View Full Version : Cuneo 100K F: (WC) Oprandi d. (8) Parmentier 6-0, 6-2

Jul 4th, 2010, 08:05 PM
The Dropshot Dame's title run at Cuneo with sk0rz:

1R d. Dentoni 6-1, 6-1
2R d. Meusburger 6-3, 6-3
QF d. Rodina 6-0, 6-2
SF d. Dominguez Lino 6-0, 6-1
F d. Parmentier 6-0, 6-2

The Dropshot Dame back in the top 100. She'd probably have spent most of her career in the #80-120 range if she didn't have, let's say, other priorities. And if she wasn't so injury prone, granted.

She's playing better than in the past! If luck will be with her, we will see some special things this year!

13 games lost in 5 matches is just insane  and they were against decent players

Clearly she got all this confidence from beating Heather at Wimbledon.

Also, a big :worship: to Meusburger.

Absolutely incredible run. Winning 100k ITFs isn't easy but winning them in this manner is very rare. It does suggest the kind of form that should have no problem getting a very respectable about of wins on the WTA circuit. And with Romina's ranking now comfortably in the top 100 it won't be long now before we start regularly seeing her name in WTA draws again. Also with a measly about of ranking points to defend over the remainder of the season I can expect Romina to beat a lot closer to a ranking of 50 than a ranking of 100 by the end of the year. Pretty cool. :)

Congratulations Romina

What other 'priorities' did she have?

What other 'priorities' did she have?

Twice already she took a year off (or close to it) from playing pro tennis (July 2004-February 2005; June 2007-August 2008). A nasty forearm injury in Budapest 07 was the catalyst for her second hiatus, granted, but (Italian posters will correct me if this is wrong/unfair) she also clearly wanted to do something else with her life, at least for a while.

is she slimmer now? she used to be in bad shape.

I saw her at both the US open qualies last year and the Wimbledon qualies this year and she is definately in substantially better shape now than she was at the US Open. She certainly isn't slim but she never has been and I don't suppose she ever will be. But my impression is that she is now at a size that is pretty suitable for her playing decent tennis.
