You know, we really do have a lovely tournament here in Auckland... but for some reason we just don't seem to have people who are good with computers involved here. Ugh. Hence the abysmal state of the website etc. Get yourselves organised soon please my local people.

Wow, how did Dentoni lose 6 games?

Leela's not bad really, hits pretty hard and moves okay, rallies well, she probably had the best chance of any NZ wildcard in the qualies to win at all. About the score I expected, especially given Corinna's recent struggles in her tennis. I don't expect Westbury, who moves poorly and is two handed both sides, (I don't think the higher bouncing surface will suit her) to do well at all honestly against Jill, and I haven't seen Fanning recently but her score probably won't be any better than Leela's. Although Fanning is growing up fast, so I'm not sure how much she's improved since I last saw her.

Great effort from Katherine Westbury, who played much better than I have seen from her over the last year, hitting her hardest, some big shots, but Jill was a lot fitter near the end. Westbury seems to have some issues with the fh though, particularly attacking high fhs, she almost looks like she struggles to reach some of the high balls on the fh, even short ones. Being two handed both sides doesn't help.

Fanning's 1hbh and serve were probably not up to the standard. Some big fhs though. I watched the first part of Stefanie and Sania too, Stefanie had an early break in the first set when I left.

Well, Sania and Stefanie's result is a bit of a surprise. I guess the last game I watched, which was at 3-1 to Stefanie, where Sania struggled to hold and avoided the double break, was a turning point. Sania was missing a lot of fhs and double faulting before that, I guess this changed too.
