Shahar's section:

Shahar Peer [16] vs. Jelena Kostanic Tosic
Pauline Parmentier vs. Alberta Brianti
Agnes Szavay vs. Sandra Zahlavova
Qualifier vs. Flavia Pennetta [19]

Tsvetana Pironkova [32] vs. Renata Voracova
Polona Hercog vs. Qualifier
Qualifier vs. Ksenia Pervak
Roberta Vinci vs. Venus Williams [3]

Very comfortable first two rounds, could hardly get a harder 17-32 seed for the 3rd :( , and I won't even talk about the 4th, let's all be mad about it if and when she gets there.

USO series (post-Pablo) results have not been good at all :o

A not too impressive 6-4 7-5 win over the veteran Croatian that is trying a comeback from a long injury. Incidentally, their only previous meeting was Shahar first tour final (and title), Pattaya City 2006. Kostanic also lost a final to Smashnova (Helsinki 2003) - the only player to meet both our two best ever players in finals :)
Parmentier is next.

[I can't believe there's a Grand Slam tournament going on and I'm the only one writing here :o  :help: ]

Looking at the statistics of the match and the general score, it's hard to reach any conclusion but that she is a underdog to get past the third round. I wonder, has there been any news on her search for a new coach?

Round 2: 6-2 6-3 (again taking the last four games) over Parmentier.
Now the real tournament begins, and Pennetta lost the same amount of games against a tougher opponent (Szavay).

I don't know about other people but I was pretty anxious about her performance after everything that happened at the USO series this year.
I didn't want to get all hopeful just to watch her get crushed,
glad she defended her points from last year.
I actually think she's got a fair chance against pennetta.

Round 3: a straight-set win over Pennetta, 6-4 6-4 :D (was 6-4 4-0 then Pennetta leveled only for Shahar to win the final two games)
Easily her best win of this hard court season.

Next up Venus. H2H 5-0, three of them this year, all straight sets and none of the 10 had even gone to 5-5 :help:
Well, she already exceeded expectations. Maybe she'll somehow manage to take a set and then who knows  Not likely though...

I'm such a bad fan. Forgive me Shahar/Shahar Forum.

Great win for Shahar. Really glad she was able to pull this one out. I hope this time she will test Venus as much as possible. If there's anywhere she'll be pumped, it's at the USO. Just please no beatdown. :o

Kadima Shahar! :worship:

Hey guys, I'm back! USA and Shahar :hearts:
Seems like Shahar had not so good US Open Series (not disaster either)

Against Tosic Shahar was a bit nervous, probably a combination of first round nerves and me being in the crowd :p
I got my tennis hat a little signature at the front :o :D
I didn't have the time to redirect her to the forum though..

Welcome back! :)
Lucky you ;) I barely visited GM lately (and having done that over the last couple of days, it was a wise choice not to... :tape: ) so I had no idea you were going.
Did you talk to her other than getting a sig? Any photos? (and by that I mean real ones, not Woz-Open type ones :p)

Thanks :D

Don't worry about noticing, I didn't really post about it much.
No I didn't talk to her, there were so many other fans around her, I don't think she even heard me saying good luck in the next round
It was hebrew from all around anyway. The atmosphere was really fun when it was tight at the end of the first set, and every good point Shahar won there was a huge roar from the crowd :p

I also saw WTAWorld stars and personal faves like Elena, Vika and Marion, each for a few games. I was shocked to hear about Vika fainting later, she looked so good and strong
US Open is such an incredible complex, I could just walk outside it and visit stuff for a whole day..

No pictures sorry, There was no point taking as it was in bad quality because of the sun..
From the other open side of the court would have been better.

I really really REALLY hope Shahar makes this competitive today. I'm not expecting a win though I'd be estatic if she did. But I'd really like her to push Venus further then she's ever done. I'm talking like some 7-5/7-6 sets or hell, take her to 3. Just make it a good match. USO crowd is one of the best for Shahar so hopefully she'll get pumped more then she ever has and we know what happens when she's feeling good. :) Kadima Shahar.

from Matt Cronin's picks (http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/articles/2010-09-05/201009041283644366277.html):

VENUS WILLIAMS vs. SHAHAR PEER

Don't think that picking Venus Williams over Shahar Peer is an easy selection, because I have not been that impressed by Venus's level at the tournament. However, now that she's played three matches after having zero in between Wimbledon and the Open, I'm sensing that she's going to beginning to play cleaner. She absolutely cannot be as erratic as she was against Mandy Minella, when in the first set, there wasn't a shot she could count on. Peer is a much more solid player, moves well, can whack it off the ground and has done a good job making herself relevant Top 20 player again. I expect this to go three and I also expect Venus to be on the ropes in the third. If this were played outside of the US, I'd pick Peer on form, but I'll take the two-time US Open champion's home court advantage and see Venus squeaking through.

Although Shahar lost to Venus by a 7-6 6-3 score, I was very encouraged by her performance. She showed that she could raise her standard of performance to match that of previously dominating competitor like Venus Williams. 2011 could be a very interesting year.

Yes it was quite a surprising preview Shir quoted there.
Too bad for not taking advantage of the two successive breaks in the opening set - this is not something that happens often to Venus at a slam.
Good effort, but before looking ahead to next year and despite of this good tournament, the coach question still has to be resolved (maybe the one that accompanied her here will get the job?).

Well I got what I asked for, a 7-6 set. Next time maybe we'll work on winning one Shahar. :) Good job on making it this far. Congrats Venus.

I'm proud she made it a competitive match, the crowd was really into it. Sure, she missed out on some chances but that's a Shahar match for ya.
