Pova played pretty damn good in an exciting match where she easily put away the first set after breaking Jie to 5-4. The second set was far more dramatic with multiple breaks back and forth. The game at 5-4 with Pova serving for the match was a real thriller in which Pova gave up a match point and lost it on the 14th point! Serving for the match for the second time at 6-5 was a routine put away. An all around dramatic match well worth the time and effort.

Ana's good. She'll pull her shit together. A few more wins like the one against Ali will do wonders.

Pova seems to be finding that the square pegs don't fit in the round holes, so her future seems pretty good at the moment.

I got this from the Stanford website. Some quotes from Maria about the match:

“I served really well but returned quite poorly, so there was a little bit of an imbalance. I returned better when I had to, but I had no choice because I couldn’t rely on my serve the whole match. I don’t think I took advantage enough of her second serve. I really could have done a better job of that and will try to do so going forward.”

“I felt a lot better than the last time I played her (at Indian Wells). That was a really scratchy match and I wasn’t feeling that good there. I didn’t want to remember it coming into this one.”

“My mentality now is to keep going, keep fighting and keep playing. Walking away from the match and feeling like I got something out of it; and just improving with every match. That’s really the goal of trying to work yourself toward the U.S. Open.”

When “awhile” is spelled as a single word, it is an adverb meaning “for a time” (“stay awhile”); but when “while” is the object of a prepositional phrase, like “Lend me your monkey wrench for a while” the “while” must be separated from the “a.” (But if the preposition “for” were lacking in this sentence, “awhile” could be used in this way: “Lend me your monkey wrench awhile.”)

As Elena takes on Kimiko, It's time to focus in on Pova's second round match v. Olga Govortsova. I don't remember them having played before. Olga has the distinction of earning 14 first round losses in 2010 tournaments, three second round losses and one third round loss. However, she damn near won the Ponte Vedra Beach tournament, losing to the WOZ in the Final!

She is currently ranked #43 with a 9-18 record with 1275 ranking points. She is coming off three straight first round Tournament losses before exploding into the second round here at Stanford with a devastating win over Alla K 6-1 6-1. She would very much like to add Pova's scalp to Schiavone's which she captured in Dubai.

*Kimiko serving 3-3.*

So Pova must face this revitalized, hungry and nothing-to-lose Olga at 2:30PM (Pacific Time) tomorrow afternoon. A dangerous proposition for our girl. To win, Pova must not rest on her laurels of being a Top 40 Killer but rather focus intently on this second round threat and come out on court with the intention of dominating Olga and making her cry. No quarter can be given and Pova must do all she knows well and some of the things she doesn't know in an astonishing performance. Such is the cost of total Victory!

*Kimiko 6-3 over Elena.*

Go, Pova!

Elena winning a third set is no surprise but Kimiko played fiercely to the bitter end. It was a very good match for both players.

Pova better be thinking only about Olga and how to destroy her fantasies about scalping Pova. If/When she wins that match she can change her focus to Elena...

Really? :O How did admins allow it?

In 2008 one of the webmasters said that the forum was going slower because of the really huge threads, so after that we decided to cut off threads at 5K posts and just make new volumes. So for older threads you'll see that they have a lot more than 5K posts.

I stopped reading it after the first line because I had no idea what the meaning was of the text. :spit:
I actually read it all. You should have seen me, staring at my screen, worrying for Vartan's mental health. And then I read what the text was all about. But really, I think I'd have to read it like a thousand times to actually understand something. :o

Well, well, just look at that! The yum yum was supposed to go out miserably and here she is with a match point; 40-40 now.

C'mon makiri, get it done, book it, record it, make it history!!!

match point Now is the time... and so it was:

Let the word go out that Makiri kicked Peer's ass 4 & 3!!!

This still could turn into the yum yum tournament!!!

Az v Mel next. About even on the yum yum scale as far as I am concerned but I lean towards Mel...

I am still in the haze of euphoria for Makiri's domination of Peer.

100 pages into the Stanford thread and Pova is yet to start her second round match. Pova partisans verge on geing an enthusiastic bunch.

Alright, Mel to serve 0-0. lets see if she can do herself proud. Az seems to be in the mood to kick it, hard and thoroughly, like poor Morita 0 & 2.

Az saves three gamepoints to break Mel for the crucial 1-0 lead. Mel is going to have to work harder for a fairy tale ending here!
