Francesca beat all of these three in her way to the victory of Roland garros (oh well, DEmentieva retired but ok).
Wonder how consistent she'll be this time. Good luck.

MAROON GROUP Tuesday preview:

[1] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #1) vs. [7] Elena Dementieva (RUS #9)
Head-to-Head: Wozniacki leads 4-3
Notwithstanding the pesky matter of Grand Slams, Wozniacki has been the player of 2010, earning her rise to No.1 by playing by the rules - and winning most of the time. With six titles from seven finals and the most match wins (59), the 20-year-old Dane has been especially impressive post-Wimbledon (29-2 in seven tournaments); what's more, her 85% season win-loss record in three-setters is the best among the Top 40. Today she faces one of the elite against whom she has enjoyed some of her best success, in what is one of the most satisfying 'inter-generational' rivalries on the tour. Wozniacki has won the pair's last two meetings, but both matches went to three, most recently in the final at Tokyo. Appearing at the WTA Championships for the 10th time in 11 years, Dementieva will be keen to balance the ledger for more than one reason: The 29-year-old has only made it past the round robin once since 2003, and after a tough year at the majors (bad draws, injury) this consummate pro will be doubly dangerous as she strives to finish the year on a high.
Hot Stats: This week provides Wozniacki will an opportunity to improve her 4-12 lifetime record against the Top 5 (1-0 in 2010). Among active players, Dementieva is tied in fourth place (w/Clijsters) for Top 5 wins - 30 (19 against Top 3).

Wednesday OOP for Maroon Group:
Caroline WOZNIACKI (DEN) vs Samantha STOSUR (AUS)

Preview:

[1] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #1) vs. [5] Samantha Stosur (AUS #7)
Head-to-Head: Tied at 2-2
Stosur was a little slow out of the blocks against Francesca Schiavone on Tuesday, but she reeled in the enterprising Italian in bracing style. That should stand her in good stead against Wozniacki, who did what she needed to do against a below-par Elena Dementieva, but wasn't genuinely tested. In essence, this is a clash between one of the premier servers on the tour, and one of the best baseline counterpunchers. Heading into Doha, Stosur had won 77.2% of her service games, second to Serena's 81.4%, but maintained her level over nearly twice as many matches as the sidelined American. Today, she'll need to hold her nerve and make the plays. For Wozniacki, the key will be to get a grip on the Aussie's kick serve to the backhand, which happens to be the Dane's stronger side. Stosur won the pair's last meeting, in the semis at Osaka in 2009, in a close three-setter, going on to beat Schiavone for her first Tour title. Both players have developed considerably since then. Fighting fit, they could deliver a classic.
Hot Stats: Since the US Open, Caroline Wozniacki has joined the all-time Top 20 leaderboard for hardcourt W-L percentages (.730, currently 15th place). This season Stosur has served 280 aces, second only to Nadia Petrova's 306.

Good Luck Caro! :)

Jorn
Oct 27th, 2010, 10:36 PM
I don't think Sam is in SF yet, rare things can happen... If

E.Dem d. Sam in 2 sets
Caro d. Fran in 2 sets
E.Dem d. Fran in 2 sets

Standing so will be:

1) Caro 2/1 4-2
1=) Sammy 2/1 4-2
1=) E.Dem 2/1 4-2
4) Fran 0/3 0-6

So games won will be the decider. (still unknown...)

She should be able to win Dementieva if she won Caro in straight sets and Caro won Elena by only losing 2 games

Wozniacki wins in 2 sets
Stosur and Wozniacki advance

Wozniacki wins in 3 sets
Stosur advances with Dementieva or Wozniacki
Schiavone is eliminated

They said on ES Caro need to win in 2 set.

Izzie.
Oct 28th, 2010, 06:18 PM
So if Caro wins in 3 sets she has a 4 -3 set record

Dementieva cannot better that, she can only equal it
which means it goes to Head to Head

So am I right in saying that a Wozniacki win would put her through ??

I believe this is correct. Wozniacki winning means that it's her and Sam through and Fran/Lena is irrelevant.
Unless it doesn't go to H2H and it goes to something else? I wouldn't know.

If Caro wins tonight and Elena wins tomorrow, 3 will have 2/1 so no HtoH is used...

According to my calculation Dementieva have no chances to reach the SF.

If Caro wins vs Schiavone then Dementieva must wins in 2 sets. Well if Dementieva beat in two sets Schiavone (in friday) the 2nd place will be decided by win/lost games. According to my calculation if Elena Dementieva wins 6-0 6-0, Wozniacki still will have better w/l ratio in games. So Caro is in the semis?

If Caro wins tonight and Elena wins tomorrow, 3 will have 2/1 so no HtoH is used...

But after # of wins comes sets.
Sam will be 5-2 in sets
Caro will be 4-3 in sets
Currently Lena is at 2-3

She can have...
A straight set win and be 4-3
A 3 set win and be 4-4
A straight set loss and be 2-5
A 3 set loss and be 3-5

The only way she would qualify is if she beat Fran in straight sets, BUT then it would go to H2H between her and Caro (as Sam has more sets than them both and is ALREADY in) and Caro leads their H2H.

Jorn
Oct 28th, 2010, 08:55 PM
Games won will be

Caro 34-22

ElenaD 31-27 (With 60 60 win tomorrow)

Or they use H2H where Caro wins.

What will they use?

crusader2
Oct 28th, 2010, 09:01 PM
Caro in the semis. If Elena wins Francesca in two sets,Wozniacki and Elena have same match(2-1)and set(4-3) records. But Wozniacki has game avarage better than Elena even if Elena wins Francesca 6-0 6-0. So Stosur and Woz are in the semi finals. Elena has no chance.

My calculations also say that Elena cannot qualify any more. But I wonder why they still say on ES that there's a possibility to reach the semis for her.
Feel confused.

Edit: a minute ago they corrected their mistake on ES ;)
