Julia was up 6-1 5-2 and then :tape:

Both were awful on second serves though, the statistics are absolutely fugly.

Moving on for Dinara, she had her chances in the third and failed. Atleast she didn't lose pts here.

Great win for Julia though this should have been a 6-1 6-2 or 6-3... Nice win though... :cheer:

As for Dinare I really think she should end her 2010 season and start her preperation for 2011... the season is almost over and it wouldn't do her bad to get somewhat away from tennis a bit and comeback with better.

Julia, you should have won it in 2 sets, awful after 52* in 2nd set, you have to get better when it is about taking chances, but on the other hand, great fight in 3rd set, recovered fast and didnt get broken in 3rd set at all, there she even saved 2 BPs, really strong there, Safina surely didnt play great tennis but still it is the biggest win for Görges so far IMO, wins over former or current No. 1´s are always great, well done and important for her confidence that she won it in the end! :)

Dinara really belonged in Tashkent. She has no serve anymore, and she will go nowhere until that improves

lulz. Come back strong next season. So sad to see how quickly a player can turn from one who used to scare opponents even before she stepped on court to one who has become a laughing stock for a #1

Safina at the moment is pretty much a category like Mattek-Sands (Quebec shape) and Zakopalova, which just defeated her. So it's important, that she won this time, especially at a Premier 5. :)

Dinara should enter every tournament she can before the year is over.
Funny how a player can suddenly forget to play tennis.
Hope Dinara makes it back to the top 10 soon.

I'm happy for Julia. She was able to fight through a tough three set match and win against a quality opponent after the collapse in set 2. Regardless of Safina's level right now, Julia needs wins over players like this to climb to the next level.

wth is a choke

wasting a lead because you're afraid of winning
but pretty much everything is called choking here, even if the opponent is raising her level

U are one of those who can never agree :spit:

Yeah, she played yesterday her doubles in Seoul! So what, that would have only explained an easy 3rd set for Safina, but that isnt a excuse for the choke at 52*, and here the word choke is definetly right, as Julia was afraid to win, has nothing to do with Seoul amd yeah. that´s what I said, right now Safina is same category as those two, but definetly a bigger name and I am 100% that this win means more to Julia than her wins against Mattek or Zakopalova before;)

Georges is a very good player, however you can not choke at 5-2 and expect to win matches.

But I don't think anyone could call Dinara ''a laughing stock''. She didn't go into a slump out of nowhere, she did suffer a serious injury and needs time to come back and regain form.

There are no effects of changing a tournament? That maybe it was one factor next to others (as usual) for losing temporarily the momentum in that match.

I feel a bit sorry for you Dinara, your back and all, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to hone your secretary skills ! I was rather harsh, but results mean alot in the sporting world, and right now your results are not promising...

Yeah, I forgot she had changed her coach few months ago.

That coach took to 1.00, this this new coach is taking even higher, to 100
