Okay, I love the way Sharapova was hitting against Mauresmo. I love the intensity and drama between Ivanovic and Hantuchova, but my vote goes to Henin and Dementieva because the match quality and variety was just at another level.

Wow. This is actually a good thread, and you fools come in here with some stupid ass posts.

jroll - of the three I'd agree with you, I remember that Rogers Cup Semi. Vintage horrible-serve Elena with kick-ass groundies, and some awesome rallies.

The Aussie Open semi final was so frustrating. Dani went from good to... because she let Ana's mannerisms get to her.

2 sets of the US Open match weren't even close to competetive. Silly Amelie

Didn't see the match, but watched the highlights. Seems to be a great match, presume that is was the best

My shallow reason is not merely the tennis: I enjoy the fact that Maria handled the pressure of wearing a special outfit -- then it didn't get in the way of her tennis. Her wins in NY felt like a good moment for women's tennis.... until the press f#cked it up by focusing on that "banana incident" in the final...but I digress.

I agree. In 2006 Maria served Women's tennis very well. But I still feel that the Henin/Dementieva match was a bit better in quality and variety

i like maria-amelie because it shows lots of passion from maria since her loss to momo in wim and determination to win

Ana-dani in the other hand serves the sense of drama Ana was sure loosing like almost 100& but in the end the crowd helps her get through it shows how a good performer Ana is in big crowd but I hate to see Dani hurt herself so that's not my favourite one

Okay, so the Serena/Clijsters match was soo intense! Great shot-making I must say. And for Serena to come back from a couple of Matchpoints down is remarkable

Now the Sharapova/Davenport match....:hearts: The hitting was tremendous! Sounded like it was bullets being shot back and forth. Very high quality. And the fearless teenage years of Sharapova was just a joy to watch.

Oh Maria. Looks at that fierce teen beating davenport in wimby semifinals.Beating davenport in your first match against her not to mention in a major semi is phenomonal.Davenport was so tough to beat for young players with her consistent big game. Very sad that Maria will never come back.

Hingis-Venus for me, no contest. Amazing display of shotmaking and athleticism, easily the best match of the three.

Kim-Serena was ok for the first two sets, and in the third Kim choked. Lindsay choked too, and that match with Maria was just meh overall.

Yea they both were just soo strong on the court. That match could have went either way. That's sad when someone has to lose when both are playing soo well:sad:

Thanks for posting these highlights. Hadn't looked at this match in a long time.

That point about 2 minutes in is one of the best points I've ever seen two women play. They had some really fantastic rallies. I don't remember the majority of the match being so high quality though...

This was a different Serena back then. Look how much better her return was, and how much more often she hit off the front foot, rather than from out of position or falling backwards. Even Kim was a different player. I hesitate to say she was a better player than she is now - but really she was, certainly more complete and patient. More offensive now.
