View Full Version : Best-looking forehand on Tour? Purely aesthetic-wise...

Vanity Bonfire
Jun 28th, 2010, 12:44 PM
I remember just a while back The Dawntreader did a thread about who had the best serve on the tour from an aesthetic POV, and I was wondering about the same topic for the forehand shot.

Who would your picks be for the best-looking forehand on tour-both retired and active?

I'll start by saying that from the past ten years, I think Davenport's forehand technique has been the most pleasant to watch yet of players currently contesting matches regularly, I have to say that I love Sorana Cirstea's forehand technique.

 Maybe I'm bias, but it's a matter of oppinion.

Let me guess. Yours is Serena's? Predictable.

Clijsters, no doubt.

It looks so natural and athletic.

Based on this match right now though

Pre 2009: Ivanovic, Davenport, Clijsters
Post 2009: Clijsters (I really like the circular motion she has), Cirstea, Ivanovic at times

Aesthetic for the result: Serena Williams

Cirstea? Really her technique and follow-through is quite ugly. I wonder how she has any success with the shot off clay.

davenport's forehand was so clean and smooth.

clijsters is just the whole package, she moves so well to it and round it and when she nails it because of the huge swing it looks spectacular.

I think I like it because she has a lot more success with it from the deuce court rather than the ad court.

I like Clijsters', especially when she runs around a short, lobbed return to her BH and slams it away from shoulder height.

Cirstea, as I said is more about clean hitting. I also found Paszek's take back on the FH particularly flairsome. Though, I guess you have to go to some $25K to see it now...

Zvonareva for me, no contest.

that seems an odd choice to me  i always thought zvonareva was a competent player, but that her shots were not particularly nice to look at, mainly because of her way to follow the shots through. it always looks like hard work to me.

i'd say kuzentsova's and ivanovic's (from a few years ago :o)

And for all of her struggles, Ana's FH is still occasionally good looking.

Yes it is completely a matter of opinion. I say ignore that poster. As usual, he has failed to make a contribution to the thread.

What? I guess it's in the eye of the beholder and all that crap but I find her forehand so smooth, effortless and clean - especially in practise, it is almost perfection.

Of course my favourite by a country mile has to be Tatiana's. She was just always perfectly balanced with great footwork, gorgeous stroke production and her timing was so crisp. I just miss watching her hit forehands so much. :tears:
