first of all I would like to say Maria didn´t play badly but Iveta was easily much better and outplayed her... they had almost the same number of winners and unforced erros... Iveta scored 7 or 8 aces I think Maria didn´t any.... like I said Iveta was much better she did know what to play on Maria and Maria didn´t know what to do.. Iveta´s serve, forehand and backhand all were dangerous a lot... she could hold her serve, she broke Maria´s serve there were a lot of deuces but Iveta won almost all of them... it was the main difference between both players but Iveta absolutely deserved the win and big credit to her for her great performance.. she seems to be in a good shape so I hope she will beat Nastya...

the worst what we were scared of happened... Maria will lose a lot of points I think 400 points and she´ll be lucky if she keeps her position inside the top 32 and is seeded at Indian Wells and Miami... and she has still a lot of points to defend ahead of her... last season was her best one she was in a very good form and we waited she can go higher this season and she still can but it will be much tougher than last year... we´ll see I hope this early exit doesn´t mean anything bad for Maria because fault is in her self and she´s fit so I am looking forward to her next match... there´s no reason why to fall the rankings down...

I can see I´m a bad luck for Maria she lose when I am watching.. bad record for me.. :(

Maria wasn't100%, and that showed. She has to win matches now, to get her ranking up again. Iveta played out of her mind displaying a form of a life-time, so i'm not to worried, plus there's also doubs and mixed.I have a little feeling about this......Maria can concentrate on her doubles wich didn't happen last year, and hopefully rest a little bit too, so tha tshe can come back and win some matches:cheer:

Was at the match yesterday.. and the one against Oprandi. Def not playing like she is capable of. Started well against Oprandi but started to struggle with serving in the 2nd. was hitting puff ball serves. Spoke to the trainer, took some medicine and had her legs rubbed a few times. Against Benesova she was just bad.. Benesova played a great match, really wasn't expecting that from her but she was helped a lot by Kiri. Maria isn't hitting the ball with much power or depth. Hopefully it's not going to reflect her year. Great match in doubles though, Azarenka didn't play that great but still they only dropped 1 game. Hopefully Vika is gonna take it serious.. cause then I can see them going far. Took lots of pics anyways :p

Even spoke to her parents! said sorry about the loss and wished Maria a good year. They said they would pass it on. :D

jimmy_the_greek

I also wish Maria's singles game was good enough where she didn't want to play all 3 events at the grand slams. That's too tiring for the slight of might Maria because if she makes the second week of a grand slam in singles she will be tired and that's what happened to Makiri last year on Oz.

The final in doubles will be against Dulko/Pennetta, it will be a tough match. On mixed, their most difficult match will be the 1/2 final, the final should be easier, they have a great chance to win the tournament:)

Nikkiri
Jan 26th, 2011, 10:15 AM
It's gonna depend a lot of Vika. Kiri is a pretty reliable player, safe, good volleys but Vika is streaky. I really hope they can win as I see Dulko and Pennetta having a lot more chances at a slam but with Kiri and Vika if they continue playing together it's always gonna come down to how much Vika cares.

VIKA?

She speaks Russian, I think most of the Belarussians know it ( or I daresay all of them), Russian is the official language in Belarus. I've never been there but I have plenty of friends from Belarus and they speak only Russian. And the language is very similar to Russian.
She simply forgot a word, that happens even to me  That's why they were laughing
That was like
Vika: last year I started playing with Maria and I liked it cause our team has such a congenial... uuumm... congenial... yeah, congenial
The reporter: congenial what?

Maria: congenial atmosphere
Vika: Yes, thank you. Congenial atmosphere. We always invigorate each other.

The lose a grand slam doubles final the way Kirilenko and Azarenka did in Oz 2011 is horrible. :fiery: But they have only themselves to blame being up a set and 4-1. :o  I don't know how they can ever recover from this as a team because that was a major meltdown and no showing in the third set only made it worse. :(

On a side note is there a Russian or Belarusian female tennis player with a good serve and strong mental toughness? I can't think of one. All of them meltdown in tough spots in matches and their poor serving hurts their games so much. :banghead:

It's just nice that even though she failed to defend her QF points we can still take some positives from this AO.

Sven was blogging during the open and had a few things to say about Maria:

Tonight we had a wonderful, farewell dinner, together with Maria Kirilenko, Caroline Wozniacki and both of their parents plus some local friends!

I will not see them until Indian Wells as both of them are leaving tomorrow!

Today was the day of which the wheelchair competition started but before I continue I want to congratulate Maria Kirilenko (part of our team) for reaching the finals of the women’s doubles here in Australia and it was her birthday yesterday! She also won her mixed doubles match and is into the semis!

After the hit with Esther Vergeer (who had another interview before her practice- they show great interest here in Australia) Maria Kirilenko had a warm-up for her doubles! I always enjoy spending time with Maria she has a great sense of humor and told me she is more relaxed now (she had to defend her quarter final from last year but felt too much pressure this week) now she is in both doubles and mixed and I would not be surprised that she will have a great run!
