"The first set I played absolutely amazingly – I was hitting the ball really hard and she didn't have any time to react, then in the second set she started to play really well also, it was not like I went down, she just played too well. Sometimes that happens.
But at the start of the third set I started to play well again and she went off her game."

Perhaps there's no need for us to ask for a 3-setter for Groth and Petkovic;the blasted Brisbane rain has returned so Marion's next opponent will have to play TWO matches if the current weather holds 'til tomorrow. No excuse for Marion to not be the fresher of the two in her SF match:o

Chakvenus
Jan 6th, 2011, 03:58 AM
i completely agree with the concerns being posted here.
Marion - in all honesty - did not really play ALL that well today; Zahlavova Strycova is just a crazy bitch whose attitude cost her the match, or at least a respectable scoreline pretty much from the get go. Having said that, Marion did play as well as she had to today, but there were still a bunch of zany, random unforced errors that will not suffice against Groth/Petkovic. If her return game is on, though (and she returned pretty well today) then she could win, but if not, i too fear that she'll be blasted off the court. Marion is obviously the best player of the three, but looking at all three's most recent matches, Marion's was the least impressive.
Allez Marion!

Explanations HERE (http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/sport/marion-bartoli-cruises-into-brisbane-semis/story-e6frg7mf-1225983090032)

After a week of stifling heat and humidity, Brisbane's weather changed Thursday to cool and wet, which Bartoli said meant adjustments to her game.

"The conditions out there were very heavy, the balls were getting really heavy and it was hard to get rhythm today especially from the back of the court,'' she said.

"The conditions the other day were a lot faster but today I had to work a lot harder to get into the point and get my rhythm.''

At the end of the day, she is a former world no 1.Both Slam finalists,too...the difference being that Dinara blew an excellent shot at winning a Slam. She led the H2H vs. Sveta prior to the 2009 RG final, but mentally checked out beforehand.Of course,I can't deny that Sveta MIGHT have found a way to win, anyway, but that match was lost before it ever began......Whereas I think Marion truly gave her best effort at 2007 Wimby and simply ran into a grass-court machine....In another year(with a less-perfect foe),she may very well have won Wimbledon

Mistake in the rankings? They say shes down to #17, with Sharapova moving in front of her, but Marion outdid Sharapova this week and wasnt defending anything from last year :confused:No mistake. It's just that Marion didn't earn any more points. Her 16th best result is yet 120 pts. And Maria had 0 as 16th best result. So, Auckland points are added to her total contrary to Marion who still gets the same total.

Returning well, defending well, creating some nice angles. Her 2nd serve is still a joke though. She didn't get that may in, but then Dinara isn't a very aggressive returner. They played some great rallies!

Could have been a double bagel as she had game point in the game she was broken in: hit 2 double faults and sent a forehand long ,but I'm glad it wasn't.

I have three concerns:

.The first serve isn't firing

.Losing substanial leads (4*-1 ad-40 to Petkovic and 2*-0 40-0 today)

.Two consecutive 6-4 6-2 losses to lower ranked players

Also a note from todays match: she was standing too far inside to receive the first serve, which gave Klara the opportunity to consistently hit the slice serve out wide, and it worked, and Marion didn't learn from it, kinda like the match vs Davenport in Indian Wells 2008.

I find this loss slightly irritaing but I understand it. She better hope for a good Auddie draw though else she'll feel stupid for tanking.

But apparently no play expected in Hobart tomorrow so she did the right wing... She couldnt risk staying there until Sunday or even Monday.

Radwanska took a medical time-out when down a double break in the final set, which disrupted Kimiko. Kimiko proceeded to lose 3 games in a row and eventually lost the match.

Sammy has a history when it comes to bitching about Marion and I can guarantee if it had been Marion in Radwanska's place, he'd have been in the thread straight away putting his two pence in.

Really bad mental from Marion. She gave up on this match as soon as she knew she didn't feel well. She can't fight past injuries. She must be at 100% otherwise she is losing the plot. That's what happened today. She totally let Manasieva get in the zone playing everything down the middle at medium pace. She wasn't aggressive on returns, basically she lost all kind of confidence despite a pretty warm crowd.
Again she has a pretty bad start of a year because of lack of fighting spirit when something goes wrong in her mind. It starts to be a real problem no matter how well she plays.

Remember Lena after the same injury during 1/2 RG vs Fran.

Just hope that she will avoid surgery.

Does anyone know what the exact injury is?

All I know is that she's out for 6 weeks.
