Curcubeu
Mar 10th, 2011, 02:14 PM
I haven't heard anything about an injury, but I know that she is a real clay specialist indeed and maybe waits for the first 25k ITFs on this surface in Europe. Last year she had also a break at that time to prepare for the bigger clay events. ;)

She has almost nothing to defend up to April, so this isn't a bad decision, I think...

Yeah, I think you have hit it on the nail. Even by normal Romanian standards, looking at Cadantu's career record, she really is an ultra-clay specialist. In her entire career of approxamately 90 events she has played only 6 events not on clay. So I suppose she will be back playing again once we start getting some more 25ks on clay.

My report:
Cadantu-Evtimova:
This “Battle of the Balkans” quickly turned into a loud screamfest. Both girls had very loud grunts. Evtimova is basically a brainless ballbasher and Cadantu is one of those clay court moonballers, except she had a really strong backhand and played very aggressive from that side. I saw most of the third set. It was really competitive and there were some nice rallies in this match. Dia would say “Haide” after every point she won, even UEs (see, I told you guys Georgatou wasn’t the only one). Evtimova sort of looks like Benesova and Cadantu looks like Jovanovski from far away but when you get closer she looks sort of like a mix between Jovanovski and Liezel Huber . It was sort of a sloppy match but basically it was just a lot of long rallies usually ending in UEs. But it was very entertaining and exciting :yeah:

Set 2:
A mixture between holding and being broken to 0 with Alex finally serving for the match at 6-5, DFing twice (probably on underarm :oh:) and broken to love. Then, a MTO, probably from Alex to get some time and break Mona's rhythm.
Mona hold to 0, though and i expected the worse... :o

A great report about our new vicious queen published in prosport.ro

Alexandra Cadantu will become Romania's woman #6 in the WTA top 100 next week. The girl from Bucharest lost yesterday in the knockout tournament in Luxembourg, 3-6, 4-6 to Lucie Hradecka, but that performance ensures, among other things, her overtaking the famous Venus Williams in the global hierarchy. (Prosport :hysteric:)

Being ranked #104 in WTA earlier this week, Alexandra Cadantu earned her spot in the Luxembourg main draw, after three wins in qualifying. The series then continued with success against Anastasia Yakimova (Belarus), perhaps the most important of her career so far. The reason? The victory propelled her Cadantu among the best 100 players in the world, a novelty for the 21-year old youngster. "It's a very huge achievement for Alexandra, from three years ago to reach this dream. She basically started from nothing and became ended up in the Top hundred. A year and a half ago she was ranked around 700 in the world and played the $ 10,000 tournament at the Dinu Pescariu. Only a few players in the world made such a progress in that time, "told us coach Alexandra's coach Bogdan Popovici.

Azarenka style (*dead*)

The rise of Romanian woman has an explanation. "In the past two years, when we started working together, Alexandra underwent a major transformation, both in game and in mentality. Her defensive game turned into an aggressive, very powerful one. Then she steadily built up on this which could be seen in the results, "says Bogdan Popovici, who compares her to Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) in style of play. "She is even more aggressive than the ideology of the game," continued her coach.

Top 50 Next Level

According to the latest results, Alexandra Cadantu has opened new perspectives for 2012. At first she will have access to the main boards of several WTA tournaments, including the Grand Slams. Thus, the Australian Open in January 2012 will become her first appearamce on the main board of such a big event. And by finally entering the the world's first hundred the player demands further increase. "All players who get as far say that they would like to climb into the Top 50. It's great, If we could achieve this goal. I think that is a realistic goal," concluded Bogdan Popovici

Alexandra's strengths are nimblicity and resistance. She is in great physical shape. She has improved her power by superior training, "Alex Rusu, physical Coach of Alexandra Cadantu

Life is life, only with tennis! She is Alexandra Cadantu, the tennis player who climbed 600 places in the WTA rankings within two years!

Alexandra Cadantu is an example of an athlet with guts, who has sacrifed her entire childhood, who has wept and enjoyed throughout a winding road with ups and downs. Since 2009, the player, we just watches, has made an incredible achievement in that time span: Climbing up 600 places into WTA Top 100, more specifically up to #98, in the latest ranking released Monday. Modest and down to earth and with a well-defined plan for the future, Alexandra Cadantu explained to ProSport how she managed to break into the exclusive world as the first hundred of the WTA world.

When you have a look at the current WTA ranking and realize that you belong to the first hundred in the world. What feeling do you have?
A feeling of satisfaction. Firstly because it is a goal I achieved. Since I started playing professionally, I wanted to reach the first hundred of the world. At 16 I wrote on a piece of paper that I want to get to this point and put it on the wall. And now I have this desire fulfilled.

You entered the Top 100 at the age of 21 years. It's the result at the right time or could it have been sooner?
I think it could be sooner, but it's good it happened now. At 18 I was on the verge of giving up on tennis and I applied for a university in the United States. I didn't have the financial possibilities to play bigger tournaments, to go abroad, that was what happened at that time. My luck came after I won a $ 10,000 tournament at Dinu Pescariu, then I found a sponsor which supported me.

Thank you sponsor!

When have you taken the first step on a tennis court?
Immediately when I left hospital after I was born, I was on the tennis court (no - laugh!). My dad played tennis for pleasure, he is a fan of this sport, and he also took me to court. At the age of four years I started with a racket in my hand.

Do I understand correctly that you jumped over your childhood?
No, I was in kindergarten. I don'tt know how it is to play with children, like to go out. It is true that I lost my childhood, but now I feel fulfilled. I do what I hat to do and the results began to appear.

To be continued...

She would like a match against Sharapova.

The Romanian public knows very little of you at this time. What are your strengths at the moment, your favorite shots?
Will, the desire to win and my mental strength. My favorite shots are my "forehand" and cross.

And the one on which you should work?
My service needs to be fixed. I have to work on that and on my physical conditions!

There are so many young players rising in Romania. Is there a competition between you?
It is the desire of each of us to climb higher, but not to compete directly. It is important to have as many top players in the world, and the higher ranked ones can help the ones behind them to rise.

What would be if, for example, you have to play against Maria Sharapova?
It would be very nice, I really would like to play against her. Now it's not important against who I play, but to reach the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. The Australian Open will be the first one in this case.

It only remains time for one film.

Who is your favorite player?
I very much liked Justine Henin. And she had many problems, but still came to the top.

To be continued. :)

Judging from the sources I found, yes! :speakles:

Curcubeu
Oct 30th, 2011, 07:56 PM
Do your parents attend your matches?
For a year and a half, since then it became harder for them. But at home, my father does not miss any match. (No - the quetion was also directed to her coach Bogdan Popovici who has joined). "Mr. Cadantu doesn't stay with Alexandra at all tournaments, but he is watching them from morning until evening on the internet. He is very passionate about tennis."
*Bogdan is giving me so much life again* :sobbing:

There are players who prefer that their parents don't attend the matches to create no extra pressure. How is it in your case?
(laughing!) I have no pressure when my parents are in the stands (now - Bogdan Popovici takes over). "Alexandra's father is a charismatic character, a very lively and very involved parent."

What is your most beautiful memory so far?
I would say the main draw match I won against Yakimova in the first round of Luxembourg, but I think that the match in the last round of qualifications against Barthel will stay most memorable.

What do you propose for 2012?
First I have to work more, because I would have to face stronger opponents. Now that I have entered the Top 100, I set my next goal to reach Top 50.

Does tennis preoccupy you all the time or do you have other hobbies?
I have no time for everything. In tournaments, when I'm traveling, I can just watch one film.

5 hours per day is Alexandra Cadantu training, her program consists out of three training sessions: two on the tennis court and one in the gym

14,880 dollars is the biggest prize won by Alexandra Cadantu at a tennis tournament. This was achieved after winning the ITF final played at Biella (Italy) in September

Agree. While the top 5 Romanians all grew up clay, and clay remains the best surface for all of them, aside of course from Monica, with Alex D, Sorana, Simona and Irina there is no question there is the feeling that they will all develop into players that can be effective on all surfaces during their careers. Monica and Sorana already are pretty decent players whatever the surface and Alex is getting there too. Irina is has further to go before establishing herself as a player for all surfaces but she also has the potential to do so. And Simona is already fine on hardcourts but still needs to improve indoors and on grass.

In contrast, Alex C strikes me as an out and out clay courter and this is probably what she will remain and as such it is probably for the best that she sticks to the red stuff as much as is feasible.

True. That was definately her best result of the year and one of the most surprising, even baffling, results by anyone over the course of the year. I have no idea how she did it either. Maybe we are underestimating her and she should be playing Midland and then Memphis right now and kicking some indoor ass.

But I guess it was more Mona completely losing her head. They have already played one match before at Wimbledon QR1 and Alex was able to win 9 games without having ever played on grass before as far as I can think back! :spit:

Yeah, that's probably it. There must be something about Alex C's game that troubles Mona since Alex has played so competitively against her twice on fast surfaces. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Alex C got to play Mona on clay.

Curcubeu
Feb 20th, 2012, 10:43 PM
Yeah, her 1st serve really isn't that bad. Her second is a mess, though, and she is still hitting too many DFs.

She also defended quite decently with some good length in her shots, hit some nice forehands as well, her return was surprisingly solid, her backhand on the other hand is quite loose. However, it's enough to beat Dokic today.

Where did you watch it?

It's was a unexpected quality match from two clay girls on HC. The first set was taken from ATP book - not any break points, very high percentage on first service (100 % for Alexandra ), very disputed TB.
In the second set Alexandra saved THREE times from 15-40 in Federer's style - very well placed and strong first services. :worship:
