Based on these vids I think JJ's actually looks nicest. Lena's looks good too, very textbook. Serena's too. :hatoff:

Caro's follow-through. :tape: and Venus' whole stroke. :|

Serena's and Jelena's are definitely the best-looking ones. Dementieva's rotation and weight transferrance really is incredible and Venus shortens her swing so much off the return.

Very very good initiative Flameon even if it misses some other major FHs :yeah: IMO Kim has the cleanest strike of all but her follow through elbow high I don't like.

Wozniacki has 0 racket head speed... 0 shoulder turn... little weight transfer, Dementieva has a textbook modern FH even if in my taste she rotates a little too much with her body and not enough with her upper body, she doesn't have much racket head speed but her set up balance before and after the shot, it really looks so consistent. :hearts:

Jankovic it's hard to judge compared to the other FHs since it's a lasso... Li Na's follow through, Vee's overall motion. :tape: Where's Lindsay's the most fluid striking I've ever seen in the girls on that side.

serena and lena have the best ones
the angle for kim's is bad, but i'd put her up there too
venus is hitting a return so it's probably not the best clip
the rest look pretty terrible (especially the pushers)

Exemplary technique from Serena.

Her preperation is textbook, and look at the weight moving forward. That left leg is giving her such leverage and forward momentum.

Venus's right arm extends probably back a little longer than it should. She has to catch up quicker and has to hurry her follow-through quicker. Much improved from 4-5 years ago, where she was SO late moving the racquet onto the ball.

Dementieva has so much racquet-head speed. Is truly a tennis machine.

The body weight transfer on Serena's FH in that particular video is so good, although she doesnt have as much wrist action as Dementieva's (which helps her get her racket-head speed).

That forehand recording of Elena's is actually a bit of a miss hit I would say... She hits the frame and she doesn't get crisp contact on that particular forehand... But you can still see the stroke pattern (pre-follow through racket glitch)...

Also It's hard to judge too because some players ...Like Elena... Seem to be more on the defensive during the rally of recording, where as others are stepping into the ball more... I.e Serena or Jankovic...

:)

The first few shots of this video are some good Slow-Mo examples of Lena Forehand's ... (Actually this whole video is all forehands...)

That vid was shot last year. It's hardly gotten better since then. :tape: If you watch the Sharapova VS Woz match from Doha 2008 (), her FH has improved a lot since then, but not really since 2009.

Love Serena's stroke.

Serena takes it so early and out in front, really gets her weight into it. Pure aggression, not the best technique though.

Jankovic's looks fluid (just like the rest of her game) but it's no wonder that it's ineffective. She lets the ball play her before she hits it.

Elena's is also quite athletic. Her racquet head speed is insane. So odd that it's flat and yet so consistent.

Venus and Caro = MESS :help:

Out of those videos Frannie has the most textbook wrist-snapping action. She times it the best. It's what generates a lot of spin and adds power to Frannie's smaller frame.
Most of the others seem to be late with the wrist snap. The racket head hasn't reached full speed at the time of contact. Caro and Elena hit with little wrist action.

And Serena?
 I tought I would have gotten away not analyzing Serena's but loos like there are Serena angels observing my moves anyways how is it easy to say that Serena has a great FH whereas she isn't on the move these are classic FH where almost all pros wouldn't look weird... Someone who doesn't Serena would be amazed and get carried away but let's put those on the run or when she has to adjust more to the shot and we'll have a discussion ! :wavey:

Great video, I actually prefer this one than the previous... She really has a great overall forehand motion, technique and that reminds a lot of Dabydenko who has that same motion but I don't get why she doesn't have a lot more power from that side.

Wow those are some ugly looking forehands. The one exception being Dementieva. The rest are just outdated technique with 'interesting' followthroughs.

Serena's preparation is great... until she steps forward into her shot open stance with her right foot (See the right foot on the baseline with the left foot behind it. I'll go on later about why that's not the preferred way to go)...
So I think ok, the resulting shot has to be cross court, but she goes up the line. Given her body position due to stepping forward with the improper foot, she has to guide the forehand up the line. This is because it is extremely difficult to control a 'whippy' forehand with more racquet head speed from this position.

If you can step forward into an open stance shot with your right foot, you have PLENTY of time to step in with your left foot. Stepping forward with your right is indicative of lazy footwork.
When you step forward with your left foot, your body is aligned optimally to move towards the ball and transfer your weight efficiently.

Notice that when you hit the ball off your right foot as the back foot just like in Dementieva's video, your body is still aligned in this manner. In this instance, you rely more on a rotational energy to drive the ball.

As for Venus, not sure why she has such a long backswing for a return of serve  Her body positioning during the stroke is one of a neutral return but her swing is one of an aggressive one.

JJ :help:
Caro :help::help:

Not enough of Kim's vid to really say but her contact point is too far back which is why her elbow has to come up like that, to compensate for the lack of space. (Try it for yourself and see)

Not sure wth Vera was doing but it was fug. Sorry to her fans just being honest.

In all this, realise that I am not disparaging the players or even their technique (well maybe Venus lol). Just these specific slow-mos. Serena for instance, has better slow mos on youtube. This one video just displays why people say her game is ugly and her footwork is wanting.

Also keep in mind that all these players incorporate the basic tenets of footwork and swing into their strokes and that their strokes are effective for them. They all have their body weight moving forward into the shot (some better than others) and all have excellent preparation. I'm not fond of the over-the-head racquet take back though.

I bet this video would be much prettier with backhands.

What's so funny? I said "best" - not "best looking". She is one of few women who doesn't hate the concept of hitting the ball heavy with topspin unlike 99% of other baseliners on WTA. I can't get tired of her FH. Stosur also, but she wasn't on the list, so...

I guess you were on holiday during Wimbledon?

Don't see your point. Even Federer's FH breaks down occasionally and he is considered to have best FH of all time. Obviously I am talking about the times when all players are "on" and not hitting everything wide, long or into the net. Otherwise you could watch 2010 RG and say Stosur's FH isn't that great since she made so many errors with it and that just isn't true.

Love these videos, again.

JJ's FH is :help: in this video. Also, they could have picked a much better one for Dementieva.

Looking back through all these, I really have to say Serena's is the best--simple, but effective. Not too convoluted. Wish they'd show some footwork in the video, though, she looks planted in like a statue (must have been a R1 match ;))
