Has qualified for Bali YEC.
Awarded wildcard spots for Bali YEC without winning any International Tournament this year.
Expected to play Fed Cup Final during the same week so cannot play in Bali YEC.
Has missed Bali YEC.

New format for Bali this year btw.

Instead of the round-robin format used during the 2009 event, players will now have just one opportunity to advance to the semi-finals in an all-or-nothing knockout. The Tournament shall consist of a singles draw of 8 players (including two (2) wild card spots) in a single elimination format to be determined by the WTA. The top six (6) ranked singles players as of the Monday the week prior to the Tournament, who have won an International Tournament singles event during the current Tour Year and have not qualified for entry into the Sony Ericsson Championships singles draw shall qualify for the International Tournament of Champions. The final two (2) alternates in the Sony Ericsson Championships (“Singles Alternates”) are eligible to play the International Tournament of Champions, even if they participate in matches in the Sony Ericsson Championships. In the event any of the top six (6) ranked players do not compete in the International Tournament of Champions, the open spot(s) shall be filled by the next player who would have been accepted in accordance with the above requirements.
The Tournament shall be permitted to nominate as Wild Cards up to two (2) WTA Tour players who played at least one (1) International Tournament singles event during the current Tour Year and did not qualify for entry into the Sony Ericsson Championships singles draw.

Play will take place from Thursday 4th until Sunday 7th November with two matches a day. The first two days will see the eight players reduced to four for Saturday’s semi-finals, and Sunday will feature not only the final but a play-off for third and fourth place.

Less points:

Prize Money Ranking Points
Winner $210,000 375
Finalist $120,000 255
3rd Place $50,000 + $20,000 for Sunday win 180
4th Place $50,000 + $10,000 for Sunday loss* 165
1st Round $35,000 75

Daszmarelli
Oct 7th, 2010, 09:39 PM
Yeah, but she can go as alternate. She will play here or there as alternate?

Is Henin really OUT? I heard about she's ready to play and maybe in Linz.

Julian.
Oct 7th, 2010, 09:53 PM
^ I dunno about Henin.

You can still play Bali the week after if you are one of the alternates for Doha. But you can't play Bali if you qualified as one of the 8 main players of Doha.

Even it comes close to deadline, field is still volatile.

IMO it starts with question, if Serena can play WTA Championships in Doha, otherwise Li Na would completed field there and another spot is open for Bali.
Kremlin Cup's press center (http://www.kremlincup.ru/db/news/1471) said that Mascha "finishes her tennis season and will not play tournaments this year anymore". Do we have any confirmation from her?
I learned from Kara Kanepi's blog entry that she had to withdraw from Kremlin Cup. Can she play in Bali?
Agnes Szavay withdraw from Luxembourg. If she qualifies, do we have any information from her that she will play in Bali?

Can Na play here if she become the alt 1 of Doha?
As nobody can overtake Na she is at least ALT 1. In the unlikely event another player withdraw from WTA Championsphips, she move to status of qualifyied player and consequentely is not allowed to participate at Bali.

Rule for both ALTs:
The final two (2) alternates in the Sony Ericsson Championships (“Singles Alternates”) are eligible to play the International Tournament of Champions, even if they participate in matches in the Sony Ericsson Championships.
[...] are WC free of any kind of rule? :secret:
Technicaly no, practically yes, as these are prerequisites for both WCs:

Two Players (2) who played at least one (1) International Tournament singles event during the current Tour Year and

I think they shall make a standard 32-field tournament - they have to play 5 matches after all and there are 27 champions (+1) this year.Of course, they prize money then will be raised, but a champion's trophy will really mean something for all champions in the year and certainly be a ticket to Bali.

Alisa's WTA blog from Moscow:

Friday, October 22, 2010

Hi everyone,

I lost to Vika today in the quarterfinals. It was a close match and every game was tight. Vika was playing great today - I think one of the reasons was that she qualified for Doha and the pressure wasn't there anymore. She was really enjoying the match today and playing freely. I did as much as I could but it's the end of the year and everyone is feeling a bit tired. It wasn't easy for me to stay at my top level for all of the match. I made some mistakes on important points.

I'm happy with the tournament and my year overall. I won two tournaments and reached the quarterfinals here. I just have to wish Vika good luck for the rest of the tournament and for Doha. She played better than me and deserved to win.

I really hope I can always play well in Moscow. You always want to do more here. Year by year I feel less pressure, I'm not paying so much attention to expectations and I just try to enjoy the support of the home crowd. They expect you to beat certain players and this can put a lot of pressure on the Russian players, but I try to just go out there and play. We are not machines, you can't push a button and perform your best. The most important thing is give your all.

It's great news for me that I have qualified for Bali. The last couple of weeks, I wasn't sure I would be there. One of the good things is that it made me play well - I wasn't stressed but I just said 'Okay, if I don't get in, I don't get in. I will finish my season and go on holidays sooner!' But of course I'm happy that I did it.

I had some interviews I had to do here yesterday so I practiced and stayed until 6pm. Traffic was so bad on the way home, by the time I got there I didn't want to do anything. I relaxed and went to bed early. It was nice to have a day off!

Thanks for reading this week and I'll talk to you all again soon :)
