I think Julia must have been sleeping on the court! I am sure Coco played great given the result but feel sad that this will mar a really good tournament for Julia which could have been even (much) better!

Anyway, good win for the young American. Great tournament for her and hopefully we will be seeing more results from her in the future. Looks like she'll be sticking around for a while.:)

I'm not really sure . I do know that she's scheduled to play a 100K+H in Tokyo next week, followed by a WTA tourney in Osaka, Japan :D.

That's a major stretch :p.

But CoCo :worship::worship::worship: her second really good tournament since the summer, so looking quite good for her :yeah:.

This run is reminding me a bit of what Sloane Stephens did at Indian Wells this year and what Alexa Glatch did in Fed Cup last year. Great play out of the blue. Neither followed it up though (yet) so hopefully CoCo can :D.

Beat Azarenka?

6th match in a row, Julia out of power :fiery:

Don't think that Vandeweghe has a promising potential.

The wta tour is a pure game of dice in this days. I wouldn´t bet my money on anyone.

Coco

What's more impressive is that she hasn't lost a single set since the qualifying round to reach the QF and beating a lot of in-form players along the way (Garbin, Groth, Zakopalova, Rezai and now Goerges)

Have you seen her play? If she continues to get into great shape and stays healthy, she could really be a top player. She has to improve her movement and net game some, but that has come a long way this year. The serve and the groundies are really solid.

What people don't understand is that when she's off the game, she is really OFF and it's a chore to watch her match  And unfortunately, her last match at USO was that painful.

No. Chinese Organisers would not consider it. This is not China, and it's not like any US tournaments give WC to any CHN players even if they won a itf title there. :p

If Coco made the semis, who would get the 4th bye in Beijing? All the semifinalists get a 1R bye. This could get interesting!

Keep it up Coco!

Another quarterfinal clash set up early in the day was No.8 seed Victoria Azarenka and qualifier Coco Vandeweghe, after Azarenka's 62 retirement win over No.11 seed Marion Bartoli (viral illness) and Vandeweghe's 63 60 win over Julia Goerges. This is a first-time meeting and Vandeweghe's second Sony Ericsson WTA Tour quarterfinal, after her run to the final eight at San Diego in the summer (where she beat Zvonareva en route to her first final eight).

"I'm very excited to be in the quarterfinals and play Azarenka next. It's going to be fun and a great experience," Vandeweghe said. "I've won about six matches so far, which is a lot; it helps me against players who have only played three matches. And my first quarterfinal was more difficult because I went to three sets three times before I played Kuznetsova; I'm more fresh this time."

Vandeweghe is the only American left in the singles draw. "We have a few left in doubles, so I'll cheer them on," she said. "It's great to be carrying the flag for once. I have a big family - they're all asleep but every day I wake up to 100 e-mails, so they're going a little crazy over there. They're really excited for me."
