanted her to lose.

Jarka, it's OK.

I'm out of the loop with tennis (the loop is floating around somewhere I think ;) ) so I'm not really sure of the Wickmayer history, but well done to her on the win.

Groth has a lot of weapons. Not just her serve. Her forehand is big her backhand down the line is good, that underspin forehand dropshot is good.
But against steady players, she's in trouble.

I really love both and it's a great win for Yanina, but I would have loved to see Jarka winning this night session on centre court  Hope this won't affect her confidence too much, too bad she had to draw Yanina after 2 good pre-AO Tournaments.

As for Yanina, she showed once again like in her match vs. Peng and in many other matches that she is just the player who wants it more. People may call her cold, but I call her a good competitor. The same attitude which brought Sharapova to her success. Of course Yanina won't have a career like Masha, but this is just better as a tennis player than the lovely girl Daniela who can't show some determination on the court.

I mean were talking about Tennis players, not our best buddies and Yanina just is a great competitor.

Just caught the highlights-it's quite unfortunate Groth had to draw a tough opponent in the first round. She was in good form and I'd rather see her in the second round than some of the weaker players who got better draws :o
