*Interesting note*
-Venus has never finished in top three with either Clijsters or Henin.
-Serena has never finished in top three with either Lindsay or Hingis.
(feel free to add your own interesting notes)

It's hard for me to chose between:
1988: S. Graf, M. Navratilova, C. Evert
2003: J. Hennin, K. Clijsters, S. Williams
2002: S. Williams, V. Williams, J. Capriatti
1990: S. Graf, M. Seles, M. Navratilova

I would say 1988's top three is probably the strongest of all top threes, not to mention the year of the Golden Slam. 2003 has Kimmy and Serena in the top so that makes it even more special for me. And 2002 was one of the most exciting years in tennis. As for 1990- I wasn't a huge Seles or Navratilova fan but the rivalries between those three are some of my all time favorite rivalries.

Since 2002 had two of my favorite players (Kimmy and Serena) represented I pick that year by a hair over the others.

I would say 2002, but of the ones you've given us 1988. It's only missing Margaret Court and Helen Wills Moody

I like 2005:
1) Davenport
2) Clijsters
3) Mauresmo
:hearts: Because I love Davenport, of course, and she made 2 finals that year :D. And, Clijsters won her first grand slam of course ;). And I've always liked Mauresmo

Of the ones listed, 2001 ;)

1991: Seles-Graf-Sabatini. They were so close almost anybody could take the number 1 spot. I think Gaby had three chances to jump for number three to number one.

1991: Seles-Graf-Sabatini. They were so close almost anybody could take the number 1 spot. I think Gaby had three chances to jump for number three to number one.My bad, I had that one originally listed Seles-Graf-Sabatin alongside Seles-Graf-Sanchez but I edited both of them out and made it a list of 8 instead of 10. I thought I had too many options and I wasn't sure where to chop. Based on the results so far I maybe could have swapped that option with either 2001 or 1989. They seem to be the two least popular choices.

BTW, I'm not asking which year was the best in terms of how that year played out for your favorites, instead I'm asking which year has the best combination of three players. Best is subjective so however you define best...whether it's most interesting, your favorite- or the three who you find represent the strongest top three.

I picked that one because:
1) The three of them were ridiculously close. A matter of a few points away which added excitement.
2) Seles and Sabatini were both at their peak.
3) Graf was having a mini slump but she still was in fantastic form. (Still don't know if those two mentioned above has to do with it).
4) The three of them had very different games therefore they complemented each other perfectly.
5) And, yeah, my favorite is in there but that doesn't cheapen that fact that it was one of the most exciting periods in tennis. It sold seats and it had the TV audiences wanting for more. :)

1964 1. Court 2. Bueno 3. Turner (3 of my all time faves in the top 3)

1967 1. King 2. Jones 3. Durr (my all time fave Frankie Durr makes the top 3!)

1973 1. Court 2. King 3. Evert (Court comes back as a mum to dominate the tour and new superstar Evert makes her move into the top 3. Goolagong is #4 and Wade #5. What a season of legends!)

1. 1988. Steffi/Navratilova/Chris
Amazing tennis year. Arguably the best 3 tennis players in the history of the game...Steffi winning the Golden slam
2. 1999. Hingis/Davenport/Venus
Probably my favorite year of tennis, 3 incredible champions, with my Fave in 3 slam finals and ending the year as #1...

From the choices listed, I would never have guessed that 2006: J. Henin, M. Sharapova, A. Mauresmo would be leading the poll. Guess I underestimated the Sharapova-Justine-Mauresmo fans.

Ironically those three players would probably rank as my absolute least favorite, "the Axis of Evil", I've dubbed them. The only two missing to make it a complete set would be J. Capriatti and M. Navratilova.

But even the players you dislike the most make things interesting. Tennis wouldn't be half as fun without someone to root against...lol

I was gonna say the voting here is stupid but then I see 'Favourite' rather than 'Best' in the title. So carry on. :snooty:

Sorry, I was being sarcastic...2004 was a really bad year - both davenport and mauresmo did not even reach a final i believe.
