The good thing about the hopman-cup is Kim can play 2 more matches to gain some rythm even if she lost.

I hope she realised time for champagne and party heads ( <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> )is over and she will play better in the next sessions

No need to panick. Last year Kim also had a very tough first match of the new season. She beat Ai Sugiyama in the Hopman Cup 7-6 5-7 6-4 I think it was. She'll definitely be sharper next match. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Well done Belgium though! <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" />

Wow!! The States lost to Italy <img src="eek.gif" border="0">

Good for Belgium <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

With the loss of the US, Belgium has a good chance to become no.1 in their group if they beat France & US.<br />With Lleyton being ill now, they could have a shot at the Hopman Cup Title! <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

If they count the matches won when the score is equal, Belgium has to win against the USA to go to the finals, otherwise the USA and Belgium have both the same amount of matches won, but the USA would go through cos they have beaten Belgium and their sets lost will be probably higher.

But If Italy wins 3-0 against France, there are 3 countries with the same amount of points (when Belgium wins against France 3-0 and loses 1-2 against the USA) and the same amount of matches won. Or they look at games won or at sets won. This way it's a real toss-up

So the only way to be certain is to win against the USA. We gained a little bit with the loss of the USA against Italy but not much. (at least I thought we would have gained more)

The opponent in the final will most likely be Spain since Hewitt has the chicken pox and will probably withdraw or at least not play at his best.

Anyway, GO BELGIUM! <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" /> <img src="graemlins/bounce.gif" border="0" alt="[Bounce]" />

I just hope Lleyton didn't infect Kim with the chicken pox. <img src="redface.gif" border="0">

I said the same thing in the ATP-forum; imagine 16 players not coming to the AO cos they have chicken pox!

Kim already had chicken pox, and I think you can have the disease only once (welke ziekte is dat eigenlijk in 't Vlaams?).

Btw what the hell is that super-tiebreak or what's it called thing?

malaye
Jan 3rd, 2002, 04:43 PM
It's a normal tie break replacing a deciding set. It was used at the US open in the mixed doubles. The idea is to make the matches shorter.

Monica always does well against Justine and Kim. It was a close match. Next time I hope a Belgian can win.

I hope a belgian will win at least one time against Monica!
She seems a real problem for all of them!

At least they got some match rythm
