Riviera Selections (http://www.itatennis.com/Events/ITANationalChampionships/WomensAllAmerican/2010-Riviera-ITA-Women_s-All-American-Selections.htm)

- Interesting, I don't see Jacqueline Cako playing in singles. I see Nicole Gibbs playing in doubles but not singles.

- I wonder if our Amalgamate made the prequalifying singles alternate list. If she did I hope there are lots of withdrawals so she can play. :yeah:

No Jenny Rabot. :(

And why Vicky Brook? We're used to her getting Wimbledon juniors and wild card play-off wild cards, but does Daddy's promotion mean his influence extends across the Pond now?

Just kidding. Or trying to live up to my nym. She had a good season last year.

Hmm, USC is only sending Andrews and Kinstler, and Cossou isn't playing from CAL.

On the other hand ASU are ALL playing(Cako Debut),
LBS too, Malenovska debut,
Jodoin of FSU too,
from UA Marks, Landsman, McRann(debut), Castany.
St. Mary's also sending their main squad, it seems.

seeds

CAL Jana Juricova, -
CAL Mari Andersson, -
ASU Micaela Hein, -
ASU Kelcy McKenna, -
PAC Jenifer Widjaja, -
AZ Natasha Marks, -
AZ Sarah Landsman, -
SM Alex. Poorta, -

McRann is competing in Flight B,

Cako is only playing doubles with Brycki,

Alawi teamed with Malenovska,

in Flight B Brown/James vs Castany/McRann

in Flight C Simmons / Jeczmionka

So if I DO go there ( a big if), naturally will concentrate on the debutants..

So far..UF, UNLV nice recruit.(Well UGA too, for that matter) But still, can't beat Stanford

UF losing to NC st (I first thought it was Stanford, shirt has a big S on it ) might not be a big deal, since this team may be #3 and
NC st #1

But, if you want to beat Stanford, you MUST win the doubles, since brilliant volleyer Burdette graduated.

And pray to even the singles

Also can see USC and UCLA in action again in the Regional, so didn't pay much attention to their
games  Would be better to watch other region's teams.

And, Novakova beating Dolehide bodes well for BU's future. They also have Nakic, another stellar transfer.

Why I like the twitter feed. My phone is not capable of rendering a javasript / flash live scoreboard. It is more than a year old. it has no problem receiving twitter messages. Even my computers sometimes choke on live scoreboard flash or java sript implementation. Twitter short messages are easy for even an old phone.

Let me clarify. I don't think Ahn will ever live up to her potential at Stanford. I think you will see her end up like Alex Clayton on the men's side. An extremely promising freshman who never produces the expected results (I'm more referencing Clayton as of late). Sure, Ahn will probably always be a strong player in the line up, but I think if she is never more than a solid 3 or 4 then that will be a "dissapointment" in terms of the career she could have had given her junior results. I just don't think she has the desire or drive. This is just my opinion. I hope she proves me wrong.

I agree. For the most part I would say the girls at Stanford tend to plateau or decline once they get there. I would say especially the girls that don't go to a normal high school (i.e. online, etc.) tend to struggle the most with the transition of being a student athlete and not just an athlete.

Stanford has a history of top players that for some reason or other didn't leave up to their hype: Clayton and Hansen of most recent years.

Surprised to see Gibbs taken to a deep third set against Cal's Tayler Davis today. I'm not entirely sure she will be that great of a player either.

She can aim at 6 during this season, equalling Grier, Babos, Miller's record.

I mean, I think she can have an alright career. Steady challenger career, but a WTA career? I would like her to have that, but I really don't know, maybe Zalameda-esque (doubles specialist??). As for Embree, she had wrist surgery after NCAAs, but still participated in the USTA Collegiate Camp, but didn't travel. She played doubles only at All-Americans, so I think she is taking things slow.

These first tournaments are like Spring baseball. As fans we are excited about seeing some action, but sometimes the results may predict a big change, or it could mean nothing by May. Some players spent the summer working 10 hour days at investment banking houses, other players spent the Summer training longer and better, than they will be able to do during the season.

You really don't like her, huh? I can only assume the reasoning behind it is that by making the QF and with her ranking, she has an automatic spot at nationals, so maybe they did it to give one of her teammates a shot at getting there, too? Ahn, Gibbs both goes to NY? Then what's the point of the match thursday  (loser gets ITA WC)
Bartnik (Columbia, host WC)
Cercone(USTA wildcard)
Andersson, Boxx ,Chan, Eichkorn (at large) also goes to NY.

Bartnik/Sanon(host WC), Bartlett/Marable, Ahn/Gibbs(ITA WC) are selected.
Brook/Clark is not playing?

It might not even be played if Gibbs' injury is serious (let's hope not). Anyway the 'excitement' is

considerably abated

Zootennis wonders why Boxx is selected ahead of Remynse.

Because Pac 10 is as it is already over-represented? (9) Well Boxx did beat Will at Riviera..

Remynse didn't play Riviera, lost to Lao at SW R semi.

Ramos, who's also ranked ahead of Boxx, didn't have a spectacular fall season..

And really, Christian/Sanchez should've gone to NY

But UCLA not represented at all doesn't seem fair either

I get that both Ahn and Gibbs go to NY, but also at doubles? They were losing 1-5.

Anyway PAC 10 already is sending 3 teams without them. If not USC, ASU (Hein-Cako) or

UCLA (Remynse-Jones-Dolehide) might've been a better choice. But SDS did beat Dolehide/Jones..

Or maybe from UNC, DUKE (Fahoum/Nze) or ND (Frilling/Mathews)..

No players from UCLA, GT, UGA, ASU are competing at NIIC.

And two Super Powers, STAN and UF, send equally the most players, 4

Barte, Burdette, Ahn, Gibbs

Will, Oyen,Cercone, Janowicz

Teams sending 3 players;

USC ; Sanchez, Ramos, Pulido

NU ; Mosolova, Mushrefova, Hamilton

Alabama; Macfarlane, McLane, Guarachi

Remynse grew up in Michigan and I am sure Colette who is based out of Kalamazoo knows her pretty well and is probably looking out for her!

Cako beat Marks and Jones to advance to Q, only to lose to Sanchez in 3 sets. 3rd set was 5-7 I believe. Sanchez also beat Dolehide later at Semi
Technically Sanchez was already qualified for NIIC (Q at Regional) But she nevertheless advanced to the final
Maybe she wanted Regional 3-peat
