Venus booed today and the crowd wild for Sharapova. And in every slam cheers for the Williams errors.
Do crowds just not like the William sisters anymore?

I thougth it was quite fair for both players

Nope. You'd be hard pushed to find a WS match where the crowd is actually supporting them.

I am not surprised they are going for Maria over Serena

That's why I love Australia the best. They usually give Serena full support. (And the U.S. Open does sometimes too).

The crowd like the underdog, nothing surprising.

So Disrespectful
Jun 28th, 2010, 03:34 PM
The crowd were impressed by Jarka's game. She's charismatic, pretty and a relative unknown at this point, so it's no surprise she drew some support from the crowd. The British crowds still have an immense respect for Venus.

And well, Sharapova is Sharapova.

They always cheer Venus on double faults and UE. They were also heavily favoring Henin in the finals this year.

The tend to get a decent percentage of the cheers in doubles.

As for singles, just win baby!!!

The crowd has been odd, someone like that lone Sunday play crowd (well, on Court 2, anyway).

They always cheer Venus on double faults and UE. They were also heavily favoring Henin in the finals this year.

Do they usually? It was annoying today. As if they didn't know proper tennis etiquette.

First set to Serena. Can't wait to here the crowd moan in disappointment on NBC. hehe

Believe me, when I was at Wimbledon, there was a MASSIVE roar on court five when the Williams sisters doubles match was moved there from court 12 and there was almost a stampede to get a seat there!

Venus and Serena are GODS. It's not so much that they are not cheering for the Sisters but more cheering for a competitive match and a nice story.

At the US Open this year, I was at two Sisters doubles matches at Armstrong which were 100% packed and the crowd cheered the Sisters every chance there was.

It's nothing personal -- except at the French.

They only booed her because she was about 10 minutes late and the crowd had no knowledge of the fact that no one had arrived to escort her to the court.

As for support for Masha, it's not hard to see why. She's been injured or just plain sucked for so long. Serena has been in great form. Maria is standing up to her and playing a really solid match. Who wouldn't support that?

Barely anyone booed her. The people that booed her would've been Groth supporters.

I think they are still fairly loved all around the world. Serena is loved in Australia, Venus not as much as Serena.

But people love the underdog.

1. The crowd want to see a match so they will try and support the underdog to make it three sets.

2. Never underestimate how many Aussies there are at Wimbledon and they are the noisiest supporters so no surprise that the crowd was wild for Jarmila Groth on Court 2.

Nah. The crowds have managed moments of tolerance & appreciation that are gracious. Not to be confused with real support.

Let's be real, by saying a white person would only boo a black person because of their skin colour you've made a racially based remark whilst claiming racism against somebody else.

people in Australia froth over Serena, Venus and Maria and to an extent Ana
because there celebrities, Australians love celebrities.
The only time when they would be cheered against is when there playing an Australian.
Australians do cheer double faults and UFE in tight situations

So you ignore the facts that she was around 10 minutes late to the court and was thus booed by a select few in the crowd who were unaware of the reason why she was late, and I'M ignorant???

They're like the villians of the WTA. Most usually want to see them go down. But thats mainly because they win so much.

What's most amazing is how they continue to win dispite this.

What the officials should do is issue a public apology for the screw up of not coming to get her in a timely manner.
