Going with Vera, she's beaten Yanina, Jelena, and Kim. Pironkova has beaten Venus and Bartoli though, I just think Vera has it.

I predicted Tzveti winning yesterday and I was right, I will predict the same again, Tzveti loves playing someone with the type of game Vera has, she will give Vera no rhytmn whatsoever. Tzveti beat her in Moscow 6-0 6-2, she will play with confidence again and she will win. Vera has never made the final, she is the favorite for this match, all pressure is on her and she is not the mentally toughest player out there.

Good luck to both girls. I really like both but especially Tzveti. That girl has so much heart.

By the way Tzveti is 3-0 VS Russians this year at Wimbledon!

To be honest if you match up their respective games, Pironkova should win this match in straight sets.

Bigger first serve.
Flatter hitter.
Low slice to Vera's BH.
Better mover on grass.

Pironkova is one of those girls where, if her game clicks, she's unbelievable. Plus, I still don't trust Zvonareva

Pick em match

oh WTH I'd love a Serena-Pironkova final :hearts: :p

who knows maybe the pressure will get to Zvonareva since she'll be the clear favorite based on rank and past experience  Pironkova beat her once and she could do it again imo.

Come On Pironkova!!!

She can actually win a slam with her almost no unforce error type of game

Regardless, Vera is still a far better player. Her groundstrokes are miles ahead of Pironkova's and she can just do so much more with them, she can come forward and finish points off at the net, she has a far better return (when she isn't playing heavy kick serves, that is ), she still moves well and serves well. You could probably find a trillion more reasons for why Vera's game doesn't match up well with Clijsters as she is fundamentally a lesser version of Clijsters, but she managed to get through that horrible matchup so I more than fancy her chances here.

If this were not grass, I would agree. Zvonareva's game is so weakened on grass in almost every aspect. I've seen Vera on grass more than just this year and she definitely can look awkward on this surface in her shotmaking.

Vera hasn't played this well in ages. I just hope she plays better than she did in her first GS SF. :o

Vera is even capable of losing this one :tape:. Plus Tsveti has the mental edge, she gave her a beatdown in her hometown a few months ago.

last time they met, Vera could hardly move

her movement now is 10 times better now, as she's got confidence in her movement again.
Vera without movement is like a player ranked 200

Vera should win. But a Wimbledon SF is a one time deal for each of them.
Its how they handle the pressure.

I don't usually harp on about the mental aspect of tennis that much but I feel like this match will come down to whether Zvonareva keeps her head together. Hitting through Tsveti so far this event has proved a very tough task even for competent, flat ballstrikers and she's given her opponents next to no rhythm with her wild FH. Zvonareva will probably have to be somewhere near her very best of the ground to deal with this.

It's fair to say Tsveti is nails, and Zvonareva is, well, Zvonareva, and considering this is the biggest match of her career and she's got the pressure of being the overwhelming favourite.......

If Tsveti plays as well as she has in her last two matches she will win. Still a significant "if" but I still feel she has a very good shot at winning this match.

What I find funny is that a lot of the media is lumping vera in with Kvitova and Pironkova as an "unknown." She finished the last 2 years in the top 10 and not that long ago was top 5. This will definitely be a test of Vera's mental strength. Hope Vera from 4th rd USO doesn't show up:unsure:

So happy for both girls to make it this far!

Should be a really good match, which might make up for the surprise factor that thses two are competing for a place in the final.

As a fan of Vera though, I have to go for. Hopefully she can handle the mental side of things and win in a competitive match.

Wouldn't it be Czarina?

Yes, and the word czar (tsar or whatever version is chosen) is of Bulgarian origin, in fact Latin passed through Bulgarian, so I would the ask the restitution to it's original owner :lol:- Tsvetana. Or at least make it tsarina vs, tsaritza

I have no idea who will win, the one that copes with the pressure the best I guess. I like both girls but obviously I will root for Tsveti :bounce:

Alizé Molik
Jul 1st, 2010, 02:47 AM
to be fair, Bepa kept her shit together against Clijsters long enough for Kim to implode, so i think she can do it again against pironkova. That moscow match isn't a true indication of how this match will go, as Vera was not in any sort of form at that stage.

Better match than I expected...
Stats are great even for ATP Wimbledon standards at opening two sets with double more winners than UE's, just 3 break points and about 75% winning points at 1st serve from both :yeah:

Still, pironkova´s hidious forehand and zvonareva´s boring lackluster game makes you wonder how shitty venus and kim were.(and justine losing to kim at that) :o
