These young players have zero class and clutchness. Sharapova is playing horrible, Pavyluchenkova has all the chances in the world. 15-40 twice and obviously she fails to convert with three UEs thrown in and then she gifts a game to Sharapova with THREE double faults.:lol:

Pavyluchenkova is just too fat. She needs to get in better shape. One semi decent ball caught her off guard and the point is over. And wtf is it with her return. Sharapova is prone to risk more and DF when you put some pressure on her 2nd serve and she is standing three metres behind the baseline.

I don't really agree with your analysis, simply because tennis strategy can be to wrong foot or surprise your opponent. Earlier today, Kim was caught off guard on shots, same with Ana. It is the game. In any case, I think Pavs is fit, even with a bit of a stomach, because she can play for hours in boiling hot sun. Also, she seems faster than Maria tonight, so...of course, we all know Maria is slow, so that might not be a good marker. What I'm seeing instead, after the first four games, Nastya, suddenly looked nervous and lacking in confidence about what to do. She obviously should be more aggressive. I hope she will be in the next set.

No itīs not about a well placed ball against the foot, any ball that doesnīt go where she expects it, but is still very well in her reach to play it well, is an error or ends up very short, and that is because she is not in the best shape. This is like Usain Bolt running 100 metres in 9.90 seconds with a beer gut. You know itīs still faster than most people alive, but itīs simply not the best he can be, and I havenīt seen Pavlyuchenkmova thrive for that. Her body looks soft, and not in a Kleybanova way, who still looks fairly well-shaped.

She did the same against Wickmayer. Wickmayer could have thrown in an underhand slice and she wouldnīt have gotten there. It is ridiculous, especially since you can challenge Mariaīs serve, if you move up. Maria automatically wants to play it extra deep or punish you with a hard serve. Itīs no surprise Maria has only one DF in this match.

Both semis should be played during the day OR the final should be a night match. But every US event does this (also the Australian Open can have some pretty horrible scheduling too) In fact I just don't really like night matches.

Pavyluchenkova is trying just hard enough not to win. I donīt even think itīs a case of Maria raising her game to stay slightly above Pavyluchenkova, itīs more like Pavyluchenkova just playing good enough not to win. That first set was a typical 1-6 Sharapova errorfest, but nobody told Pavly she was supposed to win the set.

Pavlyuchenkova is like a deer in the headlights. She is mentally tough against crap, but that match today, is a match that Wozniacki would have never lost and that is the reason Woz is #2 and Pav is # whatever. Itīs not because she is a much better player, but if somebody is as off as Maria today Woz usually wins.

I think you're right when it comes to facing big players, Nastya can struggle.

But for the most part I'd say she actually wins the majority of her 3 set tough battle/winning ugly matches. I mean eg. Vesnina and Groth at Istanbul, she was right out of both those matches... Wicky and Peer here in Cincy. I'd say she's pretty good at being gutsy.

But not so much today (Yet) Maria could yet pull a Bartoli and drop her level when serving for it... (and I fear what depth she can drop to if she drops from this one)

Well I donīt consider Vesnina or Groth top players (yet). Thatīs why I said she is mentally tough against weaker players, but today, if she played like she did in the 3rd set against Wickmayver, she wins this match 6-3 6-3. Maria was that bad today, that she should have taken advantage.

But I could equally say that if Maria played like she did against Bartoli yesterday she would have won 6-2 6-2 ;)

Anyway I was mostly agreeing with you. I do think Pav struggles against bigger names sometimes. I just don't think she's always mentally weak.

If Maria played like she did agianst Bartoli four games are a gracious assumption. :tape:

But like I said Iīm kinda happy Pavlyuchenkova didnīt have that big breakthrough yet, because maybe at some point sheīll have a Davenport moment of enlightenment, get her butt in 100% shape and everything will fall into place. Or she wonīt and be Kleybanova for the rest of her career.
