Welcome to San Diego! The Hardcourt season continues in the USA! Mirjana Lucic is playing better and better, proving to be dominant in all surfaces! Hantuchova is in bad phase but it is still number one! Promise of good tournament here! Good Luck for all! :hearts:
Hy guys! This week Dinara and me will blog from San Diego and we will try to tell you everything that is happening here. Hope you will have fun reading our blogs.
So, yesterday I have come in San Diego. I have pretty bad season after winning Hopman Cup and final of Australian Open. In Standford I finally had few wins in a row so it is very important for my confidence. There I lost in the semifinals to Mirjana, my doubles partner. It was very close 3 sets match. The draw for this tournament is already out and I have so difficult section with the first seed in it. I play Polona Hercog in the first round. It will be so difficult because she is very talented player and she has improved a lot this season. I think it is the worst round 1 opponent I could get to play against it. Also, we are good friends. We were supossed to do the trainig session today but after we saw we are playing against each other we canceled it. Now I will go with Makiri.
Oh, and the city is amazing. I really like it. Everything is just great. The city is so beatiful, people are nice and the food is great. I really enjoy to be on this tournament.
Venus Williams def. Nicole Vaidisova
6-7(4)* 7-5 7-6(8)
What a amazing match :worship: Venus finally back to win one match :cheer:
Nicole  Second week in a row with hard lose in R1 :sobbing:
Yesterday I played match against Polona Hercog in Round 1 and I lost. It was very close, 7-6 7-5. Well, I had my opportunites in both sets but just couldn't find the way to close out any of that sets. I'm a little dissapoint becuase last week I was playing good so I hope I can play good here too. Well, my slump is obvious and maybe I will take a longer pause soon because I need a rest. I'm doing my best but it is obviously not enough. I'm not happy with just few wins here and there so maybe I will take a long pause soon if things don't start to be better. Anyway, after match I wactched my best friend on the tour, Maria Kirlenko. I'm happy she won! Now we will go to the training.
Well, alrady today after lunch I'm traveling to my next tournament, Cincinatti. Hope for better game and results because I really don't have a lot of motivation anymore. Thank you for reading my blog guys.

Sorry I havent sent points lately. Im busy with classes :(
It's another disappointing week for #10 Dinara Safina, unseeded this week at the Mercury Insurance Open. After her 6-4, 7-5 loss to Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak, Dinara reached out to her fans.
"Hi all, I lost my match to Aleksandra today in straight sets. This is one of many early rounds exits for me the past few tournaments and I know I must change up my tactics, train harder, and hopefully come back stronger before the US Open. I wish to do well at the last grand slam of the year, especially because I have never done well at slams before.
My brother Marat performed very well last week at Legg Mason in Washington last week, reaching the finals, and this has motivated me greatly. The both of us have not been playing at our best lately, and I have especially struggled on serve, as you can see today. I gave up crucial breaks late in the first set and second set which ultimately led to my loss.
Many of you must be wondering if any of this has to do with my back injury. I have changed up my serving motion a little bit, tossing the ball farther behind my back and arching my serves in, to reduce the stress on my back. This is good in terms of dealing with the tension, but not so good as my first serves can no longer be considered weapons to start the rallies. I will be working further on improving my motion with my team.
Lastly, I'd like to announce that I will be a guest blogger for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour at San Diego for the rest of the week. Although I lost today, I'm looking forward to seeing my tour friends play out the rest of the matches and updating you all, good luck to the remaining players!"

Polona won first match on Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego!
No. 9 on NTT, Slovene Polona Hercog won her first round match in San Diego. Before match she was again a little angry because of bad draw (previous week she draw Mirjana Lucic in first round which later won tournament in Stanford) but this time she won her »bad luck draw« match in first round. She played against another Croatian, no. 6 seed Ajla Tomljanovic and won 7-6(5), 7-5. »Yes, it looks I'm very unlucky with draws latelly. Last week against Lucic, this week against Tomljanovic in first round. I just have to be one place higher on ranking to be seeded and now two times in a row I draw 2 of the best players on NTT Tour. It's unfortunate that I had to outsed Ajla because she is such a nice girl but if I want to raise up my ranking I need that kind of victories.« Polona said after her third victory against young Croatian (Polona didn't lose match against her yet).
In second round she is going to play against another »hot« player at moment - Wimbledon champion Jie Zheng from China which advanced into second round after incredible fight – saved MPs – deafeated Canadian player Heidi El Tabakh in three sets – 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-5. »Yes, my draw in second round couldn't be thougher too. We all know Jie is favorite in this match but if my memory is right I defeated her in our previous matches and I don't see a reason why I can't do this again.« optimistically finished Hercog.

S2 Roland Garros SF Lucic 6-1 7-5
Maria Sharapova vs Aravane Rezai (0-0)
Anna Kournikova vs Serena Williams (0-0)
After her 6-4, 7-5 loss to Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak, Dinara is staying on site at the Mercury Insurance Open to guest-blog for the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour.
"Hi all, 8 second round matches were played at San Diego today. I had the opportunity to watch the four seeds play today and here are some of my thoughts on the matches.
Venus Williams def. Daniela Hantuchova 6-2 7-5
Venus has struggled with consistency and world #1 Daniela has looked less than convincing especially as of late. The two go into the match with an even H2H, with Venus winning their last match at Stuttgart 6-2 in the third. Daniela was making a lot of unforced errors today, especially off the backhand wing. Venus also attacked her second serve, often stepping well into the baseline. Daniela held on until 5-5 in the second set, but a double fault in the crucial 11th game gave Venus the final break to secure the win.
Anna Kournikova def. Serena Williams 0-6 6-3 6-4
Anna K arrived on tour not long ago, but she arrived with a bang, continuously upsetting seeded players at tournaments (I lost to her at Roland Garros). Serena came out firing, hitting winners left and right and snatching the first set 6-0 in just 26 minutes. Anna upped her game second set though, just as she did yesterday, and managed to break Serena once more in each set to take the match in three. Serena admitted in her post-match interview that she did not manage to keep up her level of play after the first set, leading to her loss.
Mirjana Lucic def. Victoria Azarenka 6-1 7-6(5)
The hottest player on tour right now is undoubtedly Miki, who has won multiple titles in the past few months, including Roland Garros. This has moved her rankings up to #3. She faced tough competition in Vika today, but her penetrating forehands and consistency broke down Vika's game. There were some inevitable screaming and racquet smashing. Vika saw a chance to level the match after breaking Miki for a 5-4 lead in the second set, but the Croatian held her ground, broke right back, and won in a tight tiebreak. She is, in my opinion, the favourite to win the title.
Maria Sharapova def. Aravane Rezai 6-4 6-4
Maria struggled earlier in the season, having difficulty putting back-to-back matches together, but seems to have since recovered. She defeated Aravane routinely today without much difficulty, as her serve percentage stayed above 70% and only double faulted twice. Aravane simply had no answers for Maria's solid play, and praised the Russian for mixing it up and coming to the net more times than she expected in her post-match interview."

Polona totally outplayed in second round!
Slovene Polona Hercog was totally without any chance to upset Wimbledon champion, Jie Zheng in second round of Mercury Insurance Open in San Diego. She won only 5 games and lost 6-3, 6-2. »What to say? Of course I'm disappointed but nothing didn't work today for me. I couldn't serve my first services in, did so many double faults and unforced errors. I didn't have chance to win this match. On other side Jie played really amazing and hited winners from all sides. She also have great movement on court and so even my dropshots wasn't really succesfull today All what I can say – it's that I congrats to Jie and wish her good luck in next round. If she is going to play like today I'm sure that she will be hardly stopped by any player.« Polona analyzed her match against Chinese player.
Zheng will play against Venus Williams in quarterfinal which outsed number 1 on world Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets. Polona is allready on her way in Cincinatti where she is going to practise before Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open. »Yes, I need to improve my backhand. I worked hard in previous weeks on it but backhand is still my weakness. With my coach we are also going to prepare some new tactic before US Open. I really want good result there and I will do everything for it.« Polona told about her plans.

Great win Zheng!! :bigclap: The Tie Break of first set was decisive! Ivanovic was playing very well until she have a set point and misses it. In the second set, Zheng took advantage of Ivanovic's error's
Third final for Zheng :cheer: Ivanovic
Maria Kirilenko def. Maria Sharapova

What a match  Sharapova got better and won the first set but Kirilenko fighter and easily won the second and opened 4-0 in the third set. This time was Sharapova able to comeback but in the last game of the match, Sharapova had no challengers and a ball clearly out for everyone, except for the judge, gave the win to Kirilenko
CT affect the result  Sharapova had first CT
