Nice win. Back into the Top 100, now go on and save the WTA.

with a whole week off, Robson could go play the Commonwealth Games and try not to get smashed by a random girl from Kenya:woohoo:

well done Gretchen:hearts:

 Laura.

People are so starving for new blood on the WTA they're hyping the poor girl too highly. :help:

Together with Tomljanovic and Jovanovski they can really rock the boat in four-five years time, so beware

Good win Greta! I feel she can give Wozniacki a good run for the money.

Qualifying, beating two top 100 players is a good tournament in itself.

disappointing for Laura, thought she would win this match comfortably.

Though this was definitely a winnable match for Laura, it's still been a good week.

The likes of Martina H, V&S and Maria et al. winning so much at a young age has made us put too much pressure on many of these young players. We expect too much.

Why the hell did so many people expect Robson to win? I'm upset she lost but who in their right mind actually deemed her the favourite in this match? I was SMH when I saw her as betting favourite...

Good Question. For me it was already a big success for Laura, to get through the qualifikation draw. I didn´t expect her to do that.
And Arn is no unexperienced push-over, too.

I agree. I'm still gutted though. One would think she could dispatch a poor player like Arn easily by now. I'd have loved to see the match, I haven't seen her for a while. I'd really like to know what's stopping her long-awaited breakthrough.

Absolutely. Laura beat two other youths to justify her wildcard spot, but by no means were they comfortable victories. Looking at them individually, Sevastova appears to be in a bit of a slump and Halep seems far better suited to clay than fast hardcourts. I have seen Greta play a few times this year and I was expecting a far sterner test, one Laura was more likely to come out of with the short end of the stick.

That being said, I'm not at all saying Laura wasn't in with a golden opportunity here (to at least make R2). She didn't draw a spectacular player with consistent week-to-week, month-to-month, year-to-year results; however, this loss shows that Laura isn't quite ready to become a WTA stalwart. No doubt she'll continue to improve; let this be a stepping stone for her.

The days of super teens winning majors is over. Far better to build slowly with maturity. As others say it is dangerous to expect too muc too soon. I hope Laura gains experience and doesn't let external hype and expectations frustrate her.

Agree. Disappointing result in some ways but let's not forget (I think it was you, reetard, who mentioned this before) that Greta herself has made major strides this year, jumping from 240 odd to around 100 in the last four months. I think it's another step forward for Laura - she has jumped 200 places in the rankings this year and is just outside the top 200. She'll be able to play more events next year so she hopefully will be able to move further forward than when she has just had to dip into and out of the senior events. She's obviously still got a lot to learn and playing someone as experienced as Arn will have taught her a lot.
