Customary Yari mini-choke but well done! She could easily make the fourth round with this draw.

Slava has come a long way from when I first saw her.

Watching her today, she is now so relaxed and confident, and so comfortable playing within herself that it is scary. She is taking on the aura of a top player which is great to see. Hercog has a lot of talent and she did show a fair amount of it and she did hit some lovely shots yet she was totally outclassed.

Two great points from Hercog that I will remember, both occured when Slava was at the net. In the 1st point Polona rifled the ball right at Slava who unsuccessfully attempted a quick reflex touch volley. In the 2nd point Polona hit a perfect lob to win the point. But the thing that was so striking about both points was that along Slava was on the losing end of both, each time she broke into a delightful smile as if to say, ah yes, well done, you got me this time, knowing full well that the match was still completely in her grasp.

So wonderful to see Slava so happy and confident on the grass. When I see Slava that confident I feel confident in her too, so I will say right now, I don't think Slava's career has ever looked brighter and more promising than it does right now.
