Li was totally outplaying her and then makes 3 doubles at 5 all.

Unbelievable.

Exactly. It makes the whole concept of watching tennis and supporting anyone so futile.

The chokes...

It's Serena Williams, the most dominant player of her generation and a double-digit Slam champion. And they're playing her at Wimbledon on Centre Court with the whole world watching. Li isn't the first player to choke at the thought of taking a set off a Williams Sister and won't be the last.

You saw Stosur make great shots to break Serena in Paris.
Serena is playing as the favorite, she has more pressure on her.

Same as Sharapova double-faulting twice in the tiebreak. Without that she played a better tiebreak.

Not everyone has the fortitude of Pironkova. Makes her win so much more impressive :worship:

That is the benefit of being a top player and having won so much. You build an aura.

Sharapova has benefitted from some chokes too.

didn't serena choke for like 2 years after 06 apart from AO 07? and no one complained

Jun 29th, 2010, 04:06 PM
The reason NA-LI is choking is because she is hitting her second serve like her first.

what choke, it is not as of she was serving for the set, she was holding her own and so was serena in her service games. Choke is when you blow a lead, seh didn't have a lead. except in her own serve

You don't have to blow a lead to choke, it just so happens that those two things often go hand-in-hand.

I think Li got so self satisfied with herself for hitting a few good points and she lost focus and tripped herself up.:o

Serena has also choked the past 2 french opens & lost it mentally at the 09 US Open. So I'm not sure this thread is really accurate

Please...Serena did what she's known to do, and that's win in tough situations. She did what champions and multi slam winners are supposed to do when they aren't playing their best. She did what Kim and Venus should have been able to do, but couldn't...so deal with it ! GOGOG SERENA!!!!

2moretogo
Jun 29th, 2010, 04:44 PM
depends on your definition of out played. When Serena is serving like the way she was, it puts so much added pressure on each and every one of her opponents service games. Li Na had to play a game that she was not comfortable playing, matching Serena power for power and she cracked.

I'm sick of a player playing one bad service game in a tight set and having it called a choke, just because the player you wanted to win didn't. Na was hardly 'outplaying Serena' it was 5-5 :s and Na never looked like she was going to break Serena anyway, not to me.

Could people stop using this dumb argument over and over again ? Na Li was in the match until that 5-5 choke and she was winning most of the rallies in the backcourt and Serena was outplayed off the ground. Serena was just acing or doing serve winners to stay in the match that's just it !

And could you stop using the argument that all Serena was doing was "acing or doing serve winners" ... Sick of people acting like the serve isn't a major part of a player's game. It's the same as saying, all Player A was doing was hitting forehand winners to stay in the match. If she didn't have that forehand, she would've lost. huh??? Let's stop this foolishness

How can you blame them? They know that all SERVrena has to do is bomb aces 24/7. So many cheap points. While they have to actually WORK for points on their serve.

And she does intimidate players with her manly physique, that's for sure.

If someone could come up with a formula to ease away the nerves at critical play points in a tournament, especially a major, just think how the dynamics (ranking, greatness, longevity, wear & tear of rackets, and yes flesh (LOL)of the sport would change ???

Serena got it right.it's the SERVE that's the most important shot in tennis. So people wanna hate on her for perfecting this shot?! Mannn!!

Serena is just making the most of her arsenal, the serve is the best part of her game and its working at this event.
She never gets credit for being smart, she knows a good serve sets the tone of the match...plus she doesnt have to expend a lot of energy running up and down the court.

:eek::eek::haha::haha::haha:

So let me get this right, most players would rather 'work' 20+ rallies every point, over-extend themselves, risk of injury, all for the sake of not winning a point 'cheaply'???:tape: How dumb are you?:help:
