Here. If you'd like to run one of the tournaments played during weeks when there are two of the same tier (level), you just state your choice here. Otherwise we play the biggest event of the week, so if one big and one small tournament is played at the same week, we always play the bigger one - like for instance Sydney, eventhough Hobart is being played that same week.

So, If you guys are okay with me attempting to host a tournament let me know! (I'm only world 37....)

No, british_player already signed up for Brisbane and we only play one tournament per week, so you can't pick Auckland I'm affraid. But you can choose any other event on the following weeks;)

You guys are right, there's no more Portoroz, as well as Warsaw (Brussels instead). When I was creating this thread I used a PDF file that I downloaded from the WTA website, cause there was still no calendar officially on the website. That file contained a calendar of events for 2011, but it looks like it didn't contain all the changes to the schedule. Thanks for bringing that to my attention:)

I'll sign you up, no problem.

But one tournament per week is not a new thing - that's how we played throughout the whole of 2010 season.

Before it was optional, so sometimes we played one and other times two, but we had to make a rule, cause before people were never sure which tournament(s) is/are being played so some had much more points than others (some were also running challengers and not telling anyone, just to give themselves more chances of collecting points:rolleyes:).

So, to prevent players taking advantage of the lack of rules, we agreed last year that it's best if we play only the biggest event of the week every time, and if there are two tournaments of the same category scheduled for some weeks, then the moderator for that week decides which event is going to be played.

I can't really "reserve" an event, especially since we don't know which one, but I'll be sure to let people know that you'd like to run some of these, so that we don't run out of tournaments for you:lol: Nice to see so many people interested in running tipping events!

I can run Paris (7th of February) :)

And the AO as I see that we don't have a manager for that yet. It's a big time difference, but that would be the case for most of us. So I will post scores in the evening (CET).

I can definitely run more tournaments, but for now we are set until the 14th of February.

Great, I've signed you up for Paris. And as for Melbourne, if we don't get anyone interested in running it for a few more days, I'll probably sing myself up for it. Of course, if that happens, I'll appreciate any help with things like OOP's etc.;) But I think it goes without saying already that we all help eachother out when it comes to running events, which is another nice thing about tipping:)

Okaaay...so you made 49 posts since last October, which means that you could make 100 by...some time around the French Open:lol: Maybe if you would join some of those PYW Championships that are going on in the games section, or some of the players cheering threads, that could get you to 100 much faster;) Of course, you're welcome to sign-up for any event once you're able to run it:)

I could explain everything (there's not much to explain really) if you change your mind about PYW. In fact, currently I'm running some of those PYW 2010 national championships, and we could use some extra players... Anyway, let me know about this running of tournaments when you get to 100 (if you're still interested then).

I still don't know if there are rules for PYW posted anywhere, but as someone pointed out, it's basically a popularity contest. Between each two players you just Pick Your Winner i.e. the one you like more than the other and post. Each time someone does that, a player gets one game, and the scores are run just like in real tennis, the player who first gets to 6 (or 7), wins the set. There are no tie-breaks, so one pick resolves the set if it gets to 6 all.

Sorry folks for using this thread to explain the rules of another game, hope you don't mind:)

Of course you can (I'll sign you up), but be aware that running a slam can be tough and demanding, I was running it last year and it was the first tournament I ever ran, and I wouldn't like to go through that experience again:D Of course, once you "figure things out" and get into it a bit more it becomes easy, but the first time can be tricky. Of course, you can always send me a message if you have questions, and I'll try to help out as much as possible. BTW, I hope you don't have a lot of things to do away from the forum in the weeks to come, cause keeping track of all the picks, matches, scores, OOP's etc., takes some time. A bit off-topic, but I don't suppose any of you here would mind too mcuh if we would change the calendar format in time for 2012, due to obvious reasons? Some players are not happy with the fact that there are all these tournaments being played in and around Europe, as well as North America, but there are very few in Asia/Pacific. That'll really need to change, so we'll probably end up with playing 2 tournaments at certain weeks next year, as well as skipping certain weeks altogether. Top15 format of the rankings will most probably stay (no real reason to change), and the overall number of tournaments will be almost identical as this year. So don't be surprised if next year you see a heavy scheduling in the weeks before the AO, as well as for post USO part of the season.

I don't like the idea of skipping weeks.

Neither do I, and I'll make sure that if it happens, it's as rarely as possible, but it could happen unless WTA makes a better tournament schedule from the one they issued for 2011. It probably won't happen more than 2 or 3 times in a year though.

Sorry (to all of you) for such a late response, yes, all tournaments are available, so you can manage Bali since you were the first one to ask. But believe me, it's not a very exciting tournament to run, cause there are very few matches. Point distribution is also different, so it's something I'll have to tell you about (or you can scoop around for yourself, see how it was done last year, and let me know if you don't understand something).

Done! And we're also done for the season, all of the remaining tournaments are now reserved:)

When will the manager thread for 2012 be available. I want to try to be a manager for once. :)

As soon as the final WTA calendar for 2012 is available - we'll see when will that be, might happen even by the end of October (but it'll probably be during November). Also, as mentioned earlier, next year we'll have a much different calendar than so far, with more tournaments in Asia and Oceania, and with not as many in Europe, Africa and the Americas (because of the need to spread them more evenly across time zones). When the thread is out I'll make sure people know about it by announcing in various threads etc., not to worry;)

I still don't like that idea.

I don't like it either, but it's the fair thing to do. There will (most probably) still be more tournaments in Europe and Americas than Asia and Oceania, but the difference won't be as noticable as this or in the previous seasons.

And...why do we need a new manager for Bali? Am I missing something:confused:

longtin23 has been inactive for a while (as far as I know).

I don't really think that it is "unfair" to have more tournaments in Europe... but I guess it's not a big deal as long as we won't play an ITF instead of an International tournament (or I instead of a Premier)

 Okay thanks. Looking forward to some new tournaments in Asia and Oceania. Near my time zone :) :p

what happens if a qualified player doesn't commit to play Bali (longtin23, nickyboy)? Will they be replaced?

Yup, replaced with the next player in by points in the race. We had that situation last year too, cause some winners of qualifying events became inactive over the course of the season.

P. S. :yeah: for your new avatar:lol:

I have some accidents in the past weeks, but I am active now. I can manage and commit to Bali now :)
