Let´s hope that 2011 will be Mimi's year :rocker2:

She will start to play in Auckland, then she will play in Hobart and in Melbourne.

First good news of the year: Tamira doesn't have to play Qualies in Auckland, because she got MD-spot :woohoo:

@joe87: Probably no stream as they will probably put the New Zealand girls and Sharapova, Kuznetsova, Safina, and Wickmayer on TV instead of Mimi's match

Best of luck in 2011, Mimi!:bounce:

Not a bad draw in Auckland.
QF vs Sharapova would be great.

OMG I love the Tamira/Simona Halep team!:inlove:

The doubles match Tamira/Simona vs Arvidsson/Erakovic was on the livestream and they lost 2-6 1-6.:awww::sad:

Is there anything positive to say? Well, here and there Tamira had a nice point, but other than that, no! Mimi was so cute!:hearts:
Tamira and Simona are simply no doubles players. And they basically have no experience in doubles, especially compared to their opponents. But doubles is good match practice for them.

Tamira is SOOO much better in singles.

Her R1 match vs Arvidsson is on Centre Court, so there will be a livestream!;)

Well, according to the point-by-point archive she is serving really well at the moment, she got only broken once against Ferguson and held all her service games against Bondarenko
And she won pretty many service games to 0, that is for sure the most important thing :yeah:

Maybe the hard fitness-training in the off-season paid finally off :bounce:

But even more important is IMHO, that she got some match-praxe and confidence because of playing 4 matches in a row :)

Aravanecaravan
Jan 10th, 2011, 04:45 PM
Well, it's good that she won four in a row, but I am still concerned by that ugly loss at Auckland to Arvidsson, who like Groth can serve really well. If Tamira can't match her serve game for serve game, this will be over pretty quick. Unless she returns particularly well, and can get, and win some break chances. If she gets by Groth, who knows, but it will be one tough match, for sure. But regardless, it has been a good week for her. Should give her some confidence going into the AO.

Yeah, Groth in R2 is a very tough opponent. In the tournament winner Thread in GM I voted for Groth to win Hobart. Hope I`m wrong though. But it will definitely be a good test for Tamira ahead of the AO!

Saw the match from the middle of 1st set until the end.:hearts:

And you could see Tamira has worked really hard in the off-season.:yeah:

I think she improved her serve a bit. Was pleasantly surprised. Even hit a couple Aces. And often her serve helped her to start aggressive in rallies.
But also a few DFs at stupid times. We should be aware that her serve will never be a big weapon and can easily break down at any time. But Tamira is on a good way. She tries to improve it!

Yeah, these wins should give her confidence, very important.
I really liked what I saw vs Rogowska. That`s the Tamira I love:
Patient, smart play, deep groundstrokes, attack at the right time, mentally strong.

Of course Groth in R2 is a MUCH tougher opponent than Rogowska.

I will support her for you :) Alarm at 3am my time! GF think I'm crazy :) :bounce:

Aravanecaravan

Interesting. Dulko is no pushover for Woz, but Caro will probably get past her. King has played pretty well recently so Tamira has a tough 1R match, but winnable. If she gets past that, she really has nothing to lose in R2. Could be quite interesting.

Similar story to Paszek- who is still young.
Watched her match against Vania. Vania tries so hard and is a clever player. I really like her. (and also feel sorry for bc of that evil mary-moll Fernandez stoppping her play fed cup) Pazsek is such a Sprem. A few years back, no fear in hitting, so whilst she is fitter, she has lost that enginma.

Sorry for the lack of update on my side, limited internet access. Tough lost in Miami, after leading 3-1 in the final set. It comes up to service game regularity. Lot of DF in the first set, that she lost, less DF in the second and final set and she was fighting on each point even if his opponent was receiving services a good 3 feet inside the baseline.
Mimi left Miami late last weel for a good week of training in the US. Then heading to Charleston, main draw, then Europe.
There will be more collaboration with Larri Passos (former Guga coach) in the upcoming weeks/months. So it's a good news.

Was she out practicing at Crandon Park last week at all? Didn't see her once, and I sure made a LOT of rounds of the practice courts looking for players. Sorry I didn't get to see her play. I thought I might have seen her once in street clothes, with her boyfriend, but I was probably mistaken. I heard Passos was working with an ATP player now, but good for her if it works out with him again, I guess.

She hitted some balls Monday morning with hitting partner on court next to Grandstand. Then lost match the same day. Pretty emotive lost...
Then that fantastic tournament organization removed her access as she lost so she had to practice to another location outside the tournament. A private club and she had to pay but as they knew the owner of the private club they did not had to.
No transport, food, gym access, no court access. Pretty bad! Mimi and dad left Friday.
Passos collaboration will part time when he will be around in tournaments. They had a good chat Wednesday and I'm sure it can give only positive things.
My friend took pictures and they will be posted later next month.

Sorry to hear that she lost her tournament access. That doesn't seem fair at all. I was really hoping to see her play when I got there on Tuesday. I hope Passos will be able to help restore her confidence and give her more consistency.

Tamira Paszek def. Laura Siegemund 75 64

I watched the 1st set, and got surprised how well Laura was playing until 5-2. She was reading Tamira's game like a book, getting everything back with depth, spin and sometimes power (even on the FH side) and mixed with some FH drop shots from time to time. Then again, Tamira's shots were only 3/4 of the court, allowing Laura to handled them well. Tamira got Larri Passos on court for coaching at 1-4 and she improved. Her shots started to have more depth, many were near the lines and surprisingly, she was attacking Laura's BH. When serving for the set at *5-3, Laura tried to be agressive, beating Tamira on her own game, which was a big mistake, because Tamira likes pace, rythim, not boring spin shots, so she took control of the set and eventually won it. I was expecting a much easier 2nd set tough, I wonder what Laura did to win 4 games.

HenryMag.’s reports:
Tamira Paszek def. Heather Watson 60 63

Ball striking wise, I was more impressed with Heather today. She had some nice winners, she tried to work out the point better, doing some angled shots, countering mainly with her BH DTL, which worked most of the times she tried. Even if the score seems like a beatdown, it was far from it. Many games went to deuce, but most of them went to Paszek. I can say the experience of playing on WTA level really prevailed. Paszek never missed a shot, unless forced to, on a game or break point to Watson. She saved some BP/GP with gutsy shots on the lines (BH DTL winners) or even FH drop shots. The only time Tamira showed any sign of sloppiness was when she was broken to 2-2 in the 2nd set, gifting that game with a couple of lame UEs. She regrouped and broke back immediately. After Tamira held to 6-0 4-2, Heather tried to be aggressive, generate her own pace instead of using Tamira's to counterpunch. She got 2 BPs on Tamira's serve at 6-0 4-3, but as I said, Tamira didn't give Watson a chance with a unreturnable slice serve and aggressive play from the baseline. Watson pratically handled the match with some desperate attemps to hit winners from the baseline with no success: netted FH and wide out BH DTL. Overall, I think Miss Heather Watson tried everything that her game allows: she tried to moonball, but Tamira has probably the best counter moonball on Tour (always on the corner of the court with actual pace, which troubled Heather); she tried to stay in rallies with Paszek, that actually worked for most of the match, since it's her natural game, she was just unlucky (and gutsy play from Tamira) on her chances to win games; aggressive, going for the winner shots at the end, with relativelly low success. That's the main issue that can hold back Watson in her progression: if she plays someone with such a clean strike, good pace and decent movement, she will always be dependable on what the opponent will do, especially on a slow surface, since she can't easily hit winners to get her the important points.

Tamira was very happy with the win and I wish her good luck tomorrow.

Anastasiya Yakimova 57 40 ret.

Yakimova with some lucky shots (bad bounces on clay and 3 shots in the service line) got to a *4-1 and Tamira didn't know how to pass Yakimova off the ground. Her father got on court and she improved. More patient, she insisted on attacking Yakimova's BH with her own BH, forcing Yakimova to do defensive paceless to the middle of the court slices that Tamira tried to punish with some angled CC BH, finishing off the points with a powerful DTL BH. Yakimova held serve at *4-3 with 2 aces, but of the ground she was now being dominated by a very patient and fighter Tamira, who did know exactly what to do. When Yakimova served at *5-4, she had 2 SPs: first Tamira forced the error from Yakimova; second, Yakimova hits a drop shot, Tamira makes the counter drop shot that Yakimova read it perfectly and was there on time, but missed the FH DTL passing shot to the doubles alley. Tamira eventually broke and easily got the last 2 games, with some signs of sloppy play from Yakimova until then pratically non-existance, missing some routine shots. Tamira called the physio in the change of sets, but she didn't get any medical time out. Her intensity of play lowered in the beginning of the set and she was eventually broke with some UEs on a 15 mins first game. The beginning of this set was very similar to the first one: Tamira wasn't very patient and she made some unnecessary UEs on her CC shots. Yakimova got the 2nd break to *3-0 and called the physio herself, but then again no medical time out. Tamira also talked to her father and then with physio, but no time out again. Yakimova held serve and when Tamira was serving at 4-0*, sloppy play from the belarussian gave a 40-0 that's Tamira didn't took it and after netting a shot to go to deuce, she walked to the chair umpire and she said she couldn't continue the match, it was too much to keep going. A sad in tears Tamira left the court, but hopeful she can play qualies in Madrid. Yakimova was visible worried too, not even a shy smile of happiness with the win, but more accepting she's through the next round rather than celebrating this supposed win.

Here is a report of a poster who attented the tournament yesterday :)

Makarova vs. Paszek was a really high-class match. I saw the end of the first set and all of the second set and Ekaterina wasn't playing the smartest match, usually hitting the ball into Paszek's hitting zone but once she played with more width to get Paszek on the run, she'd often win the point. Both players have really fluent and watchable groundstrokes and both hit some really nice winners and Makarova produced some good volleys in the second set. I haven't really seen much of Paszek but I've heard her serve often goes awry but it held up really well today and the statistics definitely confirm this.

Looked great in R2 vs. Brengle, but who knows, that may not be saying much. Anyway, she wasn't challenged on serve in the part I saw (2nd set), and looked very comfortable the whole way through, very consistent, letting Brengle make errors. I don't think Brengle served one more than 75 mph all night, either, which helped.

Anyway, on to the Qf.

Sure, if she wins tonight and makes it to the SF, I think there is a good chance it will be the match they show on the Tennis Channel tommorrow. They are supposed to show the "first semifinal" at 2:30 PM, and since Petrova plays the last match, I think that must mean Peer will get the first SF vs. either Mimi or Dubois, so as long as it is on TV, I will record it and upload it! Or if you want a DVD copy I can make one for you, no problem. Let's hope she wins first, though! ;) It's a tight match in set three at the moment.

I hope you enjoy the matches and bring her good luck!

It wasn't good. To be fair, neither player served worth a damn. I think the heat was a killer, though. Tamira changed outfits after the first set, and maybe after the second, when they took a 10 minute break because of the heat rule. She had towels filled with ice around her neck all night on the changeovers. The serves were probably dropping in at 70-75 mph on both sides. I think both of them were really fatigued. Even so, I think she had 4 aces.

She's definitely capable of serving much better, and harder than that.

Jul 31st, 2011, 12:56 PM
Saw the last two sets against Peer and it sucked that she couldn't close out the second.

But semi-finals of any tournament is good, compared to first round losses. :) Even if she played badly in the other matches that can be good, because it must give you confidence to play bad and still win three setters.

Aravanecaravan
Jul 31st, 2011, 03:31 PM
Tennis Channel cut away from the match at 1-0 in the third set to show Fish-Harrison. So I got about 2 hrs and 35 minutes of the match, but not the last set. If you still want it, I can upload it or make you a copy. Let me know.
