jirobkk, what is with the updated qualifying singles draw?
Main Draw changes I can follow. Judging by the amendments to the main draw, Elena Bovina has withdrawn and a wildcard has been forgone to let another next in fill the place. So Bovina/WC out and Talaja and Cervanova get in. Thats self explanatory
The Qualifying draw though doesnt make sense for starters Molik isnt ranked 61? try 101!
Commitments for qualifying dont get revised in ranking order. Those originally in the qualifying draw are committed regardless of any drop in ranking.
So players like Hsieh, Vaskova and Dominikovic that had direct entry to qualifying before still have acceptance into the qualifying draw unless they have withdrawn.
Players like Morigami who have risen in ranking are actually on the next in list!!
Judging by the updated qualifying list you have posted a draw that has only 25 players in the qualifying draw of which two are wildcards?? Where as before you had posted a qualifying draw with 27 players confirmed!
Further it appears Magda Grybowska, Sandara Kleinova, Zuzana Ondraskova, Su-Wei Hsieh, Alena Vaskova and Evie Dominikovic have suddenly been removed? I mean its possible a couple withdrew, but judging by the rankings posted I think its a mistake!
Also now in the Qualifying draw are Iveta Benesova, Maria Sanchez Lorenzo, Akiko Morigami, Anastassia Rodionova, Renata Voracova and Marie-Eve Pelletier, mostly cos they have all had ranking rises, not because they initially made the cut off!
Can someone find a more accurate commitment list???

News from local newspaper
Russia's Tatiana Panova, ranked 21st in the world, has been named top seed in the Volvo Women's Tennis Open tournament which takes place on November 2-10 at the Dusit Resort, Pattaya.
Thai star Tamarine Tanasugarn is seeded fourth.
Panova's top seeding follows the withdrawal of defending champion Patti Schnyder of Switzerland.
Other seeds include Greece's Eleni Danillidou (2), Japan's Ai Sugiyama (3) and Asian Games gold medallist, Iroda Tulyaganova (5).
Another likely hot contender is 18-year-old Russian Vera Zvonareva (7), the world No 52, who took Serena Williams to 3 sets in the French Open.

Volvo Women’s Open tennis attracts strong entry list
The 14th Volvo Women’s Open, professional tennis tournament, with prize money of US$110,000 will be held at the Dusit Resort, Pattaya from the 2 – 10 November 2002.
The Volvo Women’s Open is part of the Sanex-WTA World Tour, which comprises of 66 tournaments in 33 countries. The tournament, which is the last stop on the tour, is the longest running professional women’s tennis tournament in Asia, outside of Japan.
This year the tournament has once again attracted a very strong field of entries, the list of players is of a similar quality to other Sanex-WTA tournaments in Asia which offer higher levels of prize money.
The entry list includes all the top Asian players Ai Sugiyama of Japan, Asian Games gold medallist Iroda Tulyaganova of Uzbekistan, Angelique Widjaja of Indonesia and Yoon Jeong Cho of Korea. Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn completes the quintet of top Asian players. Of the Asian players Ai Sugiyama is top ranked at no 25, followed by Tamarine who is ranked 32. In addition to the top Asian players, the tournament entry list includes last year’s winner Patty Schnyder a late entry who is ranked no 19 and a quartet of Russian players led by Tatiana Panova, who is enjoying her best year to date, she has risen to number 21 in the world. Supporting her will be the latest crop of Russian sensations to hit the tennis scene such as Vera Zvonareva, Alina Jidkova, and Lina Krasnoroutskaya.
Amongst other contenders for the crown are Greece’s Eleni Danilidou, who has risen to no 24 in the world and Slovakia’s Henrietta Nagyova, who was runner-up last year. The tournament qualifying rounds are played from the 2 – 4 November, with the main draw running from the 4 – 10 November. The singles final on Sunday 10 November will be televised “ live” on TV channel 9. Admission is free for the qualifying rounds through till the quarter-finals on Friday 8 November. Tickets are available at 200 baht and 300 baht for the semi-finals and finals on the 9 – 10 November.
In addition to the tennis tournament, Volvo will also organise a motor rally from Bangkok on 9 November and a mountain bike race with the start/finish at the Dusit Resort, Pattaya on 10 November. The Volvo Women’s Open is supported Kuwait Petroleum (Q8), the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mega-Universal, Sanex ,Wilson, Volvo Leasing, Prince and Traffic Corner. The tournament is sanctioned by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand (LTAT).

It is not very crowded for the semis either. Only for the final (at least last year). Not much crowd also for the week-end of the qualies.
I have seen more crowd in Vietnam for the challenger events (with paying entry) :) .
I guess that the tourney has besides enough sponsors (with the resort in particular) to justify this decision.

Patty and Ai will skip this tournament as they will participate in Championship (Patty in single, Ai in double with Fujiwara). Wynne will also go to LA because her point (with partner Janet Lee) is enough for that tournament after the withdrawal of Hingis/Anna Kournikova. Then, Tammy could be No. 2 seeded after Eleni. But the matches will remain tough.
