I read that also. Maybe Serena wants a tournament before the YEC.
She played Moscow before.

I always liked Moscow :D

When was the last time she played?

Does Serena care about No. 1 anymore or does she only like her grand slams?

Sep 27th, 2010, 10:44 AM
The YEC is a tough early draw. Everyone there is good.
She might want a few matches before it.
Doesnt mean Serena will win Moscow. Like Hobart before the 2007 AO

I'm sure she'll tank the Tournament as soon as she reached the QF or SF, to get a rest before Doha. It's just about getting some practice before Doha.

Yeah, I've read that too. The Kremlin Cup visa service said that she had asked for Russian visa for her and the team of hers, so her participation's very possible, I guess. I don't think she'd do that for nothing

If the rumor is true, then it's a smart move for "Team Serena". The field is "tennis light" , not a high profile event (most of the winners have been Russian), and it will give her an opportuniy to try out the foot away from the watchful eyes of the tennis press. Bring on those Russians !

Serena should really reconsider going to Russia. This is the epicenter of racism in the world honestly. Serena couldn’t handle racism abuse in America by a small minority. In Russia most likely than not, she will face racism and this would by the majority.

Serena has played in Moscow and done well. She made the final in 2007 and won the first set off Dementieva in the final.

This is also an attempt for Serena to gain some points and hold off Wozniacki, Zvonareva, or Venus for YE #1. Smart move. Weak field, you get the match play in. :yeah: Hope to see Serena there!

I was thinking the exact same thing. I saw many stories about racism and skinheads in Russia. From what I read it's an epidemic there. I even hear stories of kids being killed because they are a minority and the police not even reporting all the crimes for statistics. If you look on youtube there are literally tons of news stories on this.

This might be a reason why Dementieva is not playing here. Safina and Kuznetsova have advantage in choosing their required 2 premier 700 events

From Moscow website:
Serena Williams is to play the tournament 27.09.2010

The 1st-ranked Sony Ericsson WTA Tour player Serena Williams is obviously going to arrive to 2010 Moscow Kremlin Cup. The tournament visa service confirms that the Russian visa support was requested by Serena Williams and her team including her coach Aleksandara Bazhina.

The agent of Serena Dzhil Smoller has already sent all necessary documents. Serena Williams and her team will receive visas at Russian consulate in Los Angeles.

Since when Rena has a coach  Apart from Richard.
