Perhaps she's not cleared to practice yet, and decided to trail along to Sydney for treatment, or just to be with some friends she'd planned to meet up with. Fingers crossed she'll be off to Melbourne in the next day or two.

Lovely to get the win, and it will be good for Alize's confidence, but looking at Coco's GS maindraw record, I'm not sure we can draw any conclusions about Alize's form. For some reason Coco seems to play worse than normal in slam maindraws. Next round we'll see what Alize can do.

She played so aggressive, without seemingly making any mistakes.

She hit so cleanly, so accurately, and she played with a lot of confidence. She looked happy, and although it was a small court, she had so much support, everyone was cheering her on. She was so pleased after the win, signing autographs, posing for photos. Good stuff. She's such a nice girl.

One of Alize's best runs of recent times- the best in a slam for a while. The draw in the first 2 rounds was kind to her, since Maria Jose has not really been in the best of form in recent months, but nonetheless an excellent victory. Now she gets to have a no pressure match against Kim. I'm not sure Kim will win the whole title, but she is probably the favourite for the title, so Alize can just feel relaxed and play freely. However, there is a slight chance that Alize might get demolished, like Dinara did, which could be discouraging. Realistically Alize will not win against Kim. Honestly, that would be the upset of the year if it happened. But a decent score, 6-7-8 games as Pax says, would be good for her.

I didn't see the match today, but from what people say it seems she played some good tennis, which is great to hear.

Oh man, she played so well! :worship:

The first set was a big struggle, and she was trailing all set until she got back to level terms at 5-5. I can't quite remember what the score was but I thinnk she got down...5-3 or so, so from that point onwards she only lost 1 more game, amazing. Even though she got down early and had trouble holding, I always felt she'd win. At first she struggled with MJMS constant slices and drop shots, which was really, really annoying. She had 4 in the first two games, and about 10 in the first set. Towards the end Cornet started reading her game so much better, the drop shots dried up and Cornet started hitting the ball so well.

Honestly, her ball striking in the second set was brilliant, just such crisp hitting. She was nailing everything, and again her confidence just grew throughout the match. She was hitting outright winners off the return, and she dominated the rallies. I love seeing her happy and smile, and her reaction after winning was great. She again got good crowd support, she seems to be very well liked in Australia. :)

I didn't take any pics today, even though I was only a a couple of rows behnd the court. Was too interested, it was a really entertaining match with a fantastic outcome! :yeah:

yes I watched the match and that's true, she recovered her good ball striking. Gave some agressive strokes with her backhand.

I'm sure her ranking will go upwards over the next few months, she had such a strong Australian Open and finished it with a great fight against Clijsters, even if it wasn't her best match. She played so well in R1, and then fought so hard in set 1 against Martinez Sanchez before crusing in the second. She should be really pleased with her tournament and take a lot of confidence from it! :yeah:

wise and right analyse. She played very bad yesterday and her tiredness after fedcup event is not an excuse.
Many players play tourny after fed cup and they dont complain. They just play.

sorry but she's a professional and at times she was just abyssal in her level of play!:tape::help:
she lost it mentally by herself, she's not fighting against an opponent but against herself. She made 11 DFS, worthy of Dementieva at her prime:crazy:
sevastova did nothing great in that match since alize blew it to her.
She's still very emotionally weak and we saw it again here.So many ues, that's not her style of play.
The day she ll stop thinking too much and play point after point with a real tactic and relying on her strenghs(foot work and top spin forehand)and improve that serve, she's gonna come back to the top50.
If not, she'll stay where she is.A top70.

Well I didn't saw the match  So I was just giving my opinion about the scoreline and from what I have seen from both players this year already

The problem is that when a player hits with a bit of pace and constistancy (i.e. Sevastova) Alizé has NO response and promptly implodes in on herself.

sorry I didnt mean to "target " you but the way she behaved in that match was awful.
In 3rd set she kept saying "I dont manage to do it, I dont...) so negative and giving her opponent big signs of vulnerability. A real boost for sevastova and that's a thing she has to STOP.
so no that was not a good match at all for her cause she started again what she did for more than two years now: not believing in herself and being over negative. Her coach was saying her to stay positive even if she lose points but she didnt even hear him. Too obcessed about what she did wrong.
She must believe much more on herself and her strenghs or she's done.
Oh yes and WORK HARD ON HER SERVE.

Alize Cornet FRA [3] vs Xinyun Han CHN
Eva Birnerova CZE vs Vesna Manasieva RUS [24]

Good luck Alizé. Probably a tough second round.
