What do you think will be Caroline's Ranking after the US Open?

She can just be No. 1 if she wins the Titles in Canada, New Haven and US Open!

Its unlikely but possible! :wavey:

I think she'll still be #2

Realistic worst case, she'll drop to ... 5 .. but there's no more important tournaments before YEC and she's got about zero to defend between USO and YEC, so should move back up again going into YEC .. Not that it really matters, but of course marginally better to be in the 1-4 group than the 5-8 for Tokyo and Beijing. I don't know if they've change format in this years YEC, last year 1 and 2 were put in different robin groups and rest was a simple non seeded draw.

Points to defend

New Haven 475.

US Open 1400.

Canada win will give her 900 points.
A New Haven title is only worth 470 points, not 475.

475 was just from memory, 5 fra eller til gør nok ikke meget i det store regnskab... ;)

120 points now in New Haven.

Caro would need a quarterfinal in Tokyo in order to gain points in the YEC race. Any win/s in Beijing gain points in the YEC race as it's a mandatory tournament that you get stuck with 5 points if you don't win a match.

Updated ranking of today:

2 Caroline Wozniacki DEN 6185

If I'm not mistaken, then Caro will have 6065 points if she loses today:

6410 -470 +125 = 6065

The 125 points are from Rome or Dubai. The 120 points she has earned at New Haven this year will not be included as this is not one of the 16 best tournaments. (See this (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?p=18378855#post18378855) post).

Hi Protoss.. I don't follow you here. Why would she need a QF in Tokyo in order to gain points for YEC race?

Edit:

In 3 tournaments so far this year: Sydney, Stuttgart and Eastbourne, Caro picked up just 1 WTA ranking. Madrid was 80; Dubai/Warsaw/Rome/Cincy 120-125 WTA points.

Incl Montreal she's played 17 tournaments. NH will be 18, USO 19. Madrid is a mandatory, so points will stay, yes? .. So post USO lowest points scored would be the 120-125 WTA for the rolling 52 and YEC race, which would indeed require a Tokyo QF to improve on 120. Beijing is a mandatory.

I follow you now. Cheers Protoss. :)

I saw on TBE's Updated Rankings, I did not think he had added the 125... Meelis posted this...

Caro would have 7010 points after winning all three, Serena will have 6995 after US Open.

How many possible points will she have if she wins this week's tournament?

I'm not Protoss, but I'll reply anyway: Because anything less than a QF in Tokyo will at most give 125 points (points which are of no use because Wozniacki has better or at least as good tournaments to use instead).

If Caro wins New Haven, then she'll have 6410 points (just as she has on the present rankings). If she wins US Open, you can add 2000 poins, but remember to subtract the 1400 she got last year:

6410 +2000 -1400 = 7010 points

Canada 900p (Winner!)

New Haven 470p (Winner!)

So US Open? :) (A R16 loss I don't think gets her lower than 5-6)

Thanks Jorn ... Remeber all those 'I cannot wait until her USO points come off and she drops to 999999999 in the ranking', we've seen since USO last year?

and now the girl has already qualified for the YEC .. BEFORE the Open ...

Caro and Jankovic still in the race for No. 1. Now 8 players can still overtake Caro in the rankings.

Unfortunately the way she is looking she will probably be #1 by winning the U.S Open. The only hopes to stop this I think are Clijsters and Schiavone.

I have woted No.1, I'm a fan and don't see any signs of form stagnation so yes, she is still in there. ;)

With JJ losing 3R and Caro advancing our girl is sure to still be ahead of her after USO.

Hehe, Same here :) , except I voted number 2 because after a quick calculation i got the numbers wrong, and assumed no 2 was the highest spot she could reach.

*Beams positive vibes towards new York for Monday*

Elena and Sammy now plays, so only 5 can possible get better Ranking, not that Caro will drop 5 spots.

Worst case scenaria now; Vera champ, Venus RUP and Caro is ranked #4.
Even if Caro loses SF she'll be ranked #2 if Kim champ.

Well, Caro stays ahead of Venus. If Vera becomes champ she's #2 and Caro is #3. If Kim re-champs Caro is still #2.

I don't think even some Caro fans had believed she may only drop one spot, 5 weeks ago... Kom an Kim ;)
