:yippee: EL: http://www.rogerscup.com/women/english/playerList.php

Reasons why Mashy should at least reach the final here:
1. Getting a 8-12 seed for the US Open.
2. Not falling down the rankings.
3. To get revenge on Safarova and Safina.

P_P, You could start by listing all the reasons she should withdraw from Montreal...

Or, at least, what the conditions would be for her to come up with a reason to withdraw...

Or, you could list popular Montrealian, a French dialect, words of encouragement...

Or, you could just do something lame like doing nothing at all...

Well it is Friday the Thirteenth.

Now, have a peanutbutter sandwich, get a Coke, flex your fingers and start searching for interesting stuff. Like why the hell do they speak Montrealian in Quebec Province (maybe it should be Quebecian? I took a French exchange student to the World's Fair in Montreal and she got physically sick listening to them speak. We were forced to spend a lot of time in the hotel room - we didn't talk at all!).

Tbh it would be a shame if she didn't go deep in Montreal too looking at this draw. :( She'll have a week to get her energy back before the USO starts so I hope she tries her best to accumulate as many points here as possible. Hopefully.

But she's going to be bloody exhausted from that Cincinnati mess of a schedule. It will be a test to see if she can get anywhere here.
I don't know WHY she went to Cinci. It's the Rogers Cup points she needs to defend, and now she'll have to travel after 6 matches in six days, get used to the new court and play another set of matches. She could have got far more points here from less work than in Cincinnati

I know we fans are worried that she might run out of gas in the next tourney. But I'm tired of hearing that she's tired, she's exhausted...She's a pro tennis player for God's sake. Some other players play 3 consucutive weeks and they are still doing fine. Plus, after her comeback last year she said that shes feeling physically much better than before the injury. Maria knows what to do if she feels exhausted.
She didn't play San Diego so it was the right decision to play Cincy. And the final apperance already proved it.
I don't think Maria gives a damn about the ranking as we fans do. As long as shes winning the ranking will take care of itself.

I agree about the part you said that she's a professional athlete. She's not like us ( ). She should be able to play tournaments back-to-back. I'd like to think that. But she just really can't, from what we've seen from her. She only played a few matches til' the final in Stanford and she said she "ran out of gas". That was only one tournament.

She went to Cinci because she needed the match play, because she needed the points and because the WTA nudged her decision. She is in Cinci, she's getting the match play, she's earning points and the WTA is probably pleased. Three "birds", one "stone". The girl is awesome, smart too.

And on top of it all, she is probably quite pleased with how well she is doing physically, too. Getting hardened is easier because she put in the work to be very fit, otherwise. Did I mention that the girl is awesome?

Now that she has covered her 2009 USOS points, she is playing for glory, titles, advancing on the field and a better Seed in the USO. That's the target, keep your eye on it. Did I mention the girl was smart?

I don't think Maria will step back here.I think she knows she has a chance to beat the Reigning US open Champion and I think she will give it all. After all she already defended her points from last year.

She really has a chance to move up the rankings with this win.And Making the semis in Montreal doesn't seem so impossible.

In the end during these series we saw a different Maria. Not the one who would give up and lose to crap players. But a player who seeks revenge and wants to win.Thats the most I'm happy about.Other things are just a bonus!

Some said "other players play several tournaments...". The playing time is important, not the number of appearances. Small example:
- Kim's playing time in Cincinnati: 272 minutes
- Maria's playing time in Cincinnati: 539 minutes
(before the final of course).

Well if her ankle's fine then she should go as far as possible. The schedule will eventually ruin it for her though, unless she hardly drops a set which I doubt since she's turning into a choker lately.

870 total 2009 USO Series Ranking Points to defend

As I understand it, USO Seeds will be based on the Aug 23rd Rankings. I want Pova to be in the 9-12 Seed Group, which faces Seed Group 5-8 in Round 4. To do this Pova must gain Ranking Points against the field. If she remains in the 13-16 Seed Group she will face Seed Group 1-4 in Round 4. Pova's Ranking Points on Aug 23rd is calculated in this manner:

2010 USOS starting points minus 2009 USOS points earned plus 2010 USOS points earned.

Currently, this equals: 3260 - 870 + 940 = 3330. Approx USO Rank = #15.

so if 2010 is a wash as far as rankings, she could rack up an amazing amount of points next year at the beginning of the year if she keeps playing at this level. Especially with no points to defend...right?

If October-November-December of 2008 are any guide, brace yourself for obfuscation and misleading statements about her medical condition.

Hope for pictures of her practicing---if they are not there----IT WILL BE A BAD SIGN.

After about ten pages of recycled photos and several people asking why there were no pictures of Maria practicing, we still had not been told about Australia on January 9, 2009.

yup, nowadays she is like a milked cow for WTA...they could care less about her sport results as long as she still brings revenue for them...Greedy bastards - all of them. There is one thing you gotta love about ITF and slams - they are more or less fair to all players scheduling wise.
