I *want* Dementieva to win. She has the game and talent, but unfortunately I don't see it happening. Dementieva with Sharapova's mental toughness would win many slams.

Too soon to make a poll. We know nothing about ANY of the top player's hard court form yet except Venus losing to a use uterus.

I guess it's hard to bet against Serena.

Strangely enough, last night I had a dream about the US Open this year and Justine beat Serena in straight sets (not sure which round it was). Don't even know why I was dreaming about them playing as neither are my favorite players and couldn't care less about either one winning or losing. Even more strange is that Justine is out with an injury and will not even play this year's US Open.

To be fair, the lead-in events haven't been indicative of players' Slam form in a while. A guess now might be as good as one after Montreal.

Serena.

Serena.

You sure about that?

Then she would've been three matches away from the calendar grand slam. If anything, Sarin winning USO will just make her RG loss even worse.

Well Serena seems to be more beatable here than at AO or Wimbly, the likes of Sharapova or Clijsters could stop her if they play well.

I agree, hard to look past Serena and Kim - possibly Venus. Although you never know, but the "new guard" whoever they are haven't really made too much of an impact at the slams this year.

Between Sharapova and Serena hopefully they won't be in the same part of the draw.

I'd rather have her then someone who loses her brain against Schiavone after beating Henin, Serena and Jankovic respectively.

There might be a surprise. In the last 2 majors, Schiavone, Stosur and Zvonareva were 3 of the 4 finalists

*looks at avatar* why, I do understand why you'd rather have sharapova win the USO.

I see Clijsters potentially winning it for a third time, or if not, eliminating all the real threats(Rena and Venus mainly,) and clearing the way for some spineless scrub to pull off her first GS win. If Venus or Serena can't win I'd hope Dementieva(Is she even playing?)/Jankovich could step up.

Davenport or Hingis, hands down. Utterly dominating performances in WTT...

Maria hasn't beaten a top 40 player all year, a QF appearance would be more than enough

I think Serena is the favourite to win without question. But it is not a foregone conclusion that the winner will be a Williams sisters here like it was at Wimbledon. Serena is the most likely winner but there are several other players who are still in with a modest chance, most notably Clijsters.

Calling players who are trying their best and working hard spineless scrubs points to that being a more apt desciption of the writer.
