Mirjana makes mistakes in series, so if Sorana keeps returning her shoots, Mirjana will make a mistake. So for this match Sori needs a completely different tactic than she usually do. GL Sori! :cheer:

OMG. That is a seriously worrying loss. Probably the worst of Sorana's career. Coming as it does at a time when Sorana is desperately in need of ranking points one can only conclude that she is either lacking in fitness, motivation or direction, possibly all three.

I'm sure at some point things will improve but losses like this don't make the short term prognosis for her at all optimistic I'm afraid.

the_tk
Sep 24th, 2010, 10:01 AM
I think its lack of direction. too many coaches this year. just in adidas team she has like 20 advisers and coaches.
She must go alone with one coach, which guides only her and to give it time, not to replace a coach every two months when things are difficult. She must be patient.

Next year will be critical for her. and honestly, I don't see how things will get better.
I don't see her making a significant change, and something must to change.

I believe that Sori no more than ever, needs to play as much as she can. To be honest, it's not like she won a lot of matches this year and taht she needs a break.

But the most important thin now for her is TO GET A COACH!

Yeah I thogh so too but it is just for Linz and luxembourg
what do you guys think about dailidou can she beat her??

Curcubeu
Oct 10th, 2010, 06:46 PM
Danilidou is currently number 205 of the world rankings and far away from her best (like Sori, too).

She only convinced on grass or when she was playing in her home country. So, she recently won the ITF-tournament in Athens, but in Linz she has already struggled for reaching the final qualifying round. If Sori plays like she did today, she will definitely win it. :)

vuhvuh
Oct 10th, 2010, 07:05 PM
curcubeu you saw sorana I think she still doesnīt have good serve uhlirova maybe played horrible please visit soranas picture thread and visit the web I posted there are two pictures of sorana from first q day and on one of them there are two men with her do you think they may be her coaches???

Curcubeu
Oct 10th, 2010, 07:53 PM
I'm not really sure, but I think I know the men from the Mouratoglou Academy, where Sori is sometimes coached. You must know that there is no other player among the Top 100 who has more "coaches" than Sori :rolls:
It would be better if she would concentrate on one coach and not on the many coaches of Mouratoglou Academy or the Adidas Development team

But you are right that her serve is awful this season and her game really depends on her first serve, like she showed us last year. I hope she will beat Danilidou, even when she doesn't serve well. Today against Uhlirova she had close service games in the first set, but in the second one, she gave only one point away during her service games.

Let's stay optimistic :)

the_tk
Oct 10th, 2010, 10:43 PM
She left the academy. now she's only with adidas
three months ago she started training with a new coach - Rodrigo Nascimento. I think he's from adidas team also

Curcubeu
Oct 11th, 2010, 04:51 PM
I bet it will definitely be the match with most male audience! ;)

Yes, it's very sad to see her losing against an out-shape Danilidou. One year ago she was the dominating number one in Romania, but now just number 5 and that's totally justifiable.

Spiritof42
Oct 11th, 2010, 09:22 PM
As I thought, the easy win over Uhlirova (a 32-year-old doubles specialist with a career-high singles ranking of only 400) was not indicative of Sorana's current form. I wonder if she was aware that she would get a LL spot before the match, though. Shame she has to face Ivanovic. Hard to see her doing well in that one.

Poor Sorana. Her confidence must be at an all-time low.

Curcubeu
Oct 11th, 2010, 09:33 PM
I was also wondering, because she played extremely spiritless and without any aggressive shots.

However, there was only one not seed player possible to draw for the qualifiers and that was Cornet. By the way, Cornet had some difficulties in her match against Uhlirova, few weeks ago, just beating her 7:6 6:4.

Ivanovic will be an almost not feasable task for Sori in her current form...

Curcubeu
Oct 12th, 2010, 05:59 PM
OK! I just saw her double performance and her returns are more worse than her serve. She hits the balls in every corner of the hall, but not into the opposite field, which is bigger than the singles court. :o

If Ana serves like she did it the last tournaments, Sori won't have any break chance I predict.

At least she won the double match with Klepac against Zakopalova/Lefevre with 12:10 in the final tie break.

Sorana just misses everything : desire, mental strength, fighting spirit, ... ! That's not like that she'll win matches again !
She bloody needs a coach that will give her confidence again because it was painful to see her going down like that against Ivanovic !

She has to learn back everything like a newbie !

Curcubeu
Oct 13th, 2010, 04:47 PM
(wc/7) Ana Ivanovic def. Sorana Cîrstea 6:2 6:0 :tape:

I don't know what to say! It's just awful in any way.

Well, at first she started better than I expected, but the second set... :speakles:

She only made three points and no single one by her own serve! The second set just lasted 13 minutes. :o
After a while, I stopped counting her unforced errors and I can't hear the word OUT anymore.

It's just sad. I could start crying. It's like somebody had abducted the real Sori I've liked one year ago and now only a person with her outward appearance is playing, but I don't know how to say it, it's not the Sori I believed to know. :sobbing:

It's also her reactions. She completely finished playing after the first set, no battle, no will, hitting the balls like a robot through the hall. She even didn't swear at herself like she did when things don't work out. She just swallowed the disgrace, she suffered under during the whole match, on Center Court, among the huge audience and her coaches, her fans. She absolutely didn't feel comfortable with the situation. You could feel it during her whole performance.

After the match, she immediately left the Court, probably for having a cry, disgracing herself in front of the eyes of her friend Ana. I just wanted to do the same.

I pray to God and hope that she will improve and come back, because she would earn it after a long time of mental crisis. I'm sure she needs mental help! I wish she could read what I posted, maybe she will wake up then...

Through good times and bad times, Sori forever. :)

Curcubeu so rite her on her facebook she wasnīt there for some time she wrote an entry 4th Seprember and then a mont after so like 9 days ago and I donīt think she will write again soon.
I like the beginning of the match you could see she is aggressive what she wasnīt against daniilidou and from that she won some good point but the main problem is her serve so low percentage of first serve. And in second it was error by error just  :bigcry:

Yuck. That was even worse than I expected. Sorana is obviously in a really bad place right now as far as her tennis is concerned, but I'm still disappointed that she didn't show more fighting spirit in that second set. It feels like she's gotten so used to losing by now that she's become numb to it.

That's very interesting indeed!

However, this article confirms what I said in my past posts. She has the ability to play on a high level, but she can't focus on her game anymore; too much errors and a lack of self-confidence are the consequences. So, it's typical that she started solidly, but after some easy points for her opponent, Sori gave up to fight, she kind of retired mentally.

I hope that someday, she will be able again to show what she can play on Court.

Curcubeau -- Exactly, Sori started the match well IMO she really was hitting through the ball beautifully and she came out with a lot of beautiful returns and at some point when she got broken she even got Ana pined back in the back court forcing her to vary a little bit more. She made some useless errors at times but she started better than I thought she would.

Once Ana pocketed the first set Sori just completely went away and stopped trying... even when Sori played good to me she never showed that much emotions... sometimes she talks a little bit to herself or nods her head but I've never really seen that much expressions from her so IDK I'm not that surprised of that but I could sense that there really wasn't no flame, no will... to do whatsoever in the second set to turn the outcome of the match... 2010 is a nightmare and I hope Sori somewhat finds something to get her back where she deserves... this is way too much talent wasted at the highest. :help:

On your last post and the article this just confirms what we've been seeing for a good while now... lack of confidence and especially lack of mental fortitude. Sori just folds as soon as she see things aren't going in her favor and that has been displayed once again against Ana... I think she needs to see more of the positive to stay in the match when she plays than just running away like she does...

Ana via facebook:

I'm very happy with how I played but I didn't enjoy this victory as much as normal because Sorana is a very good friend of mine. She definitely didn't do herself justice today, she can play much better, and I hope to see her rise in the rankings. As for me, I'm happy to be in the next round and hope to go much further in this tournament. If I keep playing this way I have a chance.

Very nice and fair words from Ana. I hope she will still support Sori mentally in the future, because she knows what it means to be the rising star and a few months later, hit rock bottom and disgrace yourself in front of your fans. As friends they fit together very well. :)

Sorana :awww: . Okay start, but mentally gave up after the first set.

I know she is capable of much more. She has to relearn how to win, she has to break herself from the habit of accepting defeat. Wins don't come easily Sorana, so even if a few shots, games, or a set doesn't go your way, it's no reason to stop fighting. Being behind doesn't mean you will definitely lose- unless you stop trying. Hopefully she will turn herself around soon.

There is no excuse to how she looked on the court.
professional player can't perform like that.
second set only 3 points? even I can do more than that.

I don't know what is going on, she looks completely detached
the problem for me as a fan is that she doesn't fight, she gives up, she doesn't even looks enough frustrated from this situation.
I actually want to see her crying, cursing, throwing her racket.
to see some emotion, some frustration coming out. but nothing!

I'm sorry but she even looks stupid on the court.
That's what she wants to be? player that trying to make a winner from every position?
I hope this is her last match for the season, She's done
Go home, rest, practice, find a good coach, and start the next season in challengers. she must start all over again.
right now she's not a top 100 player.

What a close and strange match! Only five breaks in over two hours of play and none in the third set till it was 5:5. Then Sori got broken with Rus' first break ball after times and I thought with her current mental state, she will once again gave up, but no!!

She managed the rebreak and in the final tie break, she won with 8:6!

Another positive aspect was her excellent serve statistic with 62% first serve and 76% points made by that. The score after the second serve was also more than 50% :)
But I guess she made a lot of unforced errors, though, what she definitely has to improve! She shouldn't be all happy with this, because Rus is only the number 127 of the world and so she is still far away from her best.

I heard that she is going to practise with Ana and the rest of the Adidas team together in December. Maybe she will gain new confidence there, though I'm not very convinced about the Adidas development team

That's also something I cannot understand! There is only a seeded or not seeded and every not seeded player, no matter if he is the best non seed or the last one, they all have the same precondition for the draw.:(

Do you remember the French Open draw of this year, when Sori was the best non seed player (Rank 35 or something and two player in front of her withdrew) and she had to face the defending champion Kusnetzova in the first round! That was a bad joke, considering that on the other side, a wild card player and a qualifier played against each other. In the end, it was the beginning of Sori's breakdown in the rankings, because she couldn't defend more than 10 points from her last year quaterfinal. :o

I just read that the first seed of the qualification draw and possible third round opponent of Sori on her way into main draw, Voracova, had to withdraw, because she had to play doubles final in Linz today, so that it was not enough time for her to prepare for her first round match against Grönefeld in Luxembourg.

Mona Barthel mostly plays challengers and has some pretty good results on hardcourt:
semi final in 75k Barnstaple (HC indoor) '09 as a qualifier (def Lucie Hradecka)
won 50k Torhout (HC indoor) april 2010 as a qualifier (defeating Stephanie Dubois, Bojana Jovanovski & Rebecca Marino)

And the last couple of week she reached the quarter final of 75k Barnstaple (HC indoor) defeating Mandy Minella in the 1st round) and last week she reached the quarter final 100k+H Torhout again as a quaifier (def Zuzana Ondraskova in the 2nd round and lost to Yanina Wickmayer).

So she has some nice results in challengers, especially the hardcourt indoor tournaments.

A characteristic and pathetic way to end a totally kinky season :o

I can't think of a better one. Now, she must work hard, try everything to improve, look for a fitting coach and especially believe in herself. She is without any self-confidence at the moment, two ok performances were she is fighting and one catastrophe; those aren't her goals for the future. With such performances she will stay somewhere between 80 and 110 in the rankings, but she has much more talent than that.

The problem is that she knows it, but at the moment she doesn't know how to do it better. She is hitting tons of errors, her serve is an absolute disaster: 31% after the first service and only 8% after the second!! :help:
This is awful and again a mental retirement after the first early break, but today not against Ivanovic, but against Barthel who is a good player in hall, but only number 2xx in the rankings. :o

Sometimes I think it is worthless to believe in a come back from her, because it seems that even she doesn't believe in herself anymore. Than I read that she claims in several articles that her game has improved this year ?? :smash:
Does she really think that or what I consider: Does she only say that to reassure the public and a bit herself?
Why has it ended like that? Is there anything she didn't want to say? Does she hide some secrets? She sometimes seems apathetic on the court. I'm wondering at what she is thinking in those moments? Maybe at better times, the quaterfinal of the French Open, her first WTA title in Tashkent or the semi in LA with victories against Wozniacki and Radwanska?

But Sori, that was in the past! Now you are only number 5 of Romanian tennis! Think of the future, look for a coach, learn to serve again, talk with your friend Ana, she knows how to fight back again after a long time of mental crisis. You have all possibilities, but use them to come back.

For example, look at Kaia Kanepi! She was down in the beginning of the season, even you managed to beat her than! But now, she is on the best way back into Top 20. You can reach that, too!

Sori, believe in you! I want you back!

It's slang, as in "she's a very kinky girl", implying her sexual tastes are a bit perverted and extreme. Or the film "Kinky Boots". But it's the first meaning a native speaker thinks of.

I understand it is hard to defend QF at French Open, SF at LA but there are other tournaments where she could have gained these points back.... but she has played badly all the season... there wasnīt a longer period where she played well... all players have some months where they are not in the form but it doesnīt take all the season!

Sori has to change something or a lot... maybe she needs a new coach she needs to start to believe in herself or I donīt know... herself has to know how to play better what to improve to get there where she belongs to....
